Chapter#22

| Hailey Pickett |

"Umm why are we at a hospital?"

I had other . .things in my head for where he was taking me at but this. .nope. It didn't pass my mind even once.

The passionate kisses we shared were still making my skin hot and hospital was the last place I wanted to be at.

Ian had parked the car in the crowded lot of the hospital building. He killed the engine and then rubbed his hands together in a bid to warm them up, his breath coming out in puffs.

"Ian?"

His eyes flicked at me. .and he looked hesitant like he wasn't sure how to approach me at why we were a few spots away from the pristine looking hospital.

And my heart suddenly dipped.

"Is-is everyone okay at your side?" I rushed , placing my hand on his arm lightly.

He took my hand in his and kissed the back of it, instantly heating up my cheeks at the sweet gesture.

"Yeah, everyone is fine. You trust me right?" He asked , his eyes earnest.

I nodded saying ,"More than I should."

He smiled . "Then follow me. I want you to meet someone."

He held my hand all the way.

Doctors were walking left and right , worry etched on their faces . Hospitals didn't scare me , its the scent of medicine that can make me empty the contents of my stomach. .there is just something about it. .

Meanwhile, Ian seemed full in charge. Nothing bothered him much. It's like he knew his way around which made me believe he had been here more times than I could say h o s p i t a l.

Each time I saw a frail patient on a wheel chair being pushed around, I gripped at his hand unintentionally. Seeking his warmth.

He would tighten his hold as if assuring me.

A few doctors did greet him but Ian didn't stop. Instead he went straight towards the elevator. It dinged open and we slipped in.

"Thank God , it's empty." Ian said when I stepped in behind him.

He pushed the ⬆️ button and the elevator moved with a dull noise. I was leaning against the wall of steel at the back and he moved towards me , leaning beside me.

"Wanna make out?" He said in a casual voice.

A bubble of laugh filled the space as I glanced at him, he was already looking at me.  . a smile on his handsome face.

"Shouldn't we be respectful of the hospital?" I mused, my heart agreeing with his plan.

He cupped the side of his mouth with his hand and whispered, "We won't make noise."

I pretended to think over his scandalous offer by tapping my index finger on my chin, "Let me ponder. .,"

"Are you serious?" His tone was distress. " I'm dying over here. Have mercy."

I rotated my body at his and I guess he saw the look in my eyes because. .his pupils dilated, the environment turned hot and before I could think much, he grabbed me by the waist! Pulling me in , he rested his forehead against mine. "One minute I want to eat your mouth and the next minute I want to cuddle . .such conflicting emotions." He said it while dragging his lips across my cheek and down to my mouth.

His lips lingered there. .teasing me.

"We can do both."

I had no interest in being a good girl right now, I went in and yeah. .I might have shoved my tongue down his throat a little too eagerly. .

Because he laughed in the middle. .

As the doors opened, he was fixing my hair by brushing the stray strands back from my shoulders and satisfied , he took my hand and we stepped out of the box.

"It's the fifth floor." He said softly as if I should know what being on fifth floor means . .

I didn't.

"Only critical patients live here." He clipped , his voice heavy but I didn't get to probe him because a bald man in his 4o's came to him. He was wearing scrubs and Dr Shaw was written on his breast pocket. He had a file in his hand as he walked toward us.

"Ian Morgan!" He grinned , his hooded blue eyes had a spark of kindness in them as he outstretched his hand and Ian shook it quite enthusiastically. I tried to melt behind him.

"What brings you to our humble abode?"

He was way too cheerful for being a critical patient's doctor. He eyes did fall on me.

"Wanted to see her." Ian smiled , or tried to.

I gripped the back of his shirt, wanting him to know I was here.

The doctor nodded , now solemn.

"Everyday she's making progress. Your visits are helping her out. " He said softly. "She's willing to fight for her life when you talk to her. Patients should feel wanted , it helps them fight back." He advised, his eyes finding me again. "Is that your girlfriend?"

Ian glanced at me. "Yeah , the one and only. Hailey Pickett."

I had no idea why I suddenly felt shy around the man when I just kissed in the elevator like a maniac. "Hey."

"Hey back." He grinned , that smashing toothpaste grin. He checked his wrist watch and frowned. "Damn , I'm getting late. See you around."

Ian nodded and he was off on his way, his footsteps echoing in the empty corridor.

"Who was he talking about?" I asked Ian , worry pooling in the pit of my stomach.

"You'll see." His cryptic reply really did nothing to appease the tension.

The corridor had doors on either side , an eerie silence filled me up and slowly , it was getting on my nerves.

Ian kept walking with me behind and then he stopped by a shut door. Taking a deep breath , he cast me a look over his shoulder and then back at the door . .

Lifting his hand, he pushed the door all way back.

As I stepped in , my eyes fell on to the bed . .the person on the bed . .and the sky fell over my head.
