Ch. 22 - Matchmaker, Matchmaker

**Alright, I got the wifi issues figured out. For all those who wished me luck on my finals, thank you! I took my final exam in pharmacology this morning. I'm pretty sure I ended the semester with a 4.0. I think I might update again tonight...keep on the lookout!**

Roxie's POV

After a thorough gossip session in which Khloe told us all about her night with Xander - a night in which Ivy and I were both incredibly jealous over - the three of us spent the rest of the day pouring over baby books. As cliche as the 'what to expect when you're expecting' book was, it was actually incredibly helpful. Despite being completely unprepared for both pregnancies, I was calm and level-headed this time. I wasn't alone. I had people who truly loved and cared about me surrounding not only me but also my baby. That was something I was more than sure of.

I peered over the chapter I'd been flipping through when I caught sight of Ivy's horrified face as she intently read a book on tips and tricks for successful lactation and breastfeeding.

"What's that face for?" I asked with a snicker.

"Your kid's teeth are going to start coming in around six months and you'll still have to breastfeed it! It's talking about all the things you can do to soothe your nipples after a feeding session and the best natural solutions for if and when your kid bites your nips while feeding," she explained, the look on her face not budging one bit. Khloe and I chuckled much to Ivy's dismay.

"Why are you laughing? You're the one who's going to have her breasts used as chew toys!" she exclaimed. I just shrugged in reply.

"That's life. Unless I'm physically unable to breastfeed, I'm going to do it. This book says it's one of the best ways to form a deep bond with your child. And there's been a correlation shown between children that aren't breastfed and a higher risk of obesity later on in life."

"Alright, enough reading," Khloe demanded, snatching Ivy and I's books out of our hands. "It's time for the most fun part," she stated with a devious smile.

"And what's that?" I asked apprehensively.

"Online shopping."

"I'll grab my laptop!" I rushed out excitedly before dashing off.

An hour later and we were all still crammed next to one another staring at my screen as I scrolled through countless pages of baby stuff. Cribs, rockers, high chairs, car seats.

"This is making me want a baby of my own..." Ivy pouted, a small frown pulling at the edges of her lips.

"Just remember your nipples as chew toys and I'm sure the thought will go 'poof'," Khloe joked.

"No, I'm serious," Ivy stated, not a single trace of humor in her voice as she leaned away from the laptop and looked us dead in the eyes. Khloe and I exchanged a look of worry before focusing on her.

"You both have someone. Khloe you have Xander and Roxie you have this baby now. I'm the only one who doesn't have someone," she murmured, looking away thoughtfully.

"Ivy, you hate going on dates. It's kind of impossible to have someone when you don't put yourself out there." Khloe remarked.

"That's because men are big fat idiots most of the time," she stated with a roll of her eyes. "Why is it so hard to find a good man who's ambitious, good-looking, smart, funny, and a gentleman outside of the bedroom," she asked rhetorically. Khloe and I giggled at the last part before becoming serious once again.

"Because the men who are ambitious, good-looking, smart, funny, and freaks in bed are usually total assholes. Case and point, Jonathan," I remarked to which Khloe nodded in agreement.

"You'd think I'd have met my dream guy at the club by now. I mean, you have to be a decent dude to get a membership. It just seems like I'm never going to find someone," she murmured. Just then, my phone started ringing on the coffee table. Thinking it was going to be Jedrek, I lunged for it, but Ivy beat me to it.

"Why is Ezekiel calling you? Didn't you tell him you quit your job at Rouge?" she asked. I grabbed the phone from her with furrowed brows before answering the call.

"Hello?"

"Roxie, I'm glad you answered. I know you won't be at Rouge tonight seeing as you don't work there anymore, but, to be honest, you've become one of my closest friends and I need some advice. Are you free for lunch today?" His words caught me way off guard.

"Uh, yeah. Where should I meet you?" I questioned.

"Just come by my office. I'll have something catered in if that's alright with you."

"Wait, at your office? It's Sunday?" I questioned.

"Business doesn't stop on the weekends, Roxie. You know this." I nodded until I realized he couldn't see me.

"Okay, yeah, that's fine. I'll meet you around one?"

"Sounds perfect. I'll send my town car to get you. See you then, Roxie." Before I could even argue my own ability to drive, he'd ended the call.

"What was that all about?" Khloe asked.

"I don't know, honestly. I told you we became good friends towards the end. He wants me to swing by his office for lunch and give him some advice about something," I explained.

"Hm. Interesting," Khloe commented off-handedly before going back to scrolling through the baby products. "I think you should go with a white crib and changing table set. White always brightens up a room. Also, will you be finding out the gender?" I just laughed and shrugged once again.

"To be honest, I don't really want to make any firm decisions right now. I don't want to jinx anything."

**

By the time one rolled around, and the town car driver was calling me to notify me of his arrival, I was starving and incredibly curious as to what Ezekiel could possibly need my advice on. The ride to Ezekiel's office was longer than I expected, but his building was what caught me off guard. My jaw dropped causing the driver to laugh quietly in the front seat.

"That's the same reaction I had when I saw this place for the first time, too. Just wait until you see the inside. It's even more incredible," he assured me.

"Job security I guess," I commented, causing him to laugh once again.

"That's one way of putting it. Have a good afternoon, Miss Roxanne. Just have Ezekiel call whenever you're ready to go." I nodded and said a quick thank you before exiting and making my way towards the stunning building.

The man was right. The inside was unbelievable. I was in a state of utter awe the entire journey to Ezekiel's floor - one which I had to check the office index on the wall for since he'd forgotten to give me that detail. The full glass elevator allowed me to survey every floor for a microscopic second as I passed it, but that was long enough to realize why Ezekiel was the best in the business.

"Ma'am, did you mean to get off here?" came a voice that caught me off guard. I looked at the man in confusion, completely caught off guard.

"I'm going down. Is this your stop?" the guy asked while jutting a finger behind him. I snapped out of my delirious state before nodding and mumbling a quick thank you.

"Welcome to Davis and Sons. How can I help you?" A friendly-looking woman asked right as I exited the elevator. Apparently Ezekiel isn't the only one who doesn't know the definition of a weekend I thought to myself as I returned her smile.

"Hi. I'm here to have lunch with Ezekiel. Where would his office be?"

"Mr. Davis's office is straight down this hall here on the left-hand side. Can't miss it," she answered while pointing to my right.

I followed her directions until I came to a room with glass walls, Ezekiel was inside sitting behind a large desk, hunched over a bunch of different papers. I knocked before entering.

"Shit, is it one already?" he asked before checking his watch.

"Yep. So, what's on the menu?" I asked, dropping my purse onto the ground and slumping down into one of the chairs in front of his desk.

"I was thinking that Chinese place we love," he commented. The second he said the words, it made my stomach churn.

"What's that face for?" he asked with a soft chuckle, making me realize my nose was completely scrunched up in disgust.

"That doesn't sound good at all. Next option."

"We could get warm sandwiches from the hoagie shop down the street. They're amazing." I pondered the thought for a few seconds before deciding it sounded good.

"Alright, I'm good with that. Now you call and order and when you're done starting spilling." I demanded.

"Spilling?" he asked.

"Yeah, spilling. What's the purpose of this lunch?" I explained.

"Oh, yes. Give me one second," he said before picking up his desk phone and placing our order. He didn't even ask me what I wanted, he already knew what I'd like.

"You know, it's incredible how we went from you being handsy as hell and making strong passes at me to asking for my friendly advice and knowing my lunch order," I teased. His cheeks tinted pink from my words.

"It's funny. I always thought men and women couldn't be friends without thinking of each other sexually at some point," he stated.

"And?" I asked.

"I still think that, and I still know I'm right, however, I always thought after you thought of them sexually that was it. End of friendship."

"And you were wrong," I said in a sing-song voice, knowing how much he hates being told that.

"Yes, I was wrong," he grunted. "Now, stop bringing up the beginning of our relationship. It makes me uncomfortable."

"Why's that?" I asked with a smirk.

"Because it's like thinking about making a pass at my own sister," he cringed. I laughed at the uncomfortable look on his face.

"Yet seeing me in lingerie every night I would come to work isn't weird?" I asked.

"Oh, it was, but there really wasn't much I could do about your work uniform. Most of the time I just wouldn't look below your neck," he confessed. I threw my head back and laughed. "However, I didn't ask you to come here to discuss the weird turn of events our relationship took."

"Okay, so what did you invite me here for?" I prompted, trying to get the truth out of him.

"The night my company and Chamberlain Brothers LLC. went out to celebrate our partnership, I got pretty fucked up. So did Jedrek. We ended up having a heart to heart that night that really changed my perspective on everything."

"And what was it that he said...?" I asked skeptically.

"We were talking about what really matters in life. It started because I asked him where his wedding band was-"

"He wasn't wearing it?" I cut him off.

"No. I haven't even seen him in it once and I've been around him quite a bit since the contract was signed. It piqued my curiosity, so I asked about it. One thing led to another and we started talking about our goals and dreams - where we wanted to see ourselves in ten years."

"And where's that?" I questioned, my heart pounding in my chest.

"I know what you actually want to hear right now, but his story isn't mine to tell," he replied, "however, I want to see myself with a wife and kids or at least a baby on the way. He made me realize that I could work my entire life and have nothing to show for it. Sure I have these beautiful buildings and my name on the outside, but who will really remember me?" he pondered, a pensive look on his face.

"That makes sense. So, now what?"

"I need you to help me find the right woman. I'm ready to get married."

"I'm sorry, Chicago's biggest playboy says what now?"
