Chapter Four
It was him. You knew it. You could tell just by the outline of the looming figure in your dorm room window. But he was too late. You were already walking away, and he wouldn't be able to find you. He wouldn't be able to get in the club, not with Ryan there. Why did they hate each other so much, you wondered.
"Come on Jess," you said, looping your arm with hers. You were trying to act calm and cheery now that the worst was over. "So is Ryan performing tonight?"
"No," Jess sighed, "he's still on trash duty."
You nodded and followed her along, your haste allowing you to walk in your heels without falling. Maybe tonight wouldn't be so bad, you thought. The city was bustling with life and light and it made you feel a little bit better.
You let out a relieved sigh as you passed the alleyway he was in earlier. Everything was going to be okay, you thought.
Once the club was in view Jess ran ahead, seeing Ryan waiting for her at the door, leaving you behind. Of course your feet chose then to forget how to walk, and you slipped on a crack in the sidewalk.
Suddenly, an arm grabbed you and pulled you into the alleyway. As the clubs front entrance disappeared from view you could see the surprised look on Ryan's face.
You spun around quickly to see who had grabbed your arm and saved you from the fall, but you nearly collapsed at who you saw. It was him, Brendon. You tried to get away, back to Jess and Ryan, but his grip on your arm was tight.
"I thought you were going to wait for me," he said, a bit angered with you. "I told you I was–"
"Let go of me!" You yelled, trying to pull his hand off your arm. His grip was tight and digging into your arm as Ryan's had.
"What's going on!?" Someone yelled, appearing from the clubs side door. It was Ryan. "Brendon!?"
You looked towards Ryan worriedly. His face was full of fury and you swore you could see his eyes flash red, but it must have been the club lights.
"You will address me as–"
"I will not address you as anything!" Ryan spat, leaping down the single step. "You are worthless to me. Let the girl go!"
Brendon seemed taken aback by Ryan's lashing out and you took his moment of shock to release yourself from his grip, but then Ryan grabbed you, his own hand tightening on your arm. You felt like your wrist would snap from the weight.
"Ryan," Brendon said, almost growling. You thought you saw his eyes flash red too. "She is not yours. She is my ma–"
"She isn't yours either!" Ryan yelled, tugging you forward as he planted a blow on Brendon's cheek. You didn't know who to trust. Both of these men clearly had serious issues, especially with one another.
You tried to tug yourself away, but instead Ryan pulled you forward a little too fast, and you fell into Brendon's line of fire. With a swift blow you had been knocked from Ryan's grasp and sent tumbling towards the wall. Your head rammed against the bricks, knocking you out cold.

You felt soft sheets beneath you, they felt like silk. You tangled your fingers in them, trying to gain a grip one what was going on. Wait a minute, you thought. You didn't have silk sheets.
Your eyes flew open suddenly and you were blinded with light. You blinked rapidly, trying to get your eyes to adjust. You had to figure out where you were. Once your eyes finally adjusted you looked around the room you were in. It was smaller than your dorm room and much older too. It was decorated with an old four post bed and red carpets and drapes. It wasn't modern at all to say the least.
Finally finding the courage to leave the bed you pushed yourself off and touched your feet to the stone floor. It was freezing. To be honest, the entire room was freezing, you thought.
As you wrapped your arms around yourself you noticed your arm had been wrapped in a bandage where both Brendon and Ryan had grabbed you. And where Brendon had bitten you.
"Oh god, I have to get out of here," you whispered to yourself, as you hugged yourself from the cold.
Tiptoeing towards the door, you turned the knob slowly and it creaked loudly as you opened it. No longer able to take the sound, you slid through the small gap you had made and left the door open, not wanting to make another sound.
The hallway beyond was decorated in the same way as the bedroom. Long carpets adorned the floor and the lights hung on the walls instead of the ceiling. It was almost as if it was a castle, you thought.
You finally reached the stairwell at the end of the hall and you walked down the dark stairs, using the wall to brace yourself. Light reached you again as you made it to the bottom. Another hallway lay beyond.
Suddenly you heard voices behind you and your heart raced. You didn't know which way to go. You could go in one of the rooms to hide or you could run down the hall hoping there was salvation at the other end. You decided on the second choice. Throwing yourself forward you sped down the hall, hoping the gaping room at the end had a door to the outside world.
"Hey! Intruder!" Someone from behind you yelled.
You looked back to see a man chasing you from the end of the hall. You didn't stop to look, so when you continued running you ran right into someone else.
The impact had knocked you onto the floor. The man suddenly wrapped his hand around your throat and pulled you towards him. The man from the end of the hall was here now too. They both wore the same uniform. They must have been guards, you thought.
"S-Stop," You begged, clawing at the hands around your throat.
"Didn't the King say we could eat intruders?" The one man asked.
"E-Eat!?" You gasped, as his grip tightened around your neck. "Pl-Please just l-let me–"
The other man slapped you across the face, silencing the words in your throat. You were completely stunned by the action. His grip began to loosen, but as soon as it had, you were slammed into the wall. Your memories flashed from when Brendon had thrown you into the wall. Had he brought you here, you wondered, and how long ago was that?
"He did day that," the man answered the other, a sharp grin on his face. "Bonne appetite!"
"N-No!" You choked out. "Please don't t–"
You were silenced when you felt him bite into your neck and the other bite into your wrist. A sharp scream left your throat and tears poured from your eyes. It was painful. Your scream died in your throat when you felt him dig deeper into your neck.
This can't be happening, you screamed in your head. Vampires aren't real, you thought. This isn't possible. But it was happening. You were being drained of your blood. It was painful and it was slow. Your brain began to get foggy and the edges of your vision blurred.
"S-S-Stop," You whispered, you could barely talk. Your throat was screaming at you in agony.
The tears from your eyes blurred your vision further and you let out a sharp cry as you felt the mans teeth being torn from your wrist. A loud growl met your ears and suddenly the other man was torn from your neck. They had been the only things holding you up as you lost so much blood and you collapsed against the wall.
"What did you do!?" Someone roared. You tried to wipe your eyes of your tears but they were still flowing freely. "You idiots! She is my mate!"
You realized now that it was Brendon screaming. You recognized his angered voice and his dark figure in your blurred gaze.
"Get back to your posts and stay away from her. Do not touch her ever again!" He growled, shoving one of them away from him. Seeing his attention would turn back toward you, you slowly tried to move, but your body ached and didn't listen. You barely managed a crab walk when Brendon turned and stalked towards you.
S-Stop," you said through tears, "don't t-touch me!" You were terrified of them and you were terrified of him. He was just like them, a vampire.
"Y/N," he spoke, his voice was suddenly soft as he crept towards you. "I'm not going to hurt you."
"N-No, I can't trust y-you," you cried, trying to inch away. You were so tired and your body wasn't cooperating. "You bit me!"
"Y/N, I promise, you can trust me," he said, grabbing you by your arms again. You closed your eyes waiting for him to kill you, but instead you felt him wrap his arms around you and lift you up. He was carrying you in his arms like a baby.
"I-I can't," you cried. "Please just let me go."
You felt him lift your arm to his mouth and you shivered feeling his breath on your skin. He inhaled deeply and then you felt him lick your arm. It didn't hurt like you expected it too. It almost felt good.
"Yes, you can," he said, tilting your head so he could lick your neck. You gasped as his tongue licked against your open wound and your eyes flew open for a second. You swore you could hear him chuckle as your eyes closed again. "Because you're my mate."
