A Myriad of Beads

I don't have a formal catalogue up at this point, but I'm posting this chapter mainly for the author's benefit right now.

I wanted to showcase a special project I'd been wanting to get done for some time now: a triple-wrap bracelet using the technique taught in this tutorial from Spoilt Rotten Beads.

The special twist here is the color scheme; I picked it out specifically to match the cover for a wonderful book by fellow NBR (Next Big Recognition) member FayLaneThe Myriad Chronicles: Book One, The Reader.

The current cover has mainly  blue & green elements (not counting the cover model's fiery hair...), but the previous one accompanied the green with red instead:

That previous cover was the one in place when I first came up with idea to make this bracelet, so that's the color palette I've used for it. And this is the result!

I chose to use green as the base color and angled red stripes to accent it, since I didn't want the latter color to overwhelm the former. I also made the stripes wider in the center of the piece than they are towards the ends.

And I've found that the tutorial was right about its necklace potential. Due to the style of it, the bracelet doesn't really lie flat if you try to wear it as a regular necklace. But rather than fighting that factor, you can capitalize on it by gently twisting the item before you put it on and secure the clasp.

Worn like this, I find that it looks a bit like the thick multi-stranded necklaces that people make with smaller beads.

It was difficult capturing the subtle touches of gold & purple that are in the red beads—which I felt tied in nicely with the cover's accent colors & general magical/whimsical feel—but hopefully the close-up shots have somewhat conveyed those details.

In any case I hope you all have enjoyed the pictures, and please make sure to have a gander at Fay's book if you're into fantasy & tales of adventure! As a writer she has a great flair for description, and Myriad contains entertaining characters and a story that combines humor & fun with depth, gravity, and some touches of darkness.

Now, I really oughta get some sleep, especially with NBR assignments due once more, so...ciao!
