CHAPTER FOUR
"Your not to far gone"
─
Nikolas Blackwell let's out a awfully tired sigh as he awaits on his latest date. One of the young Blackwell's colleagues had arranged an blind date for the young man but as the hours went by it became clear that he was being stood up..once again. A frown arises in the blue eyed boy's face just as he rises up from his table but as he goes to turn into the aisle..he suddenly knocks right into one of the waitresses who takes a hard fall..her tray filled with glass cups comes crashing down also with her. The brunette groans with utter frustration..Harper's bright green eyes now sending the young man a sharp glare. "I'm so sorry about that..I clearly wasn't looking" Nikolas stammered just as he kneels down and picks up the many broken shards of glass. Harper scoffs, "Yeah..you clearly weren't" She retorted.
With the both of them now on the floor..Nikolas slowly looked back up at the brunette as he gets a good look of the young Winchester. There was no doubt that the young woman was utterly beautiful..she had such a intriguing allure as if she was able to put anyone under a spell with her stunning emerald green eyes. "Once again I'm extremely sorry." The Blackwell raises a brow, "Are you alright?" Nikolas asks the brunette. But before the young woman could say anything else..Nikolas eyes widen with surprise as he catches an glimpse of blood dripping from Harper's arm.
"Your bleeding" The Blackwell pointed out with concern.
The green eyed girl sighs, "It's fine..it barely hurts" Harper reasoned, just as the young man helped her back onto her feet.
Nikolas shrugs, "If you want I can take a look at it" The blue eyed boy suggested.
Harper glances up towards the young Blackwell..her eyes now meeting his bright gaze. Harper shook her head with reluctance, "It's fine..I'll just stick a bandage on it" The brunette reassured the young man. Such a drawing..kind presence hovered around the Blackwell as the green eyed girl stood across from him.
Nikolas chuckled, "A bandage?" He questioned. "You'll probably need a stitch or two..I'm a doctor, I deal with these sorts things."
"Fine..check it out" Harper says as she raises up her injured arm.
The brown haired boy slowly takes ahold of the girl's arm with a delicate manner, "I'm Nikolas..by the way" The Blackwell expresses with an soft smile..now looking up at her.
"I'm Harper" She replies with a slight smirk.
─
It's an bright morning in the middle of nowhere as Harper Winchester and her elder brother Dean sit across from each other at a diner. It had been a couple of days since the three siblings returned from their previous hunt, and now they were all searching for the next possible signs that could lead to their father's return. Harper let's out a heavy sigh filled with utter frustration as she looked back up from her plate of waffles..and now towards a silent Dean who sat right across from her. "You gotta talk to me Dean..you can't stay mad forever" Harper remarked. But the brunette's eldest brother stays utterly silent as he continues to circle around different parts of his newspaper.
"Can I get you anything else?" A blonde waitress asks the green eyed man. Dean looks back up with his blue pen pressed against his lips..now grinning with utter content.
Sam sighed, "Just the check please" The hazel eyed boy chimed while he made his way back to the table.
The blonde woman smiled, "Okay." The waitress turns to leave the three siblings but her bright blue eyes linger on the eldest Winchester as she heads back towards the kitchen. Dean let's out a defeated sigh..just as his head hits the table.
Harper scoffs with utter annoyance, "You were totally gonna reply to her but still choose to ignore your only sister" The green eyed Winchester snapped..now taking another bite of her waffle. Ever since the brunette finally broke the news of her engagement to her brothers..Dean hadn't taken it so well as her younger brother Sam did. The green eyed girl didn't know what her older brother was so pissed about..this engagement was her chance at living the life she always dreamed of with the man she truly loved.
"You know Sammy, we are allowed to have fun once in a while" Dean expressed, now looking back up. "That over there..is called fun" He says
as his eyes landed on the blonde waitress from afar.
Both Sam and Harper roll their eyes at their older brother while Dean slides a newspaper in front of the hazel eyed boy. "Here, take a look at this..I think I got one" He informs his younger brother. From across the booth..Harper glances down at the newspaper that sits right in front of her younger brother. "Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin..last week, Sophie Carlton age eighteen." The brunette catches an glimpse of the young girl's photograph on the front page. "She walks into the lake and doesn't walk out" Dean chimed. "Sophie Carlton is the third lake manitoc drowning this year..None of the other bodies were found, either."
Harper frowned as she swiped the newspaper from her brother's reach, "It says here that they had a funeral two days ago" The brunette read out loud.
"A funeral?" Sam inquires.
Dean nods, "Yeah..they buried an empty coffin for closure or whatever."
The brown haired boy raises a brow, "Closure? What closure?" Sam questions with a scoff. Harper glances over at Sam as she then looked in-between the two winchester brothers. "People just don't disappear, Dean." Sam sighed, "Other people just stop looking for them" The young man deadpanned.
The green eyed man looked back up from his plate, "Something you want to say to me?" Dean asks.
"The trail for dad..it's getting colder every day." Harper purses her lips with utter displeasure just as the thought of her missing father crossed her mind..days and weeks of hard searching for the man and it was like he'd disappeared from the face of the earth.
Dean scoffed, "Exactly then what are we supposed to do?" The elder winchester added.
"I don't know..anything" Sam replied.
Harper sighed, "He's right..Dean."
The blonde haired man's jaw clenched with great disgust, "You know what..I'm sick and tired of this attitude" Dean says harshly. "You guys don't think I want to find dad as much as you do?" He spat.
The green eyed girl crosses her arms just as she leaned forward in her seat. "We know you do but-" Suddenly dean cuts his sister off and sends both of his younger siblings an ice cold stare. "I'm the one that's been with him every single day for the past two years while Sam's been off at college and you with that doctor of yours" Dean glowered loudly. "We will find dad but until then we're gonna kill everything bad between here and there, okay?" The green eyed man ranted.
The young brunette smirked wickedly, "I guess you being this pissed got you to finally say something to me." Dean rolled his eyes at his sister but his attention quickly turns right back over at the beautiful waitress as she makes her way by. Sam taps on the newspaper in attempts to gain his brother's attention, "All right..Lake Manitoc" The young boy said with a sigh. Both Harper and Sam glance in-between the blonde and their now distracted brother.
The brunette scoffs, "Hey Dean..eyes over here" Harper retorts.
"Huh?" Dean asks, utterly confused.
"How far is Lake Manitoc?"
─
Just right after visiting the Carlton family and their residence..Harper Winchester and her two brothers nonchalantly step right into the town's police station..in search for any answers. The brunette makes her way towards the station's front wooden desk with utter disregard of her two brothers who stand right behind her as she confidently takes the lead. "Hello..I'm Harper Blackwell from the wildlife service and I'd like to speak with the sheriff about the recent incidents that have occurred in town" The green eyed girl announced proudly. An older man from afar in a police uniform steps forward..as his eyes now burn with utter disbelief. "Where did you say you were from?" The man questioned.
Dean steps besides his sister, "The three of us are from the wildlife service" he tells the man.
Sam shrugs nonchalantly, "Could you point us to where the sheriff is?" The young Winchester asks.
The grey haired man slowly nodded, "Well..your speaking to him." He then starts to make his way over to the three hunters, "Now..I'm sorry but why does the wildlife service care about an accidental drowning?" The sheriff asks while he lets them in through the small wooden gate.
The brown haired boy sighed, "You sure it's accidental?" Sam inquired.
"Will Carlton saw something grab his sister" the female huntress added. Harper, Sam, and Dean now walk through the police station alongside the sheriff as the man leads the Winchesters over into his office.
"Like what?" The Sheriff muttered in a annoyed tone. Harper and her brothers take a seat in the leather black chairs just as the sheriff also takes his seat right behind his wooden desk. "There are no indigenous carnivores in that lake..there's nothing even big enough to pull down a person" the sheriff remarked. "Unless it was the Loch Ness monster."
Dean chuckles, "Yeah..right" He says in a humorous tone.
The Sheriff sighed heavily, "Will Carlton was traumatized and sometimes the mind plays tricks." A saddened expression arises in the man's voice, "We dragged that entire lake and even ran a sonar sweep just to make sure but there ended up being nothing down there" The Devins recalled.
Harper leans forward in her seat..the huntress's concerned gaze now staring right at the middle aged man. "This is a very strange case since it's the third missing body this year" The brunette added with reason.
The sheriff slowly nodded, " I know" he says lowly. "These are people from my town..people who I care about" Jake Devins expressed.
Dean nods, "We know" he says softly.
The sheriff sighed heavily, "Anyway..all this...it won't be a problem much longer" The elder man remarked.
"What do you mean?"
Jake's eyes narrowed just as he slightly leaned forward in his chair with utter suspicion..the elder man didn't know what it was but he had an bad feeling about them. "Well..the dam of course" The sheriff informs the three Winchesters.
The green eyed man quickly plays it off as he sits back in the leather chair. "Of course the dam..it's uh..it sprung a leak" Dean said in a collected manner. "It's falling apart" Jake reveals. "And the feds won't give us the grant to repair it, so they've opened the spillway" The Sheriff explained. "In another six months..there won't be much of a lake..there won't be much of a town either but as federal wildlife you already knew that" The Devins pointed out with a stern expression.
Harper smiles softly, "Your exactly right sheriff...more than anything our department wants these drownings to be over with since we'll all be past this soon enough" The brunette acknowledges in a professional manner. Sam who's sitting right besides his older sister sends the young girl an approving smile.
Suddenly there's a knock at the sheriffs office door..causing the four to turn their attention towards a young woman who stands at the threshold. "Sorry, am I interrupting?" The brown eyed woman asks sheepishly. "I can come back later." The three Winchester and including the sheriff all rise to their feet just as the young woman steps into the room. Jake smiles softly, "Ma'am..Gentlemen..this is my daughter" The Devins commented.
Dean smiled flirtatiously at the young woman, "It's a pleasure to meet you..I'm Dean" The blonde haired man announced as he shakes the sheriff's daughter's hand. The green eyed Winchester steps forward also and sends the young woman a warm hearted smile. "And I'm Harper Blackwell" The young brunette chirped.
The young woman a gave half-smile, "It's nice to meet you guys..I'm Andrea Bar."
"They're from the wildlife service about the lake" The Sheriff says sadly. A stunned expression arises in the woman's face as she looked in-between the siblings, "Oh" Andrea muttered with a hint of trouble in her voice. Unhesitatingly Harper took note of the woman's unusual reaction just as mere coincidence another new face comes into her view..it's a little boy peering out from behind Andrea.
Harper's eyes lit up at the sight of the young child, "Oh..hello! What's your name?" She exclaimed while she was looking down at the child. For only a mere second..the young boy met Harper Winchester's bright gaze but he quickly rushes out of the sheriff's office without saying a single word to anyone as if he was almost afraid of them. Andrea sighed heavily as she too left the room and towards her silent son.
"His name is Lucas" The Sheriff shared softly.
The three siblings turned back around towards the man with soft silent expressions. "Is he alright?" The hazel eyed boy asks.
Jake swallows thickly, "My grandson's been through a lot..we all have" The Devins says sadly. He then begins to make his way back over to the front door of his office just as he leads the three siblings out, "Well..if there's anything else I can do for you..please let me know."
Harper, Sam, and Dean start to make their way through the police station but without any warning..Dean stops in the middle of the walkway as he looks back over at the sheriff and his daughter. "You know..now that you mentioned it, could you point us in the direction of a reasonably priced motel?" Dean inquired. Harper shoots her older brother a annoyed glare while she and Sam spectate their brother's awful flirting skills.
Andrea smiled softly and steps towards the siblings, "There's one called Lakefront Motel..go around the corner and it's two blocks up." The blonde haired man purses his lips with pure cluelessness..pretending to have zero clue where the motel was. "Would you mind showing us?" Dean asks the young mother.
Andrea raises her brow, "You want me to walk you two blocks?" She says with a chuckle.
"Not if it's any trouble."
"I'm headed that way anyway." Andrea turns back to her father, "I'll be back to pick up Lucas at 3:00" She reminds him with a bright grin. The young mother then softly kisses her son on the head while the little boy continues to draw with his crayons. Harper glances over at the sheriff Devins one last time Before she makes her way out of the police station. "Thanks again for your help" The green eyed girl chimed with a friendly departing wave.
Just a few minutes later..Harper and her brothers casually walk besides Andrea Bar as they follow the young woman throughout the block. The young winchester moves besides the sheriff's daughter while her brothers quietly now follow from behind. "Your son is adorable..by the way" Harper complimented the young women with an kind expression. Andrea slowly nodded, "Thanks" The brunette chimed happily. "I saw that bright look you had on your face when Lucas came into the room..do you have kids?" The young mother asks. The green eyed girl softly laughed at the mention of her having children..it wasn't like harper didn't like kids..it was more of a fear of hers..the young huntress didn't know if she'd be a good mother at all..when she barely had one from the start. "Oh god no..kids are definitely not in my book" Harper muttered.
Dean glances over at the mother with a smirk, "Kids are the best..I love them."
The group now crosses the street and makes their way towards the motel where they stop right in front of the welcome sign. "There it is, like i said..two blocks" Andrea deadpanned.
"Thanks."
The brunette turns to Dean, "Must be hard with your sense of direction" Andrea pointed out sadly with a fake frown. The blonde haired man slowly nodded with his signature cocky grin just as the woman continued speaking. "Never being able to find your way to a..decent pickup line" The young mother retorted and swiftly turned to leave the three siblings.
Harper and Sam suddenly both burst out laughing while an utterly embarrassed Dean just stands there in shock. "Enjoy your stay!" Andrea yells out from afar into the street.
"Kids are the best?" Sam questioned. "You don't even like kids."
Dean turns to his brother and sister, "I love kids" He countered.
The hazel eyed boy sighed, "Name three children that you even know" Sam questions his older brother. Dean purses his lips and takes a moment to really think about it but soon enough..he just blankly stares at his younger siblings who seemingly walk away from the young man and towards the motel.
The green eyed man scratches his head, "I'm thinking" Dean shouted back to them.
