Chapter Twenty Three

Jenna peeled the iron away from Jonathan's arm with a few hanging pieces of his flesh attached to it. She ignored the cry of pain from her husband, who was breaking out in thick layers of sweat, and painfully jerking. She leaned her head back, as a wave of pleasure and relief wash over her body. Jenna straightened her back, and brought her darkened gaze on the burnt part of his arm that had the branding of the triangular shape of the iron.
"Please, stop this," he pleaded, his face red and eyes brimmed with tears. "It hurts, please. Jenna, please stop this. This isn't you."
Jenna gasped dramatically, and smiled. "It hurts, Jonathan? It does? Don't be such a hypocrite right now. Do you know how hurt I am because you cheated on me?! Do you?"
She brought the iron close to his face which made him flinch, and tilt his head away from hot electrical object.
"We got married because we loved each other. We got together in the presence of God, Jonny. You dare not break the rules of marriage, you don't!" Jenna cried out, and dropped the iron then began to pace around.
"Jenna, we don't have to be like this, please. Let's put all these behind us and live our lives. You don't need this, you only need help right now," Jonathan said out in exhaustion.
Jenna scoffed. "Help? I need help? No! All I need is you," she said in a broken voice then knelt at his feet. "You're the help I need. You're my antidote, Jonathan. But until you tell me why you slept with Vera, and that club girl, will I stop all of these."
She watched as different emotions crossed his face, and immediately lost patience when he did not speak up on time, which made her grip the back of his hair, and tilted his head backwards then watched as his face contorted from pain. She leaned forward, and slowly licked his sharp jawline then moved her lips close to his, and gave him a five seconds deep kiss. Jenna pulled away, and wiped her mouth in irritation then started her way towards the door.
"Even kissing you makes me think of the number of times those whores kissed and touched you. It's a good thing I taught them a lesson," she stated in a dry tone while walking around the room with a frown on her face.
"You crossed the line, Jenna Okafor," he said causing Jenna to gasp with shock written on her face.
The red haired woman turned around slowly, and craned her head in question at him. Then watched as he glared at her, followed by a roll of his eyes.
"What did you just call me?" She asked in a hushed voice, and approached the smirking man.
"You made me lose the respect and love I had for you when you stopped trusting the man you became friends with, loved and married. You also lost it when you murdered my best friend, and you know what's funny?"
Jenna swallowed and shook her head in expectation. She drew closer to him and stared, eyes wide and heart hammering in fear of what his next word was.
He chuckled. "I wished I had married Vera but," he paused as his eyes teared up." You had to kill her because of your stupid obsession with me! You hurt me and I never cheated on you!"
Jenna hissed as felt her breath quivering while tears rolled down her cheeks. She began to breath heavily, and bite her bottom lip. She glared at him as her heart ached and
fisted her right hand, and punched him right in the stomach repeatedly before backing away from the groaning man
"It is not obsession!" She yelled. "I am your queen and you are my king. This marriage is our kingdom and I will not allow another take my crown. Do you understand me, dear husband?!"
Jonathan groaned. "You're a psychopath. I am not your husband, and neither are you my wife. The sooner you get it, the better for both of us."
Jenna nodded after a few seconds of staring at each other, and walked over to the door. She pulled it open and spoke to someone outside then turned back around and faced him with a cheshire smile. She walked over to the closet in the room and pulled out her wedding veil from years back, and put it on while Jonathan watched incredulously.
"Oh, Jonathan. We will be renewing our vows and we'll start our lives all over again," she said in a sing-song voice, and stood in front of him.
"Go to hell," he spat venomously.
She smirked. "Oh, honey. I already signed up for that with Vera."
The door opened and an unfamiliar thug-ish looking man that stood tall and intimidating, walked in. His face was in a frown and his hair, cut short. He looked between Jenna and Jonathan before pulling out a small Bible from his back, and stood in a corner.
"You realize that it was stupid of you to come back to the same place that the cops chased you from," Jonathan reasoned and Jenna simply shrugged. "You did all of these for no reason. That girl at the clubhouse... Yes, I went there to drink my sorrows away but she came up to me. I decided to let go, and sleep with her. But nothing happened by the time I got there. She ended being a shoulder to cry on, we became friends and met up the following day. We didn't do anything!"
Jenna looked sideways at his revelation, while piecing his words together with the pictures she had received. A part of her made her lean towards the truth she felt he was giving but discarded it.
"I don't care. You already cheated. Well, the fact is; they wouldn't come here as a first, second or third choice. They'll be out looking elsewhere while we get married all over again, and about getting children; we will adopt one, because hell will be opened if a woman has your seed," she growled and snapped her fingers at the buff and stoic man who quickly stood closer to them.
"Don't even think that this will make me love you because if I even get the chance in another life, I'll kill you myself," he swore in a thick tone filled with anger.
Jenna chuckled and bent low, leaving a small gap between them. She eyed his furrowed brows, his straight nose and then moved her eyes all over his sweaty face. She briefly glanced at his sore arm, and smirked.
"You wouldn't and-" she was cut off when she heard multiple tyres screeching the ground outside. Jenna made eye contact with the other man in the room, who nodded, and raced to the window. "What is it?"
"Ma'am, the police are here," he replied, with his hand behind his back.
"Shit!" She cursed, and looked down at Jonathan who had a smug look on his face. "What did you do?"
Jonathan gasped dramatically. "Are you scared, Miss Jenna? Tsk, well you see, I had the police place a tracking device on us just in case you do something like what you're already doing. You're not really smart. So, ex wifey. Are you ready to go to prison?"
Jenna gripped her hair tight after taking away the veil then paced around the room. She swallowed every hot bile that developed in her throat, and laced her fingers together then strode over to the window, peeped out and gasped when she saw Gloria and her mother wearing bullet proof vests while being protected by two officers. Her brown eyes teared up as she backed away in realization.
"It seems like your best friend and mother aren't on your side anymore. No body loves you anymore, just look at what Jonathan has caused. He has ended the marriage you both had, your family basically despises you," said her conscience in the form of herself, after appearing, followed by another.
"No one cares for you. They hate you and you're allowing it? Do something! Don't let them take away your chance at happiness!" The second Jenna spoke while Jenna stood between them while covering her ears, and felt the sting of tears in her eyes, including the loud beatings of her heart.
"No. Please, stop! I won't, I won't let that happen. No, please," she said to herself then snapped out of her reverie when she heard the same familiar male voice from before, speak through a megaphone.
"We know you're in there, Jenna Hanks! Come out and we won't have to harm you! One mistake, and we won't hesitate to pull the trigger on you and or come in! Jenna Hanks, come out with your hands on your head!" The person announced.
"Give up," Jonathan casually said, which made Jenna tense up, cross the room and grabbed the other man by the arm.
"Do what I paid you for," she said in a rough tone with teeth clenched. "I paid you to stand by me, you better get out there and kill as much cops as possible until I get married to the love of my life. Stall them. Go."
The man opened his mouth to speak but got quiet when she pulled out a gun from her back, and placed it under his chin. She hissed and gave him a warning look which made him nod before pulling out his own gun, and jogged out of the room.
Jenna looked over at Jonathan who had a frown all over his face. She sighed, and offered him a small smile then picked up the Bible that the thug had dropped, and approached her husband who shifted his head away on instinct.
Just as she was about to speak, they both flinched at the sound of gunshots and shattering of glasses. Jenna felt her body pull out sweat, her heart hammered loudly once again. Without a word, she knelt in front of him.
"Dear, Jonathan. This is a reunion of our lost love and marriage. The reunion that will forever make us inseparable," she said, all smiles while Jonathan became restless and sweaty more. "A reunion of two destined soulmates and-"
Jenna and Jonathan jerked in fear after they heard what sounded like a door breaking. Jenna bit her lip, and stared back at her husband with fear in her eyes.
"You don't have to do this," Jonathan whispered, concern thick in his voice. "Just surrender to the police and I promise you that I won't abandon you."
"You wouldn't?" She asked, her voice laced with hope and a glint of joy in her eyes. "You won't abandon me?"
"Never, I still love you. I love you so much. My feelings for you are still real, even with everything that has happened," he replied with a soft smile caressing his stress filled face.
Jenna started to smile but looked sideways when she saw one of herself appear beside her.
"You must be stupid to think that he'd still love you! Wake up and be smart, Jenna. He's just fooling you all over again. The moment you get into prison, he'll replace you with another woman quickly. Be smart!" The Jenna hollered, stirring the hatred and anger within Jenna's heart once again.
She clenched her fists around the Bible and the gun, rose up and smacked Jonathan on the side of the head with the weapon, making him to growl out in pain. She jumped in fear when she heard heavy footsteps downstairs, and swallowed thickly then rushed to the door and locked it.
"They can't take me away from you, and you won't get away from me. We're married and we are supposed to have and experience everything together. Why are people so against us? All I ever did was be a good wife by fighting for my marriage," she said to herself as she walked up to him.
"There's only one thing to do, Jenna," one of the Jennas said close to her ear with a dubious smile, and raised the hand that held the gun for her to see through her blurred and teary vision.
Jenna stared into space then stared back at the gun after dropping the Bible with raised eyebrows. She licked her dry lips, and briefly looked up at Jonathan who was already shaking his head profusely as blood dripped from the side of his mouth then looked back at the gun between her hands.
"Do it," the first Jenna spoke again beside her. "That is the only way."
"The only way," Jenna whispered in an hypnotized manner.
"This world doesn't want you two, this life hates you. You won't be happy until you and Jonathan are together. So do it. Romeo and Juliet did it. You'll be written in history as the original Romeo and Juliet. You'll be an icon for many who suffer this torment. Do it for love," the first Jenna whispered, circling her with a smirk.
"Open up or we will be forced to break this door down!" She heard the angry voice of one of the officers, making her raise her shaking hands that held the gun at herself.
"What are you doing?" Jonathan panicked.
"Something I should have done long ago," she answered, and pointed it at Jonathan who began to wiggle in his seat with eyes wide open in fear. "We deserve a happy marriage, Jonathan. I want our happily ever after, and that won't happen until I do something, and that time is now."
She placed her index finger in the trigger, and shut her eyes tight as tears rolled down her cheeks, with her bottom lip between her teeth. She opened her eyes and ignored the heavy bangs on the door, and the tight pang in her chest.
Jenna closed in on her husband and began to hum the song they danced to during their wedding reception, with tears in her eyes. The woman tilted her head back, and stared at the ceiling. Hot beads of tears rolled out of her eyes, past her cheeks and ears as the ache in her heart doubled. She got flashes of her wedding day, the events surrounding the day, and the love she had felt.
"...for better, for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, 'til death do us part..." She remembered the voice of the priest from their wedding day years back. The words echoed in her memory as she brought her head down to stare through her slitted eyes at the man sitting across her.
"'Til death do us part," she whispered, and pulled the trigger, instantly killing him. She visibly began to shake as she stared at her husband whose forehead had a bloody hole with blood rolling down his head to his shirt. She inhaled convulsively and screamed out.
And immediately the door opened up, she placed the gun on the side of her head, and shot herself in the temple and dropped to the ground on her knees, finally landing on Jonathan's laps with her arms limp on her sides.
The cops walked in with their guns aimed on instinct, Harriet walked in and screamed while Gloria stood at the door immobilized in shock as they took in the horrid scene, specifically with the way their eyes were opened lifelessly and lips parted.
The two broken women watched, and followed the medics who had rushed in as soon they had picked up their bodies, and took them downstairs and into the ambulance. Two cops held the crying and thrashing mother while Gloria fell to the ground and began to cry as they covered their body up.
Gloria felt someone grab her by the arms but shrugged whoever it was away as she cried harder at her loss. She watched, and so did
Harriet too as the ambulance drove away before they were pulled by their arms into a patrol car.
