Chapter Twelve

"Where were you?" Came Jonathan's question the moment Jenna staggered into the dark house, and after a few seconds of running her hands against the smooth wall, she felt the ridges of the light switch and flicked it, the whole room brightened.
She stood with her back straight and looked over at the man who was sitting on a couch in the living room with a hard look on his face.
"Why are you still up?" She asked back and began to stagger her way to the stairs but got blocked by her husband. "I-I want to go up."
Jonathan frowned. "You've been drinking and who were you with? You smell like a man's perfume. Jenna, what did you do?"
Jenna shrugged in nonchalance. "Why do you care? It's not like you care or anything. Why care?"
Just as she was about to keep moving towards the stairs, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her almost close to his body. She just stared at him as he took in her outfit with a grimace.
"What are you wearing? You're my wife and you left this house late without letting me know and you're coming home at 2am?" The sound of his strained tone rang in her ears.
"Why is it hurting you that I am dressed up this way, or that I went out to a club and had the best fun of my life?!" Jenna asked in a high pitched voice then giggled. "Now, what do you want from me?"
Jonathan hissed. "What's this?"
"What?" She asked, confused as her husband stared at her neck.
He dropped her wrist and held her neck softly then flipped her dark hair off her shoulder.
"This is a love bite, Jenna. Tell me the truth, who were you with. Is it someone I know? Tell me the actual truth, Jenna. Have you been cheating on me?" Jonathan demanded in a deep voice and all Jenna could do was laugh in his face for a moment then sobered up right after.
"Yes."
Jonathan backed away after her statement, mouth open and eyes widened. He ran his fingers through his hair and exhaled heavily.
"I can't believe this," he said and looked at her in anger. "Why would you do such a thing to me?! What happened to our vows?!"
Jenna tilted her head sideways and smiled at him then gave another quick shrug of nonchalance.
"I don't care," she simply said with a wave of her small hands. "You shouldn't either. You also cheated on me. So." She moved her hand in front of her until she pointed it at him.
Jonathan growled under his breath. "I have never cheated on you!"
"Stop lying to me!" She barked, her eyes stinging and brimming with hot tears. "I am not stupid or naive, dear husband. I've seen it all, the way you two talk, walk, play and even look at each other! Did you think I was never going to find out?!"
Jenna breathed convulsively as she held her head with her hands while shaking her head left to right. She took her hands down and looked up at Jonathan who had his fists clenched to his sides.
"Is that all?"
Jenna frowned. "What?"
"You said I cheated on you, is that all? Prove it!" He yelled at the top of his lungs.
"I saw both of you on our bed! The bed where we sleep and have had so many-" she broke down. "So many beautiful moments together."
His brown eyes softened as he took in his wife, her sweaty face, red eyes and tear stricken cheeks but when he saw her rumpled clothes, he got angry again.
"Beautiful?" He laughed. "So much for that when you go outside and sleep with men."
The room got quiet for a moment before Jenna nodded to herself and looked sideways.
"I hate you," she muttered. "I hate you!"
Jonathan simply laughed and crossed his arms and shook his head.
"Which reminds me of something, before you do that or go ahead with that lie, I have a request," Jonathan stated drily. "I feel this atmosphere is best for what I am about to say. That way, you can vent out whatever you want to."
"I don't want to hear anything from you, dear husband! I don't want anything to do with you right now!" She yelled and more hot tears rolled down her cheeks.
He scoffed. "I want us to get pregnant."
Jenna hissed. "Are you trying to mock me or have you forgotten that I cannot conceive anymore? Why do you choose to hurt me?"
"I want us to get a surrogate," he stated like she hadn't spoken.
Jenna felt her knees go weak at his words, which led her down to the cold floor on her knees. Her lips were parted in shock and face paler than before. She swallowed.
"W-What?"
"I believe you heard me. Listen, I wanted this to come out in a more comfortable atmosphere but with the attitude you've been putting up lately? One minute you disappeared for days and another minute you're back and going to nightclubs looking like a slut, makes me wonder what secrets you're hiding," Jonathan mentioned in a rough tone and with a hard face.
Jenna shifted her gaze from his body to her laps where she rested her hands. She stared at the floor and blinked, then stared at the teardrop that was now on the reflecting tiles. She sniffed and stood up gradually.
"Who?"
"Huh?"
"Who's going to be the surrogate mother?" She asked while fear gripped her heart and mind, praying it wasn't who she thought it was. She didn't know how she would react to such.
Jonathan sighed. "Believe me, I thought of hiring the women who do this, so to avoid any clash after much thought and-"
"Who. Did. You. Pick?" She asked through her clenched teeth.
Jonathan swallowed. "I-It's V-Vera."
Jenna felt her heart constrict within her chest and her body went cold at the news that sank into her head. She felt the urge to scream out her pain and fight it out like she always did but at that moment, she was stupefied.
"Jenna, I-I know it's sad but we really need a child of our own right now. Even Vera decided against it but I forced her to," he chuckled. "A little bit of blackmailing also."
Jenna hummed. "It's not funny, and I hope you two succeed in making a beautiful baby."
With that, she walked up the steps, leaving Jonathan perplexed until she got to the hallway of the house. She walked slowly, almost dragging her legs on the floor while tears brimmed her eyes.
"Now, he's done the worst of it all," the first Jenna spoke while walking beside her.
Jenna paused and shut her eyes tight, then hugged her body.
"He doesn't need those tears, Jenna. He isn't worth it. Whatever he did down there was him telling you the truth about what he does with her and are you going to let that happen? He's technically asking for a public display for their affection, the permission. This is all a ploy to give them the right to do nonsense." Her first conscience said with a frown.
"No." Came her clipped response.
"Then wipe those tears and do what you gotta do. Because if you don't, you'll watch your husband love another woman, care for her, pay attention to her while you suffer every day and night," she coaxed and Jenna hesitantly nodded then walked away briskly.
The woman got to a door, pushed it open and walked into her dim lit dojo. She looked around then walked over to a set of cabinets where she began to search one after the other until she pulled out one section.
Her eyes rested deeply on the piece of L-shaped object on the soft cushioned pillow before she picked up the gun and admired the black weapon closely.
"What are you doing?" Her second conscience asked as soon as she appeared beside her. "You can't kill, if you kill, you'll go to jail. Put it down."
Jenna dropped the weapon and pushed the drawer back into its place. She breathed out.

Five Years Ago
"What would you like to have first? Girl or boy?" Jenna asked as she traced her fingers on her boyfriend's clothed chest.
They were lounging together on a couch in Jonathan's house while watching a movie. Their attention was drawn away from the television when the lead characters were expecting a baby, hence, pulling them into a conversation about their future plans.
"Hmm, I want a girl. That way, she'll be as cute as you and get a little dose of my gorgeousness," Jonathan replied and laughed softly after she had poked his nose.
"Aw, I want a girl too, babe," she said and placed a kiss on his cheek. "I can't wait for the day I get to be your wife."
Jonathan smiled. "You keep spoiling me with your sweet words, making me all soft and falling for you more."
Jenna laughed. "Of course, I know."
Present Day
Jenna opened her eyes and kept it trained on the window that gave a dull glow of a new day. She rolled over and faced the ceiling and yawned.
"What do I do now? Do I run away or find love in another place?" She asked and immediately sat up after her brown eyes widened. "What do I tell my mother?"
Jenna hugged her shins and placed her chin on her knees then kept a focused look on the edge of the bed. Her alarm began to ring but she chose to ignore the device until she heard footsteps outside the room.
She stood up and walked over to the door, pulled it open slightly and to her mild disappointment, she saw Jonathan suiting up for work. She followed his movements with her eyes until he vanished out of the hallway and when she was about to shut the door, she heard Vera's voice.
"Let me guess, her car is still broken down?" She asked herself and made her way out of the room to the balcony overlooking the living room where she saw Vera and Jonathan talking, if not whispering to each other.
Jenna watched as the dark haired woman rearranged her husband's tie and lapel of his suit, she scoffed and rolled her eyes at their display until they left the house.
The dishevelled haired woman rushed into her room, changed into jeans and a simple red shirt then ran down to the living room where she took one of the car keys, and jogged out of the house after making sure that they had driven away.
She boarded a car and swerved out of the garage speedily then drove after them but not too close.
"You have made me stoop so low, Jon," she stated and kept her distance behind them. "I have never stooped so low but God, you made me do it. How dare you hurt me and rub everything wrong with me in my face because you found perfection in someone else?"
She inhaled convulsively then gripped the steering wheel tight.
"I won't let this continue."
