Chapter Six

Flashback...

"Guess what, Jonathan?" Vera's cheery reached Jenna's ears as she made it into the hallway leading to the few rooms in their home. When she heard Jonathan's response, she moved her head around, in search of where they were.

The moment she found them, in the study, she leaned on the wall, away from their sight. Vera was sitting on the wooden desk of the study while her husband was sipping a glass of water in front of her.

"Remember when you told me that you love instrumental music. That it's your relief? Well, I've started taking classes for one, violin lessons. That way, if you're ever stressed, you know where to find me."

Jenna felt her heart constrict when Jonathan gave her a pat on her cheek, while Vera leaned into his touch. At that, she rolled her eyes and backed away with a thought in her head.

...

Jenna caressed the keys of the grand piano that was situated in a dim lit room in their house, the only light source was from the lamps standing on each corner of the room. The only furniture was the long cushioned bench and the midnight black instrument. She inhaled softly and exhaled hard and pushed a few melodious keys then smiled as she tuned to the tunes of the song that they had danced to on their wedding day.

She began to hum the song softly, her voice coming off nicely until the middle of the song and the ending, while her mind was filled with memories from their wedding day.

Jenna paused, her fingers hovering over the white keyboards of the piano and rubbed her face in exasperation after a deep sigh.

"Wow, I missed hearing you play and was that song for me?" Came Jonathan's question from the entrance of the room.

Jenna rose up quickly and stared at the man who was leaning against the door frame with arms crossed and a smirk on his pink lips. She laced her fingers in front of her laps and looked down at her bare feet as sadness and guilt washed over her. She silently hoped that he was not still vexed with her after what happened.

Jonathan chuckled. "You should know that I'll never be mad at you for too long," he said and approached her. "I had to stay away so I wouldn't hurt you in any way. Your words kinda hurt, you know."

Jenna nodded and raised her head to stare up at the tall man. She slowly unclasped her fingers and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"I was just angry and was also worried about the way you left," she whispered and he shrugged with a smile.

"I had to sleep over at Vera's place and I'm telling you this so you wouldn't find out somewhere else and think that I cheated on you or something," Jonathan said in a light tone and placed his hands on her shoulders.

Jenna felt a heavy weight go off her chest at his words. She offered him a genuine smile then wrapped her arms around him in a hug. He was still her husband, she was married to him, he belonged to her and she was happy and would not allow another woman make her feel insecure.

"I am sorry for ever thinking that you cheat on me. I was just insecure about the fact that you and Vera have something so special and we don't. It almost seems like you trust her more and confide in her more," she whispered against his thumping chest. His beating heart soothed her and brought a smile to her face.

Jonathan wrapped his strong arms around her waist tightly and began moving his hands up and down her back before placing one hand in her hair. He sighed and kissed the crown of her head.

"I understand, Jenna. It's natural for you to feel that way and I get it, my love. Vera made me understand that and I'm ready to make you feel more loved and cherished by me. You are my wife and my soul mate," he said and cupped her cheeks with both hands, his brown eyes stared deep into her own. "I am sorry for making it seem like what we had was nothing."

Jenna smiled. "It's okay, Jon. I don't really care anymore as long as we put it aside. I love you."

"I love you more," he whispered and kissed her lips softly then. "How about we remember our love for each other?" He wiggled his eyebrows.

Jenna giggled and pushed his chest softly then walked away from his hold to the door.

"First of all, I'm hungry and need my stomach stuffed," Jenna retorted in a cheery tone and left the room, leaving a laughing Jonathan behind.

"So you two made up?" Gloria asked as they walked around the kitchen of Jenna and Jonathan's home.

The two women were busy preparing dinner, Jenna in front of a steaming pot that sat on a cooker while Gloria was cutting some vegetables on the kitchen counter beside her.

"Yes and I guess I was bothering myself for nothing. I mean, they are best friends and telling them to break whatever it is they have is like asking for a crazy divorce," Jenna replied while stirring the content of the pot.

Gloria nodded and cut out more of the vegetables on the counter. She paused and popped a piece of carrot into her mouth then pointed the knife at Jenna.

"But what about the lipstick stain on his shirt?" She asked and began to cut them again.

"Maybe that was an accident. Jonathan must've hugged someone who smeared her lipstick on his shirt. And like I said, I don't want to really think about all of these things anymore. My marriage to him is way important," Jenna replied, her voice almost filled with irritation. "Just skip this topic."

Gloria raised her arms up in mock surrender and resumed her duty on the vegetables. The room fell silent for almost a minute until the front door was opened and Jonathan walked into the kitchen with a smile.

"Hey, ladies," he said and walked over to Jenna. "Hello, Mrs. Hank." He kissed her forehead and smiled wider.

"You're home early, what happened? You're normally back at 7 but it's 5pm," Jenna said while she pulled his suit jacket off his body. She dumped it on one of the high chairs and walked back to the muscled man.

Jonathan sighed and shifted his gaze to Gloria who gave him a brief sideways glance before she dropped the knife and washed her hands.

"I'll be going home now and please, keep my share of the meal or better still, bring it to work tomorrow, okay?" Gloria ordered and Jenna nodded with a small laughter.

"Sure, Gloria. Bye," Jenna waved and the brown skinned woman beamed before leaving their presence and out the door.

"So?" Jonathan dragged with a glint of joy in his brown eyes.

"What?" She asked with a little chuckle.

"How are you?" He asked, wrapping his arms around her wide hips.

"Well, I'm fine but I've missed you," she whispered up at him.

Jonathan smiled down at the woman in his arms then pecked her on the cheek.

"I'll be upstairs and I can't wait to actually taste what you've cooked for me tonight," he said and winked then left the kitchen with his suit jacket.

Jenna giggled and walked over to the vegetables that her friend had been working on. She began to cut the unattended ones and paused after a few seconds when she remembered what Gloria had said earlier. She shook her head and resumed her work on the vegetables.

"Stop thinking too much, Jenna. There's nothing for you to even think of. You've made up with him and everything is in the past now," she said to herself as she chopped the vegetables

Jenna browsed through a few collections of lingeries on her tablet while sitting in her office at work. Her legs were crossed over one another and a smile of determination on her face as she shopped. She paused at a red lace lingerie and tapped it for a better view.

"Jonathan will love this piece on me," she said to herself and began the purchase process on the lingerie.

Once she was done, she dropped the device and picked up her calendar then traced her finger over the paper with a huge cheeky smile.

"I can't wait for tonight," she said and dropped the calendar when the door was pushed open by an excited looking Gloria.

"Hey," Gloria said and sat down on one of the chairs in front of her desk.

"What's up?" Jenna asked with a wave of her hands.

"I'm good and have you gotten the right Valentine outfit for your hubby?" She asked in interest.

Jenna chuckled. "Yes, I have and he'll drool over it so bad, I tell ya'."

"Ooh, let me see," Gloria cooed and Jenna shifted the tablet over to her friend who grabbed it and checked the lingerie out. "Oh, my God. This is so hot and I'm sure that Jonathan will lose his mind once he sees you in this on the bed, looking like a snack."

"You think so?" Jenna asked in doubt.

"I know so, I mean he's a guy. Men easily fall for hot and sexy. And I'm sure he'll love this side of you once you flaunt it tonight," Gloria reassured with a smile and relaxed on the seat.

"Any other plans?"

"Hmm, try getting a wine and some exotic foods too. It'll set the mood right," she replied with a wink which made Jenna roll her eyes and tossed an eraser at her.

"Thanks, girl," Jenna said in all honesty.

"Yeah, yeah. Thank me when our plan works. Remember, do as I say, okay?" Gloria asked with a wave of her hand.

"Of course."

Jenna happily brushed her hair with a comb as she stood in the bathroom and in front of the mirror. She had a little makeup done on her face and a red silky robe over her body. She kept her gaze fixed on her reflection as she combed out her afro hair.

She blinked rapidly and paused after a gasp when she remembered that she needed to call Gloria. She picked up her phone and dialed Gloria's number, waited for it to ring nervously and beamed when she answered.

"Hello?"

"Are you already dolled up?"

Jenna sighed. "Yes, Gloria and I'm a bit nervous."

"Calm down, Chica. He's your husband not some guy. He'll love it. Just go into the room when he walks in. Let him sit for like five minutes before you surprise him, okay?"

Jenna bit her bottom lip and sighed. She looked at her reflection and smiled then looked down at her body. The light wardrobe stopped at her upper thigh, leaving just her long legs out in display.

"I'm good and thanks again, Gloria," Jenna stated and chuckled when her friend laughed too.

"Just do as I say and-"

Jenna gasped slightly when she heard their bedroom door open and close, making her swallow and bite her fingernail.

"He's here," she whispered and flickered her hand like it was on fire.

"Okay, I'll go now and like I said. Let him chill for at least five minutes before you walk into the room, kay?"

"Yes, I know. Bye," Jenna said and ended the call. She dropped her phone and exhaled through her mouth then began to comb her already good hair again. She patted her cheeks softly and applied more makeup then walked back a little after spraying perfume on her body. "You can do this, Jenna."

"Are you sure this will be right? I mean, it's so damn hot."

Jenna furrowed her brows when she heard the hushed voice of her husband. She craned her head sideways and out of curiosity, she walked towards the bathroom door and pulled it slightly open.

Jonathan was sitting on the bed, his phone against his ear and his laptop on the bed facing him. But what got her attention was what looked like a selfie of Vera in a similar lingerie she was presently wearing. Though she could not see the full face of the woman in her husband's laptop, Jenna was convinced that it was Vera. She knew Vera's body structure anytime and anywhere.

"I can't wait to have a taste of what this feels like, Vera. Look how hot it is here, makes me wonder what more it'll give me. I'm already having imaginations," Jonathan moaned and rubbed his bottom lip seductively.

Jenna backed away from the door as her heart begin to beat extremely fast. She felt her eyes began to sting in sadness and fear as thoughts of Vera and Jonathan sleeping together came to her mind, their current call and the picture on his laptop.

"I'm already turned on by it."

Jenna bit her lip as tears began to fall down her cheeks and leaned over the sink for support. She shut her eyes tight and forced herself to calm her breathing.

"I can't believe this. I thought he said he wasn't cheating on me? Why would he lie to me?" She muttered in a broken voice. "No, I can't-I can't keep on tolerating this."

Jenna took a bathrobe from its rack, wore it over her flimsy outfit, wiped her tears off, grabbed her phone and marched into the room, shocking Jonathan who snapped his laptop shut and ended his call.

"J-Jenna, what are you doing here?"

Jenna scowled. "This is my room too, Jonathan. And why are you asking such a question? Are you doing anything suspicious?"

She eyed him as he moved his mouth like he wanted to say something and when he was about to speak, Jenna rolled her eyes and walked out of the room.

Jenna parked her car carelessly in Gloria's driveway then got off it. She marched to the door and pushed it open, causing Gloria who had been sitting on a couch to jump in fear.

"He's cheating on me! I told you that he was cheating on me!" She barked, tears rolling down her cheeks as her body shook.

Gloria slowly stood up in shock and could only pull the weak woman into her arms in comfort.
