Chapter Fourteen

Jonathan adjusted his black tie as he made his way down the last few steps of his house, before he made a turn into the kitchen but paused when he saw his wife standing in front of the cooker, the hand that held a spoon, poised in the pot and her attention not on the pot of steaming food.

He saw that she looked tired, she had dark rings around her eyes, her hair was not brushed and her free hand clenched the edge of the cooker, so hard. He cleared his throat but she did not budge. He frowned and walked over to her then shook her shoulder.

Jenna gasped and spun around then sighed when she saw Jonathan staring down at her in worry. She briefly took in his suit and faced the pot.

"Are you okay? You were zoned out pretty deep," he said.

"I'm fine," she muttered and left his presence to the sink where she washed out two take out plates.

"What are you cooking?" He asked and peeped into the pot. "Ooh, cassarole."

"Yes, and it's your lunch," she said and placed the plates aggressively on the granite counter in the kitchen. "I made you breakfast."

Jonathan looked away from her to the table in the kitchen and walked over to it, took his sit and began to eat in silence.

Jenna looked over at her shoulder to see if he had started eating then moved over to the steaming pot then turned the cooker off and began to dish out the meals into the two plates. Once she was done, she stuffed her hand into the pocket of her apron and pulled out a small medicine bottle.

She smirked. "You can't run away from my wrath."

With that, she emptied the whole content of the small black bottle into one of the plates and placed it back into her apron then cocked the plates shut and faced her husband who was already done eating. She smiled.

"Jon, I made lunch for Vera too," she said sweetly which made Jonathan confused for a moment. "Oh, come on. It's my peace offering to her, hubby. If I could forgive you, I need to forgive her too. I said a lot of bad things to her too."

He nodded. "Makes sense and I'm sure she'll love it."

"She'll love it alright," her conscience in her form stated beside her and Jenna chuckled in response.

"Good," she said and took the two plates and placed them in two different bags. "This one is for her, it's bigger. I want her to eat as much as she can."

Jonathan stood up and took them happily and kissed her briefly.

"Make sure she eats it, Jonathan. You have yours too," she said as Jonathan began to make his way to the living room. "Tell her to call me!"

"Sure, babe!" Jonathan yelled back and left the house.

"That's if she stays alive to call," the second Jenna retorted and scoffed at the same time everyone of them did.

"I hope she doesn't actually call," Jenna said.

"That's so nice of her, I'll call her when it's lunch time. And to think that I forgot my own lunch?" Vera said and laughed.

"Yeah, but I'm sure she's forgiven you," Jonathan said and wrapped his arm around Vera's shoulder as they walked into his office. "Last night was great but also tragic with what happened to your neighbor. Who could kill her like that?"

Vera shrugged. "I don't know but it's scary that she's dead. I was really close to her, you know. I became close to her when people kept saying we look so alike and all."

"Hey, it's okay. I hate seeing you sad. It's hurts me too," Jonathan said and placed his hands on her cheeks. "Everything will be fine, you have me, okay?"

Vera smiled. "I'll try, Jonnie."

Jonathan shook his head and wrapped his arms around her waist then twirled her around, making her squeal at the top of her lungs. He stopped and placed her on his desk and offered her a sly smile.

"Now give me that smile I love," he whispered and she did naturally.

"You idiot," she said.

"Yeah, yeah," he said and walked over to his executive chair.

Jenna gently pressed the cold keys of the piano melodiously with a smile on her face with a sweet hum coming from her throat. She cracked her closed eyes open and intensified the notes she was playing then stopped after a few minutes.

"That feeling you get when everything falls into place," she said and grabbed the glass of alcohol sitting on the piano, took a sip and stood up. "Do I call the office to find out if that slut is dead?"

Jenna made her way out of the music room and into the living room where she sat on a couch and turned the television on. She flipped through channels in boredom and decided to suffice for the fashion channel.

Her phone rang from somewhere in the room and she stood up quickly, searching for the ringing device in the room. When she found it, she picked the call and rushed back to her couch.

"J-Jenna?"

She frowned and rolled her eyes when she heard Gloria's voice and not Jonathan's, like she had been expecting.

"What?"

"Oh, sorry for disturbing you but there's trouble."

She smiled. "Trouble? What trouble might this be and does it involve someone I know?"

"Huh? Whatever, please. I am only saying this because you're my friend. Jenna, I got information from a source and it looks like the cops are sort of looking for you."

Jenna stood up straight at what she had said in shock.

"What?!"

"According to them, the hospital you were at; you murdered the nurse who was assisting you at that moment has been reported dead after you left that room. Jenna, what did you do and what have you turned to?"

Jenna looked ahead of her in fear then covered her mouth and shut her eyes tight. She exhaled and removed her hand from her mouth and rolled her eyes.

"She's dead, yes. I did it out of self defense and my safety. Besides, they can't find me and I hope you didn't tell them where I was," Jenna said in a grim tone. "Did you?!"

"No, I haven't even met any police but I had to let you know but why would you kill an innocent person, Jenna? What has gone wrong and-"

Flashback...

After smashing her head into the mirror and taking off her clothes and wearing them, Jenna stared down at the groaning woman who had blood stains on her underwear and face. She watched as the nurse began to crawl slowly and painfully towards the entrance of the bathroom. Jenna chuckled.

"You're not going anywhere and stopping me," she said and looked around the small bathroom for a moment until her eyes came in contact with one of the glass shards. She picked a bigger one and dragged the nurse back to her.

Jenna raised her occupied hand over her own head after pinning the panicking woman down then brought down her hand with force. She smiled.

"All these are for you, Jon."

••

"Shut up! I did it for Jonathan and if you want to blame anyone, blame that bitch called Vera! She made me do it, I swear. She did," Jenna said then broke down. "If not for her, I wouldn't have done this. Why would she take my husband away."

"Jenna?"

"Leave me alone, please. No one understands what I am going through right now. No one!" She threw her phone away and dropped to her knees. "This isn't what I wanted."

There was a heavy knock on the door, which made her flinch and stare at it in shock. The knock came again before she stood up and walked slowly to the door and peeped from the window. She gasped.

"Police!" A gruff voice said.

Jenna backed away from the door and ran up the steps and into her room, went to a corner and hugged her legs.

"They can't catch me, no. Not now," she whispered and rose up then changed into a black shirt and a dark jeans, then sneakers. She grabbed a black baseball cap, wore it and grabbed a hoodie.

Jenna raced through the hallway and ended up in her dojo, searched through the cabinets until she found her gun then tucked it in the waistline of her jeans then took a dagger and strapped it around her ankle then rushed out of the dojo, down the steps and kitchen.

She checked through the back door for any sign of the cops but got none then walked out of the through the door.

"You better keep quiet or I'll pull this trigger," Jenna threatened with the gun pointed at Gloria who was sitting on her bed with fear gripping her entire body. "How could I be so careless?"

She paced around the bedroom, while hitting her temples slightly, muttering to herself and breathing heavily. She stopped pacing and growled.

"What do I do now?" She asked and sat beside Gloria on the bed. "What would Jonathan think of me now?"

"You caused it yourself and you have to suffer for it," Gloria added with an eye roll. "You should have just opted for a divorce and not act like a psychopath."

"Shut up!" She yelled and pushed her friend off the bed. "Don't blame me for this! Don't you even dare try to. All of these are his fault. First, that nurse now that woman."

Gloria frowned. "What woman?"

Jenna shook her head and stood up then began to pace around all over again. She gripped the gun tight and muttered again to herself.

"It was supposed to be her," she muttered repeatedly.

"What woman are you talking about, Jenna?!" Gloria yelled and she flinched at the level of her voice before turning around to face Gloria with a sad expression.

"I didn't mean for it to happen, I swear. All I wanted was to get Vera out of the way," she whimpered and drew closer to a confused Gloria.

"What did you do?" Gloria asked in a horrified tone.

"Nothing, I-Well," Jenna paused then frowned and pointed the gun at Gloria who gasped. "If you dare say one word about what I am about to say, I will not hesitate to put a bullet in your thick skull, got it?"

Gloria nodded slowly.

"Good," she smirked. "Let's just say that I am honoring the vows of our marriage. Besides, when the priest asked someone to speak their mind or forever hold their peace, no one did. So, I am eliminating those who come between my husband and I. I wanted to kill that ungrateful serpent, Vera but ended up killing someone else."

Gloria felt her heart drop and sweat break out of her skin as she digested what the psyched up woman said. She looked her up and down when Jenna began to laugh softly.

"Why are you like this?" Gloria whispered.

"Because I am a strong woman who wants nothing to destroy her marriage. I am not like other women who sit back and do nothing! I am Jenna! Why can't someone understand that?! Stop judging me!" She screamed.

"You're crazy! You've lost your mind over a man who may not care about you anymore! How can you do such a thing to a human being! Two human beings! You need help, Jenna. This has to stop."

Jenna snorted. "No one can stop me, until I'm done with what I have planned. Heck! Not even after I'm done. If there's one thing I don't like, it's having my properties taken away from me. This marriage will not be taken away from me until all threats are removed. You either support me, Gloria, or die while objecting my demands!"
