Thunder.
By the thousands the Wakandan troops headed to the edge of the holographic dome to meet the two headliners in the attack. Proxima Midnight, and Cull Obsidian, Children of Thanos. Sent to try again for the second time to retrieve the Mind Stone.
However, this time the enemy came prepared...
The mysterious pieces of fallen containment ships sunk down, pivoting deep into the red hot soil like craters on the moon. The large metal objects for now closed, inactive like a flower curling up for the night, but that didn't make them any less daunting. Much like a dormant volcano it doesn't ease the worries when you still know that what lies within is festering chaos.
For a second all was still, the blue phasing barrier which cut across the horizon separating the heroes from the foes, and while the battle lie in wait I took to the aircraft built entirely from Vibranium.
The jet made for the sole purpose of War, large, sleek, and full of weapons. With dual sonic cannons, and kinetic energy blasters with enough power to destroy whole cities.
Stepping in through the opened hatch I went straight into the cockpit, the Kimoye beads I was given allowing me access to the control panel immediately.
Scanning over the PDF, VSI, CAVU, as well as the sonic stabilizers, and the gauges to control the cannons I sat, and strapped myself in.
Just as I was about to lift off I heard a crack in my earpiece followed by the sound of a voice coming in.
"Rebecca?" I heard Bucky say, making me halt in my tracks. "I love-"
"Don't say it," I hastily interrupted. " If you say it then it's as good as goodbye, and it means that we won't live to see tomorrow."
"Yeah, but-" He continued, wanting so much to say all the things that ran through his mind, but I didn't want to hear it. I couldn't hear it.
I couldn't hear what could potentially be his last words to me, or our last conversation. I wasn't going to end up being a damn widow, and the only thing that kept me going was that both Bucky, and I would live to see the dawn of a new day.
"We either live together, or we die together remember? So, don't say anything James, promise?"
"Alright, Doll. I promise. Don't do anything reckless."
"You don't either. No one hurts my Buck-Buck, got it?"
"Got it."
The line went dead then, and I bit my lip, swallowing back the knot that had formed in my throat. I wanted to hope, one last time. Now was not the time to think, it was time to fight.
The dropships that jutted out like metal pyramids all suddenly opened, unfurling themselves one by one like titanium petals. Each one rising up even higher into the atmosphere, moving to grant access to release whatever hell awaited within.
The rumble of the ships gears, and plates made the ground shake, and then in a mass flurry the said hell was freed...
Thousands upon thousands of genetically engineered alien foot-soldiers who's only motivation was to kill pushed their way out of their metal cages. Their grotesque fanged teeth dripping with drool, and they had claws sharp like swords attached to their paws.
The monstrous extraterrestrial beings mere puppets in the eyes of the Children of Thanos, devices created to do only one thing: kill. And, do whatever it takes to kill.
Readying themselves the Wakandan's chanted together, their ritual before a fight ringing across the plains.
"Yibambe! Yibambe!" They all cried out, slamming their spears against the ground in unison as the aliens charged their way to the dome on Proxima's command.
The blue barrier in turn blocking them, but not sufficiently enough as the swarm grew. More and more of them slipping on in despite the barrier itself damaging them. The fiends bodies burning, getting mangled up horrendously as pieces of them got shredded apart, and yet... They still kept on coming. Not caring about the fact that they were killing themselves.
The desire to kill so strong inside them that they didn't care that they were committing suicide just to get to the lineup of heroes. And, a couple stray monsters wrangled on in while the rest took to running along the edge of the dome in an attempt to circle around the border. The Outriders plan to get in around us.
"Cap, if these things circle the perimeter, and get in behind us there's nothing between them and Vision." Bruce pointed out, clad in his Hulkbuster suit while Sam and Rhodey took to taking down the stray intruders that had already gotten through.
"Well, then we better keep them in front of us." I heard Steve say.
"On my signal. Open North-West section 17." The King ordered, granting entry to the monsters willingly.
The blue force field neatly splitting apart in one clean cut, allowing the wrath of millions on in.
"Wakanda forever!" The soldiers shouted before racing head on just as fast as the aliens were racing to them. The fight on the ground starting up in full swing, the body count rising by the minute.
Alien limbs, and human blood being splashed all around the more intense it got.
Lifting off, the Warcraft's landing gear slinking on into the under-carriage I took to the skies, my hand firm on the throttle.
"I'll take out the dropships. Stop even more of those things from coming out." I spoke through my earpiece, gripping onto the gears while speeding into an Aileron roll, doing a full 360' spin before flying straight in between the barriers opening.
The numbers in which the Outriders grew almost infinite. For with each one dead ten more followed making the battle ceaseless with no steps forward into getting anywhere.
Glancing down at the fight below it looked to be almost futile, and I had to lessen the enemy numbers, so flying forward higher up I began to incessantly bomb the unguarded dropships with enough kinetic power to detonate them completely.
The metal pyramid like structures one by one being blown up entirely with the Outriders still inside. The soaring pieces of broken apart, burning ship sailing down to the ground before ripping through the soil.
The dual cannons I was firing wiping out the first containment ship, then the second, and then the third with ease. The fiery explosions spreading like a plume of fireworks, the wreckage plunging into the earth, and demolishing Wakanda's vegetation.
Gray smoke filled the air from the burning debris, and angling the wings of the jet I did a loop in the air before flying towards the fourth one, intent on annihilating the last two.
Though before I could ready the jets weaponry once again I suddenly felt something sharp gash right through one of the engines, and start to yank me down by the right wing.
Cull Obsidian's chain link hammerhead the cause, his weapon having completely lacerated a turbine, and at this point I was flying dead-stick. My propulsive power cut in half, and nothing I could do to try and stabilize the imbalance was working.
"Aircraft integrity 40%." The Warcraft's A.I. alerted, and the holographic control panel went red, the warning lights flickering on within the cockpit.
With all force against the throttle I rapidly swung the jet from side to side, fighting back against being pulled down. The aircraft's rotation forcing Cull to release his hold on his hammer, his weapon still stuck in the wing, but now no longer causing me to death spiral down nose first.
"Aircraft integrity 15%." The A.I. warned once more, the Kimoye beads I was wearing urging me to get to the emergency exit.
"Hey, your Highness? Is it okay if I destroy your jet? I know you made it for me, but can I hit self destruct?" I shakily spoke through my earpiece.
"Wait, Becky. What's happening?" I heard Steve ask, undoubtedly noticing my smoking, spiraling jet in the air.
"Doll, what are you-" I also heard Bucky chime in, sounding especially worried about what I was about to do before T'Challa cut in.
"You will have thirty seconds." The Panther said to me, and I looked ahead at the fourth dropship before forcing the self destruct setting, slamming my fist down onto the red button.
"Warning: Self destruct in 30 seconds." The A.I. threatened, and hastily I unbuckled myself from the pilots seat, forcing the plane into auto with it's course set forward right towards the fourth containment ship.
Rushing into the cabin I thrusted open the pressurized emergency exit, causing the wicked wind to barrel in, the elevation I was at making it almost hard to breathe.
"Warning: Self destruct in 5 seconds." The A.I. continued, and all I could do was close my eyes, and jump.
Free-falling straight out of the sky I leapt from the jet just as it exploded right smack dab into the fourth alien shuttle, and as I fell I watched as the detonation mushroomed into pure fire and smoke.
The blast blazing orange, it's bursting cloud sending metal shrapnel pieces flying at all angles, nearly hitting me while in mid-air as I continued to plummet. The ground below coming a lot sooner than I'd like it to.
But, just as I was about to hope for the best a deafening crack of lightning struck across the sky. The thunder booming like a lions roar, and flashes of electricity coursed all throughout the atmosphere.
The crackling sounds of a storm brewing resounding strongly as blue hued thunderbolts reflected in my eyes.
And, before I crashed to the ground the God of Thunder himself swooped me up in his arms. His silver armor sparking, his new hammer ablaze. Him having sailed into earth's atmosphere by the coattails of the Bi-Frost.
"Hello, Lady Rebecca. It's been awhile." The God greeted, accompanied by a tree, and a raccoon before he safely set me down on the grassy terrain.
Thor smiled at me before charging up his new weapon, Stormbreaker, with lightning once more before he raced off to take on the rest of the Outriders. The Asgardian chopping down hundreds of the bloodthirsty mutilated aliens in one fueled up swing.
Immediately I noticed Bucky, and Steve run over to me. With Bucky pulling me into a tight hug.
"Doll, don't do anything reckless, remember? You're almost as bad as Steve."
I just smiled, and hugged him back while Steve sighed in relief.
