Chapter 15

"Let the Gathering begin!"

Firefang licked a paw and drew it over his ear. A quarter-moon had passed since he was made a warrior, and over half of the rogues that had invested TigerClan were dead.

Alongside Tigerstar sat two other cats. One was a small, lean black tom with a twisted front paw that hung limply out in front of him. The other was a small, fluffy silver she-cat that looked no older than Swiftstrike or Lostface.

"I will begin this meeting," The black tom meowed deeply, his words echoing around the clearing. "I am Deadstar, leader of WindClan."

"Deadstar! Deadstar! Deadstar!" Firefang did not join in on the cheering. He was busy studying the new leader. Why did that stupid, weak cat become leader? He's just as useless as that front paw of his.

The new leader cleared his throat and the gathered cats fell silent once more. "Prey is running well, despite the frost that edges the moors each night. WindClan is well-prepared for any threat that may come our way," the tom flexed his claws and flared at Tigerstar, who met his gaze evenly. "That is all."

Next, the RiverClan cat stood. "You may know me as Silverfeather," the she-cat began, "but I am now Silverstar."

Several cats gasped. "She was made a warrior only three moons ago!"

"Who put her in charge?"

"Silence!" Tigerstar's yowl worked, and the whole clearing fell silent. "But I too am intrigued, Silverstar. How ever did you become leader of RiverClan so quickly?"

The silver she-cat swept her gaze over the clearing. "I was simply the most capable cat available. Now, on to our reports..."

Firefang stopped listening to the young leader. He was too busy imagining sinking his claws into Tigerstar's stupid face. He licked his lips at the thought of Tigerstar's blood on his tongue. You will die at my claws, Tigerstar, and I will save my Clan.

"Firefang, wake up."

The soft growl made his eyes fly open. "You! I haven't seen you in moons!"

The calico she-cat before him had her tail lashing out behind her. "Did you think that I'd forgotten you?"

"Well, it has been awhile..." The StarClan cat hadn't spoken in his ear for almost three moons.

"I think that it's time you learned my name."

Firefang stared at her, excitement spiking his pelt. I'll finally know who my savior is!

A sneer was beginning to form on her scarred muzzle. Firefang's ear twitched in confusion. "I am Mapleshade, leader of the Dark Forest."

Firefang's eyes grew wide and his blood ran cold. The Dark Forest!? "You told me that you were a StarClan cat!" He roared.

"Did I?" The sly she-cat began to weave around him. "Or did you just assume that's who I was? Tigerstar was right," Mapleshade began to cackle. "You're way too trusting."

Firefang was staring at his paws. "Oh, what's wrong, kittypet? Are you ashamed? Or scared?"

The ginger tom slowly raised his head. Mapleshade gasped when she saw the cold flames that had ignited in his eyes. "I may have been once, but not anymore."

He leapt at her with a roar. She chuckled and ducked out of the way at the last second, rolling across the filthy earth. Firefang growled as his claws met on the blood-soaked dirt.

"You'll have to do better than that, kittypet!" Mapleshade barely had the words out of her mouth before Firefang's claws met her face. She roared in pain, her forepaws instinctively shooting up to her face.

"What have you done!?" She screeched, lowering her paws. A hollow hole was all the remained of her left eye, which was dangling sickeningly down her face.

Firefang smirked. "I'm giving you what you deserve, for lying to me." With another yowl he sprang at her, claws extended towards her frail form.

Before his claws could meet flesh, a dark brown blur flashed in between him and his target. Firefang yowled in surprise as a large tom pinned him in the horrid-smelling grass.

"Watch yourself, kittypet," a familiar cat spat in his face.

"Brokentail?"

"I am Brokenstar here," the tom growled, digging his claws deeper into the smaller tom's shoulders. Firefang writhed under his tight grip. "You should leave."

Firefang snapped at the larger tom's forepaw. "Not until that cat pays for what she's done to me."

Brokenstar sighed, letting him up. "Very well, but make it quick."

Licking his lips in satisfaction, Firefang yowled in triumph as he sprang at his victim once more.
