The idea of ​​writing this story first appeared after "Good Words and Freehand" and before "Exclusive Memories". At that time, I wrote less than 5,000 words.

At that time, due to my own reasons, I couldn't write about the profession of doctors with a calm and aloof attitude, so I put it on hold later, and finally let it go, and wrote "Exclusive Memory" instead. When I re-wrote this article, I also had a little discomfort, and I was very depressed at one time, so when the article reached 30,000 words, the serialization began intermittently.

Dentists have been with me throughout my adolescence. In the first twenty years of my life, I have had the most dealings with dentists. There are doctors I don't like and doctors I like. Some doctors are mercenary, and some doctors are worthy of admiration, and Ai Jing Chu is a yearning for an ideal doctor for me and many others.

Originally, this is a novel about childhood and youth memories, the grey memories hidden deep in my heart when I was a child, the outstanding brother next door, and those first loves that died without a problem, etc. I originally planned to start writing from the time when Zeng Li was fifteen years old, and then describe her entire growth process. Unfortunately, I was not satisfied with some of the writing, so I chose her twenty-four-year-old as a new starting point, and only interspersed some previous fragments as memories in the text.

Next, I want to talk about the name of the storyteller. This is a poem I like very much – "Among the dust in the world, I would rather love or hate". So I made the first half of the sentence the title of the book, and the second half of the sentence the name of the person, and wrote this story about "Wu", "Ning", "Ai", "Yu" and "Zeng". Originally, Wu Ying and Ning Feng had much more roles in the original intention, but later, many details were deleted due to space constraints.

The former Zeng Li and Yu Yi are deplorable. Sometimes, we think we love someone, but we don't know that what we love may not be that person, but the feeling of love.

When Zeng Li recalled the plot of his first love, there were two dialogues in the movie "Days on the Cloud":

"What if I say I love you?"

"It's like lighting a candle in a bright room."

Zeng Li misunderstood this line of dialogue twice before, and finally she realized that that love is just a little bit of weak candlelight in a bright room, and it is not important.

In the article, Zeng Li read the movie-related article on a certain page of a magazine. I also read it when I was nineteen years old. I still remember the original text:

—What if I say I love you?

— Like lighting a candle in a bright room.

Antonioni, who directed this line, has been interpreting the alienation and unreasonableness between people throughout his life.

Love, how joyful it can be, and how vulnerable it can be.
