Part 0

First life

Jungkook looked happily at the flame that was burning in front of him, placed on the high  Golden pedestal. His pure orbs reflected its light as he continued his prayers inside his mind.

He was a child of the sun. One of the most respected Gods of his race. Since the day he was born, his life was dedicated to serving the beloved and well-respected God whom humans looked up to and admired, gifting them their prayers and devotion.

In the small town where he was living, he was the only one left in his temple, as the once famous and preferred town had started being abandoned by its citizens.

His world might have become small, but he didn't mind, cause these days he had found himself being happier than ever before and all because of a certain human that he had seen some years ago.

The daughter of the fisherman had passed by the garden of the temple that afternoon, a thing that she wasn't supposed to be doing, as not everyone was allowed to step in that place.

That place was only for Jungkook. Its gates opened only to him and no one else, no matter how good their hearts may have been. However, to his surprise, it had opened to her and that itself was a message he couldn't deny.

It seemed that that girl was important, however, even after asking around about her, the only information that he got was that she was a traveller, and together with her father that was a fisherman, they would travel from sea to sea.

Assuming that she was gone, his eyes at that moment had reflected a sadness that he couldn't justify however after so many years that he had been waiting to see her again, this week he had heard that the fisherman would be coming back in town.

The anticipation in his heart was vast, his eyes unintentionally searching for her figure in that garden full of greenery and colourful flowers as it was now the season of spring.

After finishing his prayer he headed outside. His steps were the only sound that could be heard around the temple as he was the only one living there.

He used to sing sweet melodies whenever he felt the silence around him getting heavy, soft little prayers becoming his lyrics. This time as well he did so, his velvety voice echoing around him, till he reached the garden and his breath was caught in his throat.

The girl he had been waiting for was there. Sitting on the grass with some flowers on her lap, her fingers knitting something with them while a smile was dancing on her lips.

Jungkook couldn't help but smile, the brightest smile that he had ever worn on his holy face as his looks were truly angelic. Dressed in all white with black shaded features that complement his sun-kissed skin. His eyes were always full of light and life, decent for someone that had dedicated his life to the God of the sun.

He approached her without any fear nor any bad intentions and to his surprise, she wasn't scared or bothered by him either, enabling them to have a good conversation that day and to meet many... many more days after.

Jungkook's life had never felt more complete, but his life was supposed to be dedicated to only one thing. And that wasn't her.

One fateful afternoon, he had stayed with her as always, till the sun would set, talking about the world, the stars, and exchanging knowledge in general but this night was not like the others as she yesterday had told him, that in two days time, she would depart with her father again, leaving.

He wanted to tell her to stay so badly, but as what he would do that. He had no right to do so. He had no right to tell her to wait for him because he could never be free.

His heartbeat however belonged to her for a while now, beating at the thought of her smile, her eyes, her voice. Hurting at the hearing of her hardships and the hidden sadness and insecurities that she kept imprisoned behind her waves of laughter.

It was not like she had never tried to be insincere with him, but even if she would try, her eyes were an open book to him. As if he was the only one that was able to break through any barrier of hers and open the door of her heart just by looking at her.

He had thought that it might have been because of the abilities he carries as the son of the sun, however, that thought collapsed when he understood that she could do the same when it came to him. He was as an open book as she was to him and that made him believe that they were meant to be...connected.

"I should go, it's getting dark," Sofia told him, disrupting their small chat and getting up from the grass that was beneath them.

"Wait." He had stopped her as his hand had grabbed her wrist, marking the first time he was coming in any contact with her flesh.

A wave of electricity hit them both at the contact, making them pull apart quickly. Only for their eyes to scan each other' in surprise soon after.

"My apologies .. Emm," Jungkook uttered as his cheeks started getting painted in a faded scarlet.

"It is fine. What did you want?" Sofia asked, her eyes now avoiding his as her heartbeat was increasing.

Their feelings were mutual.

Jungkook stared at her for a while, not knowing what to say or how to say it. So many things were running through his head and many felt trapped inside his body. Too many for him to put into words, too strong to be conveyed with the letters of any alphabet.

Unable to find a solution, he left his actions to speak instead, taking a step closer to her while his eyes were fondly gazing at her.

He smiled, observing her that didn't distance herself from him. His hand reached up to her face and let his fingers trail down the skin of her cheek softly, only for her eyes to close at the heartwarming contact.

"Sofia" His sweet voice lingered on her ears, as she opened her eyes slightly, to see him.

His warm eyes looked at her as if she was the goddess of his entity, the queen of his heart, and the ruler of his emotions.

"I love you." He whispered, his smile growing as his hand cupped her cheek, his face not daring to move any closer out of fear that he would insult her in any way.

But she made that step herself, her lips touching his softly, opening to him a whole new world.

Sofia had never thought she would be capable of doing something like that, as getting into any physical contact with anyone was not her cup of tea, much more if it was with a male - that according to her were not worth trust usually- however Jungkook was different and she felt that, from the first day she looked at those pure eyes of his.

"I will see you tomorrow" Was all she said after she broke the light contact of their lips and ran off, leaving him standing there. His head tilted towards the night sky, smiling brightly as if he was gazing at the invisible sun.

Sofia was walking to her destination which was none other than her father's boat as her mind was occupied with thoughts of Jungkook before a conversation -right outside an infamous gathering place that she had to pass by from- reached her ears.

Two men, at the gates of that late entertainment place, had just mentioned Jungkook's name, drawing her attention.

As the lady that she was, she was thankfully not dressed in any formal gown but had some simple clothes on instead and her long black coat that she immediately pulled the hoody off above her head, to hide her long black locks.

".. They have to kill him by tomorrow." The next sentence that reached her ears shook her heart, her feet slowing down in an attempt to overhear some more.

"They are already in the temple." The other guy whispered to his friends, causing her eyes to go wide and her feet to quicken till she reached an alley and after turning around at the corner, her feet started running as quickly as she could to the temple.

The thought that he was in danger, was making her sense of logic disappear and her feet desperately speed up, even when her body was on the verge of breaking down.

She arrived breathlessly at the white marble stairs of the temple that as a female she has not allowed to go past a certain place, but at that moment that information was something that didn't even cross her mind, and even if it had she would have dismissed it, cause she had to find Jungkook.

She stormed inside, her loud footsteps echoing on the sacred ground as her voice started calling his name in despair till a certain pair of hands, got grip on her and pulled her onto the ground, covering her mouth with one of his hands.

She struggled under the body of the unknown man but soon two others joined him, keeping her pinned on the floor.

Her hoody had fallen off, leaving her locks to display and exposing her female identity, and the sight had the men's eyes widening at the realization.

"Get away from her!" A voice suddenly shouted making the men look in the direction that it came, further reinforcing their realization that the man that was supposed to be tagged on the floor instead and ready to be killed, was far from the captive they had planned to get rid of.

All those men wanted to do was put an end to him. So the temple would be left with no guardian and the treasure of the sun would become theirs.

Jungkook stormed off towards them, soon grabbing the man that was above her and punching him. The two other men hadn't taken long to attack him, a fight breaking out, as Sofia managed to get up and look around for any object that could possibly help him.

However she had failed to notice that the group of men did not consist of three as she thought but five, the other two being the ones that she had overhead and had followed her after noticing her for they had grown afraid that she had heard them. Now they had to silence her and that was what they were about to do.

She didn't even realize when was it that pain had struck her back, a knife having made its way through her ribs, causing her to yell in pain.

Jungkook's eyes shot in her direction in shock, and after taking in the sight of her collapsing on the floor, his once pure eyes got clouded with anger.

He approached the two men, while one of the ones that he had left behind, jumped on his back to hold him, however, he no longer could feel him or anything. He tossed him aside as if he was a light feather, soon grabbing the one that had stabbed her by his neck and crashing him against the wall. Jungkook's hold got tighter and tighter, making the air in the lungs of the man slowly disappear.

He felt a pain in his arm muscles as someone had stabbed him trying to stop him, and all he did was take that knife with his free hand and stab it right in the chest of the next one that was running towards him with a dagger on his hands.

The white sacred marbled floor was no longer white as it had in a matter of minutes gotten stained with the blood of five men that found themselves soon lying lifeless on the ground and Sofia's blood that was watching all the scenes, speechless.

When Jungkook turned his gaze at her, his white clothes were stained with blood the same way his two soft hands were. A pair of hands that had done nothing but kind gestures till that moment. A pair of hands that belonged to a human with the purest of souls and minds. A human that was no longer that.

He approached her, his darkened eyes, shifting to soft as he looked at her bleeding to death.

"No." Was all he murmured as his voice cracked at the single word while his eyes got filled with tears.

"I am sorry. Jungkook you-"Sofia touched his hand, stopping herself from saying the words that were linking on her tongue as she wasn't sure if he had realized what he had done yet.

" Don't die. Don't leave. Please. "Was all he said, hugging her tightly and at that moment Sofia understood that he probably hadn't realized yet.

" I won't die. I want to stay with you. "She responded, her voice fading as her strength was, while her blood continued flowing out of her body.

They stayed in silence before he picked her up and started walking down the corridors, till he arrived at the main hall where the holy flame was placed.

He approached it, with a half-conscious Sofia in his two arms, then kneeled before it, tears still streaming down his cheeks.

A soft prayer started leaving his lips while his body was trembling, till Sofia's bloody hand reached his chest.

"I love you too," She said, her eyes closed so she wasn't able to see his that got widened at her statement and then became soft and full of adoration and love.

"Shall we meet again then? Again and again, until we find a life that we can be together?" His voice reached her ears before feeling his hand grabbing hers and intertwining their fingers, making her a promise.

"I will never forget. I will always find you. I will always come to your life till the day that I would be able to stay." She managed to tell him, before leaving her last breath on his arms.

The sobs of the man that was holding her were heartbreaking, enough for the flame to flicker. His beloved father giving to his son what he wished for.

It was not going to be easy however if their love was true they were bound to never give up, till that promising day arrived.
