Chapter One: and the fun begins
Nathaniel Hayes. Everyone on the island knew him as the poster boy of their community. He never gets in trouble, has perfect grades, doesn't do drugs, and never hangs out with Pogues. It's not that he doesn't want to. Honestly, he just doesn't hang out with anyone at all. Usually it's just him, his books, and his sister, but only when she's home from college. His mom, being quite controlling, never let Nathan do anything that could look bad on her.
Her rules were strict. No sleeping over. No friends in the house. No parties. No going out past 7. And on and on. Nathan just decided a long time ago that he wasn't going to even try making friends. He didn't see the point if he wasn't going to be allowed to have any fun with them. Plus everyone his age was too afraid to hang out with him, thinking he would snitch to his mom who was the mayor.
His life is pretty sad to an outsider's eyes, but Nathan got used to it. He started liking his somewhat hermit lifestyle. His books kept him enough company. Well, that was until a two days ago, when things started to change.

Nathan woke up from his dreamless sleep to the sound of breakfast being made. He reached for the phone beside him on the nightstand to check the time.
6:15 am
Nathan groaned. Slumping his head back down onto the pillow. He didn't understand why his mom insisted on making breakfast so early. He was convinced she did it just to annoy the hell out of her children.
Nathan stayed in bed for as long as he could, but his sister barged into his room before he could fall back to sleep.
"Get the hell up, Nate! Mom's been calling you for the past five minutes." Katelynn practically yelled. Maybe he had fallen asleep but wasn't aware of it.
"It's too early to be so loud!" He whined. Katelynn just rolled her eyes and left the room, making sure to leave the door open so he could get his lazy ass up.
Nathan groaned again and shuffled of his bed to close the door and get ready for his day.
When he finally came down the stairs. The smell of French toast filled the air around him and his stomach growled in response.
"Well look who finally got up for breakfast." His mom beamed.
"Morning, mom." Nathan said pecking his mom's cheek. "This smells wonderful." He smiles as he sits and reached for a fork. French Toast was his favorite.
"The real question is, does it taste wonderful?" She asked and Nathan answered with a mouthful of French toast and nod of his head. Elizabeth giggled. "So what's the plan for today?" She asked her two children.
" I'm having lunch with Rafe at 1:00." Katelynn said after swallowing her food.
Elizabeth wiggles her eyebrows. "Is this a date?" She smirked.
"No, mom. It's not. I told you already, we're just friends."
"Well if I were you, I'd give it a shot before it's too late. He's a nice boy, Kate." Elizabeth has been trying to set Katelynn up with Rafe since they were kids. They ended up becoming best friends instead. Honestly, Nathan saw the chemistry between the two, but for the past year, Rafe had become a major dick. Katelynn deserved better.
"I think I'll live." Katelynn laughs. Elizabeth just rolls her eyes and turns to her son.
"What about you, Nate? What are your plans?"
"Probably just gonna go to the beach and read." He responded.
"No surprise there." Katelynn mumbled. Nathan flicked her forehead in response. "Ow! You little..."
"No cursing!" Elizabeth cut in. Katelynn closed her mouth and rolled her eyes.
"Yeah yeah."
"But, your sister does have a point, Nate. You should do something else with your time that isn't reading. At least for today."
Nathan looks down at his phone and looks back up at his mom. "I'll consider it." And they finished their food with idle conversation. Nathan, however, was a bit more quiet than usual. His mind was currently at two days ago.
Nathan had been doing what he did everyday; Reading. He was reading at his usual spot at the beach when someone he didn't really talk to walked up to him. JJ Maybank.
"Don't you ever get tired of reading?" He said flicking the book in Nathan's hand.
"Not really. No." Nathan responds not taking his eyes off of the book in front of him.
" Well if you ever decide to actually have some fun, you should give me a call." JJ chuckles and turns around.
"Will do." Nathan retorts sarcastically.
It was a brief moment, but for some reason Nathan couldn't stop thinking about it.
The only times he and JJ talked were at school. They were science partners last year, hence why Nathan has his phone number. Honestly, the dude annoyed the hell out of Nathan. All JJ did in that class was talk to John B and leave Nathan to do the assignments on his own. Usually Nathan wouldn't be bothered, but the fact that JJ and John B's incessant talking distracted Nathan from doing his work was enough to make his blood boil. This is why Nathan was confused. "How could I even be thinking about taking JJ up on his offer?" He thought.
Now in his room, Nathan takes out his phone from his shorts and opens up JJ's contact.
His finger hovers over the call button, but he changes his mind and presses text message instead.
Nathan couldn't believe what he was doing. He didn't even know what he was going to say.
He settled for a brief,
Hey
And closed his phone.
He throws himself on his bed as a million things suddenly storm his mind. What if he was just being nice? What if he was just playing some joke? What if he just felt sorry for me? What if he didn't actually want me to contact him?
After a few minutes of panicking he feels a buzz come from his phone that was laying on his chest. He lifts it and see a notification pop up.
Heyy, you finally ready to have some fun?
Nathan sighed in relief and smiled. "Maybe I AM ready to have some fun." He thought. And smiles again.
Okay, I'm sooo excited to be starting this fic. I have so many ideas and I can't wait to write this love story. Sorry this was so short, but I thought it was the perfect ending. Hope you guys enjoyed anyways! Byeeee!!!!
