Chapter 7

Toby felt furious, the intensity of his rage had triggered his Tourette's and his ticking and twitching had become erratic. His entire body was shaking, he felt full of a strange energy. To be honest with himself, the twitching boy wasn't even entire sure why he was so mad. Trying to think about it, Toby could only think about his father, was it because he was an asshole? Because he understands (Y/N)'s pain right now? He felt... Empathy...? He had pictured the girl's father as his own the moment he saw him...

The boy growled, whatever the reason, he was going to deal with this. He sent a message of thanks to Slenderman mentally, telling him he will owe his boss even more after he was done. Slender didn't respond, he had disappeared from Toby's mind, and it left the boy wondering if he was possibly mad.

This wasn't even a part of Toby's mission; he was admittedly going rogue. Was that Slender's problem? Having Toby stray from his goal to take care of something personal? Either way, Toby sent another thanks. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he just ignored this. It would eat him up inside, and he hoped his boss would understand that.

The boy snuck around the side of the house, as quietly as a ticking male could. He heard a door open, slam close. (Y/N)'s father was leaving huh? A twisted smile pulled at Toby's lip, and he edged around the corner, spotting the taller man locking the front door. He couldn't help but growl, like an animal on the hunt, before darting towards the sleek black car parked in the driveway.

Okay, how was he going to do this? Toby leant against the car, pulling his mask from his face to catch a breath. The setting sun was low enough to not affect his skin, something he was grateful for. He heard the footsteps from the older man as he headed over to the car, and Toby got an idea. Reaching into his pocket, he fished out a few matches. This was going to be fun.

Turning to the car, the boy was in luck. The fuel cap was right in front of his face. His twisted smile grew as he forced the cap open with a hatchet, striking a match. The car started. Toby didn't react. In fact, he only chuckled as he tossed the lit match into the running car, completely forgetting he should be hightailing it out of there. He slammed the cap closed as soon as he had thrown the match, attempting to at least jump away from the car. As it lit, the boy felt a clawed hand on his shoulder, and was teleported away, into the tree line near the house. His clothes felt warm from the flames, but the cool breeze calmed his heavy breathing. That was close.

"Th-Tha...ank you..." He mumbled into the air.

-Next time don't be so rash. And remember that you're my Proxy- Was all Slenderman offered to say. Toby was confused, it sounded like a warning, but he nodded to himself and hurried back to the house to see the damage. He hid behind a sign not too far from the house, sure he was out of sight.

The car was fully on fire now, smoke rising into the sky. It had lit so quickly, so perfectly, that the boy could see a burning figure in the front of the car, it was at first struggling, thrashing around, the flames making it look like a funny dance as (Y/N)'s father tried to get out of the burning vehicle. But eventually the heat got to him, and the body stopped moving, sitting there in the driver's seat.

A feeling of satisfaction took over Toby upon seeing the burnt corpse still, now that the asshole is gone, he won't be able to hurt anyone every again. He won't be able to hurt (Y/N).

The front door opened, and the girl and the rest of her family ran outside to see the carnage. In fact, others from neighbouring houses had come out as well, one was on the phone. Toby saw (Y/N)'s mother staring at the car, falling to her knees and crying. Her brother just stood there, completely shocked. He checked on the girl, before going to comfort their mother.

(Y/N) on the other hand, was just staring at the car, her hands up to her face as if she was unsure about something. Toby could have sworn he saw her smile. Her smile widened, before it turned to laughter. Complete, sheer insane laughter. She doubled over, holding her stomach as if she was in pain. Had something snapped inside of her?

-Come Toby, we should leave now- Slenderman said in his mind.

Toby nodded, though his eyes lingered on the girl. She collapsed next to her mother, who glanced at her in horror. The boy already knew what was going through her mind. How could (Y/N) be laughing right now? At her father's death? Toby knew why. Toby understood.

He wanted to stay and watch, to see the aftermath, but not much else happened. Someone came over and took (Y/N) by the shoulder's pulled her into a hug, and slowly her laughter died away, she became calm again, and the boy saw the person talking to her mother. The two nodded slowly, as if coming to an agreement, before they said something to her bother.

Ethan nodded as well, before walking over and giving his sister a hug. He said something to her, before leading the girl inside. Toby frowned, he wanted to know what was going on. He took a step forward, but felt the nausea take over, knowing his boss was stopping him.

Red and blue lights started flashing in the distance, a siren rung out into the silence, blocking out the sound of the cackling fire that slowly burned down. He knew he had to go, but Toby only wanted to stay, he wanted to see what would happen next. What was (Y/N) thinking right now? Was she relieved to have her father out of her life? Or was she trapped in the illusion of family, mourning the loss of the one that harmed her?

The girl stopped just outside the front door, her brother glancing at her. She smiled at him and said something, causing him to tilt his head, before walk away and back to the fray. The girl stood in the doorway, as if contemplating something.

And then she looked up.

Toby cursed to himself, stumbled back behind the sign. Did she see him? She totally saw him. He growled to himself, hitting his head against the sign.

-Stop that. You'll just alert her more- Slender said sternly.

"S-S-SSSSorrry..." Toby stuttered out.

-Now let's go, that was a close enough call for today. Your mission is now over-

"Ri-ight..." Toby nodded, letting out a sigh. He peaked out from the sign, (Y/N) was now gone, inside. The firefighters had arrived, was putting out the fire. A police car was driving down the street.

Toby stared for a moment, once again grinning at his carnage, happy to know the man suffered in his final moments, wondered if he regretted what he did to (Y/N).

-Toby. Now- The boy's boss snapped.

"Yeah y-yeahh..." The boy huffed, though the feeling of exhilaration was running through his whole body, "I-I'm co-coming..."

-Good, now let us just hope this mess is over with. I don't want you coming back here- His boss almost growled, and Toby couldn't help but wonder if his boss was annoyed about something, possibly even jealous.

-Don't even think so lowly of me- Slender did growl this time.

Toby chuckled to himself, once again glancing back at the house. This time he saw (Y/N) in the window, such a small frame from so far away, staring right at him.
