Chapter 4
It didn't take long for Toby to make his way back to (Y/N)'s house. After crawling around the side of the house, he found himself back outside the window of her room, she was once again sitting in front of her laptop, reading and writing away.
A glance around the room showed the boy that she had started collecting notes again, however this wasn't as bad as the first time he was sent here. Some of the papers didn't even have words on them, but instead had Slenderman's operator symbol scribbled in a mess. It looked like one of the few stages of Slender's stalking, meaning his boss is also taking this job personally.
Toby huffed to himself, knowing exactly how that had felt at first. The endless paranoia of being watched, uncontrollable scribbling, the nausea. She didn't look too affected though, which seemed to relax the boy in the window. Shrugging it off, he turned his attention back to her.
Watching her working was interesting, while also inspiring. She was in such a zone she couldn't even sense that she was being watched.
And then a word popped up in black and red cursive on her laptop screen.
'PROXY'
Toby blinked, his head ticking to the side in curiosity. She was reading about him now? About his two co-workers? He frowned slightly, seeing the operator symbol in the 'O' of the word. How had she even heard of them? Did she stumble across the word during her research?
Either way, she looked invested in whatever this page was about.
A shiver ran up Toby's spine, and he shook his head in annoyance. A warning from Slender to get back on track and focus on his mission. As if he could do anything, this girl showed no signs of leaving the room any time soon.
Something moving on her bed then caught Toby's attention. Harry was curled up, but his tail was wagging and he slowly lifted his head to the window, giving a small gruff in Toby's direction. (Y/N) startled out of her reading, and turned back to the golden retriever, a smile on her face.
"Easy Harry." She said giving the pupper a pat on the head, "I'll feed you soon okay? I'm nearly done with this article."
Toby's lips pulled up to form a lop-sided smirk under his mask. That would be enough time to get to work. Until a door slammed somewhere else in the house, and (Y/N) was suddenly on high alert. She quickly closed her laptop screen and jumped into bed, pulling the blanket over both Harry and herself. The boy in the window tilted his head in confusion.
She grabbed a novel just as her door opened, and her father walked into the room. (Y/N) looked up from the book, as if he had just interrupted the girl from an interesting story. However her look of annoyance disappointed under her father's irritated gaze.
"I hope you haven't been on your laptop again today." He said, glancing around the room. Toby ducked under the window frame, hopefully the older man didn't see him.
"No." He heard the girl say, "I was actually reading."
"What's the story about then?" Her father pestered.
"Vampires." Her response was quick, but unsure; as if she hadn't even checked the cover of the novel.
Toby glanced back into the window, keeping in mind to stay out of sight. He saw the father huff, before he turned to (Y/N)'s desk and pressed his hand against the lid of the rectangular device. He shot a glare towards his daughter, simply tucking his hands behind his back.
"You think you can lie to me? You aren't good at anything." He said in a low growl, "Do you really think I'm that stupid? Did you think you'd be able to trick me so easily?"
The girl only kept to her bed, wrapping her arm around her dog silently as her father started to rant. Harry tucked his head under her arm.
"You are such a disobedient child. I thought we would have raised you better." Her father continued, "How did we raise a liar? How did we raise such a horrible person?"
Anger started to stir in Toby's chest once again, listening to everything this asshole said. What kind of father says this stuff about his own child? He'd asked the question before, but he still had no answer. Seeing (Y/N) unable to stand up for herself as her father belittled her.
He knew nothing about this girl, and yet he felt like he knew her. He knew everything this old man was saying was false.
"You're lucky you even have a laptop." Her father then walked to her door, "If it wasn't a school requirement, I would have never allowed you to have one. Technology is ruining society. If I could, I'd get my money back on such a waste of space."
The girl seemed to flinch at that last part, had she heard something similar before? It was clear his comment was towards the laptop, yet the words seemed to sting her as he walked out, slamming the door in a rage.
(Y/N) jumped as he left, before sitting up and hugging Harry close to her. Toby could see her shoulders shaking, and no shiver down his spine could stop him from sneaking around the edge of the house.
He stopped once he saw (Y/N)'s father walk outside, and into the garage. The boy chuckled to himself, feeling his body twitching with anticipation.
-Toby. Focus- Slender's voice snapped in his mind, he too sounded agitated, -You aren't here to kill. You're here to remove any evidence of our existence-
Toby only ignored him, sneaking to the garage door, he hid around the side, listening to the sound of mumbling coming from inside. His head started to spin, and his stomach lurched. Dammit Slenderman.
He was about to enter the garage, but his head started pounding, and he fell to the ground. The world was spinning, and his ticking felt out of control. The boy leant against the side of the garage, panting heavily.
He just wanted to kill. It had felt like forever since he killed.
-You killed two days ago- Slender's voice was loud in his head, he closed his eyes in response, -Now focus on your mission, or do I need to send the other two to help?-
"F-F-Fine..." Toby gritted his teeth, and all unpleasantries left his body.
He let out a sigh, sagging against the tin-metal wall and catching his breath. The anger seemed to have disappeared along with the dizziness. Toby leant his head back against the wall, eyes closed as he caught his breath back.
-Once you're back on your feet, I expect this to be done quickly. Understood?- Slender demanded.
"Y-Yess Boss..." He said, scratching his head through his hood, before he got back to his feet.
Taking in the area, Toby then hurried back to (Y/N)'s room. However; he was surprised to see it was empty. Neither the girl, nor the dog were there. The boy gave a small 'Yes' of triumph, she must have gone to feed Harry. Which gave him plenty of time to remove any and all notes and drawings.
So he got to work, ripping paper off the walls and stuffing them into his jumper pocket. There wasn't as much this time, so he could handle holding scrunched paper in his pocket. However he stopped when he took down a large scribble.
It read 'PROXY' in large, messily sketched letters, once again that operator symbol through the 'O'. The boy stared at it for a moment, before deciding to leave it on her bed. He could feel the confusion from Slender, and he hoped the girl would get the message to stop.
Especially after he got rid of this laptop.
It was light when he picked it up, still warm from use. The heat soaked into his gloves, and a feeling of doubt entered his mind. Was this the right thing to do? He knew he had to do it, but he couldn't help but wonder what (Y/N)'s father would do if he saw the broken laptop.
The boy shook his head, he couldn't think about that. It was none of his concern what happened in this house, as much as it had eaten at him the past week.
With a quick breath, he raised the laptop over his head, and smashed it into the floor. It almost shattered, the top screen nearly separating completely from the bottom. The screen turned on, however have a glitched screen of pinks, greens and whites as the glass surrounded it. Some of the keys even lit up, but only a select few.
Toby found it almost poetic that the 'T', 'O', 'B', and 'Y' had all stayed lit up. Along with other letters of course, but seeing his name glowing in the dim room... It was as good a message as any, even if (Y/N) didn't see it.
After finishing his cleansing, the boy climbed out the window and closed it slowly, though he couldn't stop thinking about what was going to happen now.
"H-H-Hey Boss..." He mumbled to himself, "I-I sho-ould stay an-nd watch... In-In case she tries to re-research some oth-other way..."
-That's a good idea...- Slender had a hint of accusation to his tone, however Toby saw his agreeing as an absolute win, -But stay out of sight, don't do anything stupid-
"G-Got it..."
