Chapter 18

I lay on my cot, holding myself and keeping my knees to my chest. The feeling of billions of unborn babies being murdered in my hands still lingering. The image of me wearing strange clothing still before me and the streak of gray now in my hair. What was happening to me?

"You're highness..." Nature breathed.

"Leave me alone," I sniffed, "I don't want to talk right now!"

"We are only trying to help..." Time spoke.

"Well, I didn't ask for your help!" I snapped. "I didn't ask for any of this!"

"We didn't say you did..." Nature soothed. "We only want Natas brought down..."

"But what about my friends!?" I sat up. "If this keeps up, I might not only lose myself to Bás, but everyone else!"

"Isn't that a risk you're willing to make for the world?" Time asked.

"No, it's not!" I shot. "I'd rather let the word end than have my friends blood on my hands!"

"But, either way they will die a horrible tragic death..." Nature pointed out.

I tried my best, but the tears just streamed out and I let out a wail. I buried my head into the cot and sobbed like a child. How could anyone put this burden on me? I can't choose between the world and losing my friends, or losing everything I've known and killing my friends.

I heard footsteps and people arguing, nearing the cave I was in. I kept my face to the cot, not wanting to even look at anyone at the moment.

Savannah's voice began to be heard along with that one kid, Larry's voice, in the cave. The sounds suddenly stopped as they came in. More footsteps followed and stopped as they came into the cave with the two blondes.

"Kylen?" Savannah spoke softly, her footsteps nearing over and getting to her knees. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"

"Maybe she's not crying," Larry spoke, walking over to sit at the other side of the cot. "Maybe she's just really, really tired-yeah she's definitely crying." he said as I raised my head to glare at him through my foggy, cracked glasses.

"What's wrong?" Nick asked walking over.

"I... I'm just not cut out to save anyone!" I explained through sobs. "All my life everyone's relied on me for everything. I've always been on my own to do things, I couldn't do... I thought obtaining that staff would help me solve everything on my own... But, no... Bás is beginning to take me over and there's nothing I can do... I'm failing everyone..."

"But, you're not alone," Savannah put her hand on my back, "I'll help you..."

"So will I." Larry agreed.

"We're behind you every step of the way..." Amoy said.

I looked over to the staff, tightening my grip on the cot as I glared at it shine. An idea soon came to my head. We couldn't stay down here forever and who knows when Natas would find us. We needed to make an escape rout in case of emergencies. I shot off my cot and snatched the staff. It glowed red and I felt its powers scorch me from the inside.

"Amoy, come here, I need your hands!" I demanded.

"What? Wh-" Amoy started.

"Now!"

She walked over and held out her hands. I thought hard of what I wanted and rested the staff's orb in her palms. It glowed brightly and the light wrapped itself around my friend's hands.

When the light died out, I drew the staff back and Amoy looked at her hand with wide eyes.

"You should have the power to heal now..." I breathed, my head hurting, but doing my best to keep Bás at bay. I then looked to Nick and pointed the staff at him. The staff glowed before shooting a beam at him. His arms shone in the cave, he lifted them up, crossed them across his chest, and pulled them away. His hands were covered by metal gloves. "You can use that to make tunnels, we need escape routs just in case Natas finds us..." I staggered on my feet, putting my hand on my head.

"What about me?" Savannah walked up. I tried thinking of something, but my head still hurt like holy Hell.

Don't strain yourself... A sweet, calming voice told me. I looked around wondering who that was, but I decided to stop thinking of powers to give.

"Later... I'm exhausted..." I groaned, making my way back to the cot. "Tell... Tell Darien that... We should go on a search patrol after we've rested..." I laid down and set my staff down, trying to ignore the pain in my brain.
