Chapter 12

"Kylen..." a voice echoed in my head. "Wake up, your highness..." it was a woman's voice. "You're alright... Wake up..." my head hurt and I felt sick. "Wake up!"

I jolted upright on a sleeping bag to see I was in a cave. I could hear murmurs of the others outside to the main cave. I looked down and was relieved to see my staff was still by my side. I sighed as I laid back down and looked up at the ceiling.

Without turning my head, I looked over to see a man and woman sitting on their knees near me. They were completely white and their eye sockets were nothing but blank whiteness.

I looked back at the ceiling again, not caring for a moment strangers were staring at me. I blinked. Then jolted off the bed, hitting my body against the stone wall, letting out a yelp. The two people just looked up at me with their odd eyes.

"Who... Who are you two!?" I cried out, clutching the staff tightly in my hand.

Both stood up before bowing their upper bodies to me.

"Good day, mistress Kylen," the woman spoke, "I am Mother Nature."

"And I am Father Time." the man followed.

"Mother Nature and Father Time..." I eyed them suspiciously. "Really? Now I know I'm losing my mind..."

"No." Father Time put. "You are quite sane... At least... For a while."

"And what the hell's that supposed to mean?" I asked, slightly irritated.

"Natas grows stronger each day, your highness," Mother Nature spoke, stepping up, "if he isn't stopped soon you and everyone else could be under his influence."

"Then why don't you, or God, do something about it?" I snapped. "I barely know anything about this stupid staff! Not to mention, I'm just one little girl! One, girl! Barely legal, hormones are starting to grow, and I've got two people in my head that one just wants pay back and the other just kills to kill!"

I panted as I glared at the two as they just stared blankly down at me. I could hear Bás giggling in my head and Kine's soul shivering in fear in my heart. I took a deep breath and slumped loosening the staff.

"Your Highness-" Father Time began.

"And would everyone stop calling me Highness!?" I interrupted, flailing my arms angrily. "My name is Kylen Erin Dooley! I'll accept Kylen, Erin, Dooley, Ky, miss Dooley, or that quiet bitch in class!"

I glared at them until I sensed somebody else in the cave with us. I turned to see Larry holding a bowl of steaming spaghetti in his hands. He looked at me with wide eyes, like I was insane.

"Yeah! I'm the crazy one!" I yelled, making the guy jump. "You know what I think, you're all relying on me to save the world, maybe you're crazy! Did you ever think of that you useless sacks of crazy, crazies!"

Larry just stood there, blinking before looking down. He held up the plate, "I was just told to bring you spaghetti..." he piped up.

I could feel my eye begin to twitch. I stormed over, snatched the stupid food from his hands, and began slurping down the sauce covered noodles after I turned the staff into a fork. I got down on the ground and sat Indian style to eat. Larry looked around before sitting down in front of me. I wondered why he wasn't asking about Nature and Time, standing where I left them.

"So... Uh... Who were you talking to?" he finally asked.

I almost choked on the noodles clumping up in my mouth and gasping at hearing that question. I turned my head to where Mother Nature and Father Time were still standing in plain sight.

"You can't see them!?" I turned back to face Larry and point to where the couple stood.

He looked at me in fright before responding. "No... Who?"

I turned back to them, my heart slamming against my chest.

"You are the only one who can see us, ma'am." Father Time spoke.

"Why?" I snapped, not giving a damn if Larry was still in the cave with us.

"You're the one that was chosen to stop Natas," Nature replied, "we're here to protect you."

"Are you saying this staff can't protect me?" I held up the staff before them.

"It can... But Bás is the main controller of it," Nature spoke, a hint of sympathy in her voice, "she could rebel and kill everyone, not just Natas... And if she does take complete control... There's a chance..."

"What?" I pressed.

"There's a chance you could die..." Time finished.

I dragged my feet out the cave, Time's voice still in my head. Larry was following behind me, he didn't ask about who I was talking to, but he still eyed me with concern. Not for me, but for him.

I wanted to find Kabuto. He was still  here and I wanted to know more of what he could do here.

I could hear everyone whispering about me as I passed them. I had to ignore them to focus on my goal at the moment. I wasn't the main attraction before all this. I was just another face in the crowd. Now I was being talked about all over the place.

"Kylen!" I flinched at the sound of the most annoying voice in the crowd. A boy I knew in tenth grade ran up to me. At first we were good friends, but then he just got weird and creepy. Especially after he found out I was a Scorpio and he was an Aquarius. Don't know what I mean, go look it up. Makes me wanna puke. Anthony was his name.

"Not now, Anthony!" I grumbled storming on to where Darien held his meetings.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"I'm fine," I snapped angrily, "now leave me alone! I'm busy!"

He stopped following me and I could feel relief come over me, but I was still tense. Larry quickened his pace to walk beside me. Mother Nature and Father Time were floating, literally, right behind me.

"Don't you think you were a little harsh?" Larry asked me.

"Shut up," I responded, "I don't have time to be worried about and comfort people! Nothing is making sense anymore!"

"I guess I can't disagree with you on that..." Larry mumbled, looking away.

When I finally reached the ledge where Darien addressed everyone, I saw Kabuto talking to Darien, Nick, Luke, and Savannah.

"Kylen!" Savannah cried out as I walked up. She ran over and hugged me. I only put the hand that didn't hold the staff on her back and made my way to Kabuto.

"Why else are you here?" I asked.

"Your Highness," Mother Nature spoke, "don't you think you should rest a little more."

"Shut up," I told her over my shoulder.

"Excuse me?" Kabuto narrowed his eyes at me.

"You seriously can't see them either?" I pointed over my shoulder to where Father Time and Mother Nature floated.

"Who?" Kabuto stood, looking over me.

"You're the only one who can see us." Father Time reminded me.

"I don't want to!" I snapped at him.

"Your Highness," Kabuto grabbed me by the shoulders and made me face him, "the other reason why I'm here is because I'm going to help you control your new powers, like that staff. It's obviously messing with your head."

I looked at the staff and I could feel Bás giggling her annoying laugh. I tightened my grip on the red metal. I looked back to Kabuto and nodded.

"Fine." I grumbled.

"Good." Kabuto nodded. "We'll begin after everyone has rested."

I growled in my throat as Kabuto sat back down with the others. I still had problems that needed to be solved. I didn't try to remember too hard, but I still thought about something that happened. One thing had to do with Natas. Another dealt with the dream I had about Pokie and Muffin.

"Wait," I finally spoke. Kabuto sighed and looked back at me. "Before I saw Pokie and Muffin in a dream... I saw a boy. Like a little ten or nine year old boy."

Kabuto's green eyes widened slightly. He looked down for a moment before looking back. "Yes?"

"He ran off to a door, but..." I trailed off, my heart aching already. Was this boy connected to Kine? "but I was terrified that he was running away from me and he wasn't coming back... I know Kine had a son that was stolen... Was... It her son?"

"No." Kabuto put flatly, looking away from me. "He's not. Her son became something else. I... I have no idea who that boy could be. Just go to sleep and we'll train tomorrow."

It felt like my world had crumpled. Why did I care so much for a kid I never met. Maybe he had something to do with Bás. But my head didn't hurt, just my heart. I looked to Mother Nature and Father Time, but all they did was look to one another and lower their heads to me sympathetically. Why wouldn't anyone tell me about him. It seemed they knew, but they weren't going to tell me.

"Come on, Ky," Savannah gingerly took my arm, "let's go talk to your other friends. You said there was an Amoy and Kay right? Come on!"

I dragged my feet as Savannah lead me away from the guys. Time and Nature floating behind me. I kept the tears from falling, but after thinking about the boy, another thought occurred to me. Natas raped everyone. That meant. The girls!
