Prologue
Warning: Slow updates, at least slower than ThunderClan Falls.
It had been a long and slow recovery process. Going from four feline paws to two human feet was certainly a shift. It didn't help that both of the twins's bodies had been practically dead for the past two weeks.
Funny. How almost fifteen months in one world had added up to only two weeks in another. It was all for the better, of course. Dipper's still adjusting body was already running him straight into walls. He didn't want to know what it'd be doing if it remained uninhabited for a year and a half.
It was nice to see them again. Wendy. Soos. Heck, even Toby Determined. (Well, maybe not see, in his case, but hear from, at least.) . It was nice to see themselves again, too. It was nice to look down into the still and silent water of the lake or of a puddle and not see an unfamiliar face peer back. They were pale, and tired, and scrawny, but they were human.
Even so, Mabel missed them. ThunderClan. Dewpaw, in particular. Dipper didn't. He had been too focused on Bill to pay them much attention. Throughout the journey, he'd held on to the idea that they were just cats. They were soulless, he told himself. Even after being confronted with the idea of StarClan, the idea that they did in fact have souls, he didn't consider them of too much value. It didn't matter that they could speak. It didn't matter that, at times, Dipper wanted to listen. It didn't matter because they were only cats.
Mabel made it clear that she disagreed. She drew them. She drew them all. Every cat she remembered from every Clan she had met. She said that, if Bill ever were to return, she'd ask him to deliver them for her. Dipper reminded her that he'd been banished. Then he reminded her that she was being ridiculous, and that it was stupid of her to let her heart and mind linger in a dimension that was not her own.
She'd seemed hurt. But Dipper didn't let it bother him.
Maybe he'd grown stronger.
After all, he didn't seem to regret anything anymore...
Two moons. Two moons since the Two had left. Two moons since Dewnose had last seen her. Two moons since he'd cheered her name at her warriors ceremony. Two moons since he'd been completely content with his life.
But she was happy. Wasn't she? Didn't she say she was going home? She'd be happy at "home." What more could he ask for, really?
...Why wasn't ThunderClan "home"? It was his home. But it didn't feel like home. Home is where the heart is. But Dewnose couldn't feel his heart. There was a dull ache where a contented happiness had once resided.
He was being sappy again. She'd liked that. She'd said it was sweet that he had a heart, and that it was brave of him to display it like that. Well, he didn't seem to have a heart to display anymore.
Did that mean he wasn't brave?
He wasn't sure.
Okay, welcome back to anyone who is actually dedicated enough to come back for part two! I'm surprised, honestly. I've read stories like mine before. You read it, you reach the end, you think, 'wow, abrupt ending, and really drawn-on story,' and then you notice that there's a sequel.
And all you want to do is groan for the rest of your life.
So, seriously, I'm surprised. I applaud and thank you.
Also, note to any newcomers, this is in fact a sequel! Before reading this, kindly ready ThunderClan Falls, the first book.
Or don't. Be productive, maybe do some schoolwork..
NAH.
