FIFTY FOUR- The Key (Prt. 2)
"I'd be lying if I said I ain't lonely." - Kevin Gates
JESSICA
I'm so excited right now. We're around the corner from the mansion I once lived in. Yes, we're finally in California. I said I'd go back for my stuff later. I woke everybody up thirty minutes after he gave me the key and we left. I can't quit smiling right now. It feels good to know I'm literally around the corner from my kids.
"What the hell?" I mumble as we pull up to the house. None of the cars are here and my roses I had growing in the front are gone. Something just doesn't seem right about the house. "Drive to the gate." I tell Montana. He drives up to it. I get out then put the code in. "Hey, what are you doing here?" an old, white man yells at us as he opens the gate. "This is my house, what the fuck are you here for?" I ask. "No. This is my house. Aren't you the guy with the curly hair's wife? He lived here with a lot of children." he says. "Wait, so he moved out?" I ask. "Yeah, almost a whole year ago. He put it up for sale. I asked why he wanted to get out of a beautiful house. He said it didn't feel beautiful without the woman he loved and that he couldn't stay anymore. Poor fellow." he says.
I look down, wiping the tears out of my eyes. "Do you have his number?" I ask. "No ma'am." he answers. "Well, thank you." I say, walking back to the truck. "I know you know where they live." I say as Montana drives. "I can't pop up to that nigga house, Jessica. I don't have the patience for the drama that'll come with it." he says. "Speaking of drama, I heard you punched Tae. What the fuck are you punching my son for?" I ask.
"I hardly touched his ass. He was bent all over crying like a female for no reason so I lightly hit him in his chest and told him to straighten up because he was acting too feminine. Jessica, I ain't explaining the way I discipline him. It'll all pay off when you see how well off he is by the time he sixteen." he says. "Discipline and abuse are not the same." I say. "Drop it." he demands. "No, you drop it. I will cut your ass if you punch him again. I play about a lot of things but my kids ain't one of em. I will hurt you before I let you do that again. That boy was hurting yesterday, Montana. He didn't flip like he did for no reason. He was scared you'd hurt him bad so he was looking out for himself. The only reason I didn't stop you yesterday is because what he did was wrong. You need to pull your head from out of your ass and realize what you're doing." I go off.
He looks at me. "I apologize. I would never abuse my son and I'll never abuse my daughter neither. I want the best for my kids, aight? I didn't have nobody to teach me how to be, I molded myself into what I am. I made a lot of mistakes in my life and I'll be damned if I let my kids do the same shit when I can prevent it. I'll try not to be so rough though, alright?" he asks. "You not gone try not to be, you just straight up gone stop being rough with my son. That's all I know." I say. He nods his head then kisses me on my cheek.
"I know where Reign is right now." he says, breaking the silence. "Where?" I ask. "She at the mall with her friends." he answers. "Go there." I say. "You sure?" he asks. I quickly nod my head yes. Hopefully, she'll hear me out.
I take a deep breath as I walk around the mall pushing Dream in her stroller with Tae right beside me. Montana stayed in the truck for safety reasons. "Is that her?" Tae exclaims, pointing at a girl who's sitting in a boy's lap at the food court. "I don't know." I answer, walking over to her. My eyes widen. This is definitely Reign and she's sitting in Jah's lap.
"Get your ass off of this grown ass nigga, Reign." I demand. I know I haven't been around but I'm still her mother and I still don't like his ass. She jumps then covers her mouth with her hand as she stands. "Oh shit... Tae? Jessica?" Jah asks with his mouth wide open. Reign snatches Tae in a hug, crying hard on his shoulder. "I missed you so much." she cries, holding him. "I missed you too." he answers.
"You don't wanna see me?" I ask. She looks at me. "I'm excited to see you, mom. But I just don't understand. Why did you leave us?" she asks, crying as she hugs me tight. "I plan on explaining that to you and the rest later whenever I see them, okay? I didn't wanna leave yall, I promise I didn't." I say. "Montana can't come around daddy and my brothers... he'll get killed. Ma, our whole cartel wants him dead. Like, when granddaddy found out the news, it got really bad. I'm serious, ma, granddad got the whole cartel wanting his head. Plus, other organizations daddy does business with want Montana's head too. The Latins and Colombians want him dead too... he made a lot of enemies with different cartels when he did what he did." she tells me in my ear.
"I don't want that to happen. I need to talk to your dad about that." I say. "Why can't they kill him? They're probably somewhere lurking around the mall. Granddad had some of the cartel lingering around waiting for Montana to step foot in California." she says. "No. I don't want that because I have kids by this man and I don't want them fatherless. I need that hit called off." I say. "I mean... you can try to reason with daddy but he probably won't listen. you got a better chance at talking to him though. Granddaddy Antonio on the other hand... he wants blood and he wants it very bad. The only way the entire thing with our cartel and the other organizations will be called off is if granddaddy Antonio call it off and negotiate with the others. But daddy is his son and he don't play that so I don't know." she says. "Yeah, I know." I mumble, shaking my head.
Montana needs to go back then. Too many people want his head. I want my kids to have their father. I hope this thing don't get extremely ugly. I know shit ain't gone be peaches and cream but damn.
"Where's the baby? Noble said he heard a little baby girl cry when Montana called." she says. I walk over to Tae. "Come on, Tae." I say. He pushes Dream's stroller over here. I lean down then take her out. "Oh my God, she so cute. How old is she? Hey, I'm your sister." Reign says in a baby voice, grabbing her finger. I smile a little as Dream stares at her while squeezing her finger. "She's five months old and her name is Dream." I answer. "She so cute. Can I hold her?" she asks. "Yeah." I say, handing her my baby. "Dang, mommy, she so tiny and soft. I did not think I'd be this excited. She's so cute. Why did yall name her dream?" Reign asks, touching her curly hair. "Montana named her that. You didn't know all of this but I miscarried two of his babies. He was scared she wouldn't make it because of the past. But when she came, he was so happy and he named her Dream because to him it was really like a dream come true. She lived and he wanted a daughter so he was happy." I answer. "That's cute. Dang, she look like daddy." she awkwardly says.
"I don't know. What happened to your face? Why is it so scratched up?" I ask, touching her scratched up face. "I got into a fight. I didn't win but that's okay. I was being rude so I deserved it." she admits. "You need to work on how you treat and talk to people." I say.
"Yeah, I know." she says. I glance over at Jah as he talks to Tae. "So... what you doing with him?" I ask. "Um... well, he just my friend. When everything happened with you leaving, I was real sad and stuff and he would come over and bring me food and hang out with me to make me feel better. But he is just a friend." she says. "So, why were you on his lap?" I ask. "I don't know. It's not like that anymore though. He don't look at me like that and I got over him." she says. "I know you lying. You just turned sixteen and he closer to nineteen. I don't agree with that." I say. She slowly nods her head. "I get it." she says, handing Dream back to me.
"So... what's your plan? You about to go to our new house and see daddy? I say don't do it yet because he looks like a caveman. He has the James Harden facial hair and long hair like Jessie does now. He hasn't been caring about nothing but making sure Amari and Lala are okay." she says. I slowly nod my head. "Daddy liked your hair curly... what did you do to it?" she asks, touching my bone straight hair with the middle part. "Montana like my hair like this so I was like whatever." I say. "I got an idea!" she exclaims. "What is it?" I ask. "You'll see. Tae, get the baby, let's go shop." she says, smiling as she grabs my hand. I can only imagine what's about to happen.

"What you want, Reign?" I ask, putting my head phones in my phone so I can talk to my daughter. "What ya doing?" she exclaims. I pull the phone away then stare at it, shaking my head. I'm irritated.
"Nothing." I lie as I braid the hair above my hair into a plat. I need to shave my shit but I'm bored so I'm braiding it instead.
"I think you should get a haircut and cut that weird facial hair off, clean yourself up, get some money together just in case you go out of town or on an expensive date, go shopping for something sexy, and wear some sexy smelling cologne." she says. I scrunch my nose up. "Hell naw. I'm not going on another blind out. The last time I let Vonte and Adam send me on a blind date, I winded up with a botched titties, psycho hoe who told me she loved me that same night we met. I don't trust yall with hooking me up." I say.
"Daddy, trust me on this one. I swear I found the woman of your dreams. Just please do it for me. I swear you'll be happy again." I say. "It ain't your momma, so she could never be the woman of my dreams and I ain't gone be happy without Jessica. I'm not going, I ain't doing it." I tell her.
"Yes you are." she says. "Am not." I say. "Are too." she says. "I'm grown as fuck. I ain't doing nothing I don't wanna do." I say as I clip the ends of my dick hair braid I just did.
"Daddy, I swear you're gonna love her. She far from the women uncle Vonte and uncle Adam hook you up with. Trust me this one time." she says. "Whatever. I'll see." I say, then hang up
I stand then wash my hands. I shake my head at the picture of Jessica in the picture frame sitting on the sink. I walk back into my bedroom then open my walk in closet. I walk to the back then grab my red, silky dress shirt with the silky red dress pants, my red dress shoes, red top hat, and my pimp cane. This is exactly what I'm wearing and I don't give a fuck about the bitch opinion. I want her to find me unattractive so I'll have an excuse to not wanna fuck with her.
NOBLE
As usual, I'm over Miracle's house today. She won't even talk to me though. "Miracle, I don't have time for this bullshit right now. I'm going through enough shit, my nigga. I ain't finna take this petty shit." I say as I put my shoes on. She being a big ass bitch for no reason. "Nigga, who the hell you talking to? What, you want me to beg your ass to stay? You can leave. Your sister don't fuck with me. I don't have time to be beating nobody ass so maybe we should cut this shit off." she says. I narrow my eyes at her then shove her to the floor face down. "You gone leave my life cause of somebody else actions like everybody else did me? Fuck you!" I yell at her.
She wipes blood from her lip. "Did you really just shove me on the floor and bust my lip?" she growls at me, shaking. "Fuck it look like I did?" I yell at her. I'm so pissed right now. "You know how you told me your daddy blew up on your momma like this? You acting just like your gotdamn father right now and I ain't with that shit!" she yells, throwing punches at me.
I grab her arms then slam her to the bed. "Keep my family out of it." I demand. She shoves me off of her. "Leave. Just go." she demands. I stare at her for a second then shake my head. Once again, I'm losing somebody else I care about. A nigga just want somebody solid. That's why that shit made me mad. That's all I want.
