"what music do you listen to?" Midori asked.
it was three weeks since we first met on the train and we now travelled together everyday.
i fiddled with my earphone cord.
"hmm, mostly math rock and a little bit of jazz."
Midori gave me a sideways glance.
"really?"
i nodded. "what about you, Midori-chan?"
Midori-chan.
it was sweet on the tongue.
she turned to ahead of us
watching the scenery rush by
in a blur.
"i don't really listen to music anymore
not since-"
she looked down at her hands.
"i miss my hometown."
i kept my eyes on my hands too
i thought she might start crying
but she didn't
even though i knew
that she usually displayed her emotions more than
i ever would.
"i never took you for a fan of rock, Sora-chan," she broke the silence.
when i looked up she was smiling
but it didn't quite reach her eyes.
i smiled in return.
well,
often the quietest of people
listen to the loudest music.
the train came to a stop.
[listen above for some good music :). it's a Japanese math rock band called Tricot. if you like them, we are best friends (゜-゜) because i've only ever met one other person who likes their music and i never see him. my favourite song is Slow Line but it's not on Youtube :/. also bands like Toe, THE NOVEMBERS and Keytalk are what i imagine Sora listening to.]
