in front of me stood Midori

holding a leash in her hand.

a large husky was pulling at it,

with a grey dappled coat and pricked up ears.

i bent down to catch my breath as Midori watched me in amusement.

"caught you off guard, Sora-chan?" she laughed, trying to control the dog but dangerously tilting to one side.

i heaved and nodded in reply then straightened up right into the dog's face.

a large tongue swept across my cheek

but it was warm and friendly

i didn't mind.

Zuzu was soft and heavy set, reaching up to my waist.

i smiled but was surprised to see that Midori had a sad expression on her face.

i stood up and pulled out my earphones.

"something wrong?" i asked quietly.

her eyes met mine and the sadness flickered away.

"no," she smiled. "would you like to join us on our walk?"

i glanced at my watch, thinking of the route i had been planning to take.

"sure."

we headed towards the park, Zuzu trotting ahead.
