Prove Them Wrong

"Miguel said that you tried to break the Canon... in order to save your dad and to stop the Spot," Polina said carefully.

She and Miles sat in the lobby. Gwen, Pavitr, Hobie and Jess were on a mission.

"Yeah," Miles said, "it... was crazy." "I can imagine," she replied, "...is your dad okay?"

He smiled, "he's safe. The Spot was captured and contained so... everything's fine."

She looked at him and stared at him for a moment. If everything was fine, then why did things still seem tense? Every where she went, some Spiders looked at her with suspicion and fear. Some of those looks were even sympathy.

And it was starting to irritate and unnerve her.

She leaned against Miles, resting her head on his shoulder. He wrapped an arm around her waist.

"How are you holding up?" He asked. "I'm okay," she said, nuzzling into him.

He glanced at her, his eyebrows furrowing. She had been saying that a lot. He kissed her head and she leaned into his touch, purring.

He chuckled, "didn't know wolf spiders could purr." She playfully glared at him and poked him in the side. He nearly jumped and Polina blinked before she smirked.

"Ohhh no! No!" He said before he jumped away from her, the action causing her to fall onto the sofa. Her smirk widened and she laughed as she started to chase after him.

Miles threw out a web and swung through the air before he landed on another platform and continued running.

"Heeey!" Polina laughed before she swung after him. The two laughed as they ran through the lobby.

The two swung through the air before they landed outside of Miguel's office. The door opened and they poked their heads in.

It was eerily quiet.

The two looked at each other nervously before they walked into the office. They walked down the hallway before they ended up in the larger room.

Polina looked around before she saw Miguel looking over some of the monitors. She tilted her head before she threw out a web and swung up. She landed behind him.

He looked at her, surprised.

"What are you doing?" He asked. "Noothing," she said with a smile.

He raised an eyebrow. He glanced at Miles who was watching them from below. He looked back at Polina and sighed softly. He turned away and looked back at the monitors.

"What are you doing?" Polina asked. "Just looking over some reports," he said. She frowned a little before she climbed up onto his shoulder, surprising him.

He gave her a look.

"Off," he grumbled. "Nnnno," she smiled. He growled softly before he sighed deeply.

"You can stay on my shoulder," he sighed. Polina smiled and she looked at the monitors. Then she saw a screen of a few anomalies. Miles' name was there.

She frowned but didn't say anything. Out the corner of his eye, Miguel glanced at her and sighed softly. "What's on your mind?" He asked.

"Am I an anomaly too?" She asked and he blinked before he looked at her again, this time confused and concerned.

"No. Why would you ask?" He asked, frowning. "Well... you call Miles an anomaly," she replied, fidgeting a little.

"He's different from everyone else," he sighed. Polina frowned a little, "everyone says that."

"Well... everyone's wrong, kid," Miguel sighed. Polina frowned before she got off of his shoulder.

She looked at Miguel with a determined expression. "I don't think you're right," she said firmly. "Miles may be unique, but that doesn't make him an anomaly. And neither does it make me one."

Miguel's eyebrows furrowed as he observed the young girl standing before him. He had always known Polina to be perceptive and strong-willed, much like Miles. But he couldn't deny the nagging doubts that lingered in the back of his mind, fueled by his own experience.

"I've seen things, Polina," he began, his voice tinged with a certain heaviness. "Things that suggest there is more to this world, more than just what we can see or comprehend. And sometimes, when someone doesn't fit into the mold, it unsettles people."

Polina shook her head, her eyes brimming with determination. "Just because we don't fit into some preconceived notion of 'normal' doesn't mean we're anomalies. It means we're unique, special even. We have the power to change things for the better, to make a difference."

Miguel studied her for a moment, contemplating her words.

She was a strange person. Especially for someone who had not only lost their mom but also seemed to have another mom who was a leader of a corrupt organization.

He reached out and gently rubbed her head. She blinked in surprise and looked up at him.

He smiled slightly, "you've certainly got determination, kid. I'll give you that." "Do you always call me and Miles kids just to egg us on or something?" She asked, lightly pushing his hand away as she smiled.

"Well you're the exact age as kids," he replied. She made a noise of protest. "We're teens, you meanie!" She exclaimed.

He rolled his eyes and ruffled her hair. She squeaked and swatted his hand away.

She looked at the screens.

She rubbed her arms. "Can you... tell me some more about anomalies?" She asked shyly. He looked at her in surprise.

She smiled nervously, "y-y'know... just so I know who to watch out for."

Miguel raised an eyebrow before he hummed thoughtfully and nodded. "Alright," he said, "I think I can teach you a thing or two."

Polina smiled and nodded. Miguel smiled slightly and ruffled her hair again. She whined and playfully poked his side.

He nearly jumped and a laugh escaped his lips before he could shove it back down. He covered his mouth and Polina stared at him.

A smile slowly appeared on her face before she pinned him to the monitor with her webs and she started tickling him.

"H-hey! No- hahaha! Polina! Haha!" Miguel laughed. Lyla appeared and smirked.

"N-not funny, Lyla! Hehehehe!" He laughed.

"It's pretty funny to me, boss," she chuckled, "nice job, Polina."

"Thank youuu!" The last syllable rose to a squeal when Miguel suddenly grabbed her and started tickling her.

"Hahahaha! Heeey! No fair!" She squealed and laughed, squirming in Miguel's arms.

"Oh really?" He smirked as he continued the tickling assault, "not fair huh?"

She squealed and laughed harder.

After a few minutes, he stopped and rubbed her back as she was reduced to a giggling, breathing and coughing mess.

"Fácil, niña," he said, rubbing her back. She giggled and looked up at him. Then her Spider Senses went off and the two looked to see Peter B, Miles, Gwen, Jess, Pavitr, Margo and Hobie all smirking.

Miguel glared at them. "Not. A. Word," he nearly growled.

"Our lips are sealed," Jess chuckled. "More or less," Hobie smirked.

Miguel grumbled. Polina smiled happily.

"I'll be back," Polina said, "gonna head home real quick." "Alright," Miles said with a nod.

A portal opened and Polina went through it. On the other side, she made her way into her apartment room and looked around before she saw a small box on the bed.

She frowned and walked over to it. She opened the flaps and blinked when she saw a note and the contents looked like the same thing Miguel would use to boost up his powers.

"What...?" She murmured as she picked up the note.

It read, 'a gift from me to you. Always be strong. No matter what.'

There wasn't anyone's name so it was clear that no one had signed it. She frowned and glanced at the syringe and the bottle.

She could see the outline of small spiders inside of the bottle.

But the question in her mind remained.

What was she going to do now?
