Crime and Punishment
Polina wasn't fond of lying. She had never done it before. Her mom taught her better than that.
But she never told anyone where the syringes were coming from. Each time she came home to her apartment, there was a small box that had the same note.
It was strange at first, but now she had grown accustomed to it. She needed it like Miguel needed his things.
She took off her shirt, exhaling sharply. She picked up the syringe.
She looked at the syringe again. She sighed softly before she stabbed the needle into her arm.
She snarled, gritting her teeth. She could feel her pulse racing as her blood started to change to that of a wolf. She still had her Spider powers, she knew that much.
There were no negative effects on this one. The dragon one had almost led her to trying to kill Miguel and she still apologized. A lot.
Whoever kept sending her these must have really cared about her. She pulled the syringe away before she rubbed her shoulder with a cloth. Tossing the syringe into the trash can, she put the box aside and looked around.
She had managed to ask Miles to grab a Spider suit from Peter B's Aunt May.
She looked around again before she pressed her thumb against the gizmo and a portal opened up. She smiled and went through it.
On the other side, she came face to face with Miles, Hobie, Gwen and Prowler Miles. They were standing on one of the roof tops in Miles' dimension.
"You got it?" Polina asked with a smile. Miles nodded and he was holding a black, green and purple spider-suit.
"This will never work," Prowler Miles grumbled nervously. He was wearing a Day-Pass watch.
"Trust us, mate, it'll work," Hobie chuckled, arms crossed over his chest.
Prowler Miles grumbled more and he gave Polina a small glare, "did you really have to give me a different name though? I'm pretty sure people will be weirded out by the thought of me and Miles being brothers. Twin brothers, no less. No one has ever seen him with a sister or a brother!"
"Yes, Malik," Polina smiled, placing her hands on her hips, "it suits you. Miles' name means 'soldier' and Malik means 'king'." "That sounds accurate enough," Gwen chuckled.
Miles smiled at Malik, "see?" "And what about your boss?" Malik huffed, "won't he be asking questions?"
"What he doesn't know can't hurt him," Hobie huffed, "he's got a stick up his ass 24/7." "Language," Polina sighed, "and you know he's not so bad. He's just... himself."
Malik raised an eyebrow, "why does that feel like an excuse?" "Just work with us here, man!" Polina huffed, "now let's go to the Spider Society! And as long as you keep your Day-Pass on, you'll be fine. Okay? I promise."
Malik stared at her before he sighed, "fine, fine."
Another portal opened and the five went through it. Malik looked around curiously.
"It's certainly bright," he commented. "Yeah," Polina chuckled, "nothing traumatizing about that at all."
Miles gently elbowed her in the side and she grunted softly. Gwen and Hobie looked at each other then watched as Polina talked to Malik and Miles.
Something she says has Miles laughing and Malik blushing like crazy.
"Do you think Pol is okay?" Gwen asked. "She seems aces to me," Hobie said, putting his hands in his pockets, "although... she's been acting different with the mood swings."
Gwen frowned then nodded. She had become increasingly worried for Polina. Especially after her Canon Event happened.
But things seemed... relatively normal.
Polina broke into a run and Malik ran after her.
"What are they doing?" Gwen asked. "Apparently Polina wants to introduce him to everyone," Miles chuckled. Hobie snickered and Gwen facepalmed.
"What are you three up to?" Jess asked as she walked over with Peter B following.
"Um...," Miles said nervously. Peter B raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing," Gwen said quickly, "just got a new recruit. Polina wanted to go and show him around." "Oh! Well, that's something," Peter B chuckled.
Jess raised an eyebrow, "well, Miguel should know at least."
Miles made a noise of protest and Hobie frowned. Peter B looked at them, "what? Hey, c'mon, he's doing good now."
"Right," Hobie huffed, stuffing his hands into his pockets, "and where is the big boss anyway?" "On a mission," Jess chuckled, "he'll be back in a bit."
Malik and Polina walked through the building. "So... what do you think?" She asked, looking at him. He chuckled and shook his head, "looks like you've got your hands full with this many Spider People."
She laughed, "trust me! I'm just glad I'm not the leader." Malik laughed softly, "yeah, you would definitely have your hands full."
She smiled, "well I'm just glad you're here instead of your dark and moody dimension." "¡Ey!" He said and he ruffled her hair, making her squeak and laugh, "that's my dark and moody dimension."
She playfully swatted his hand away and smiled softly. She nearly jumped when a portal opened up and Miguel stepped out, carrying a tied up villain. Pavitr hopped out next to him.
Malik raised an eyebrow, "so... that's your boss?" "Mhm," she nodded. Jess and Peter B walked over to Miguel as Miles, Hobie and Gwen hurried over to Malik and Polina.
"Guys! Guys!" Pavitr said excitedly as he ran over. His eyes widened and his smile widened, "is that a new guy? Just like Miles!"
"U-uh, Pav," Miles said nervously. Miguel looked over at them then his gaze zeroed in on Malik. "Who is that?" He asked calmly.
"New guy, according to the kids," Peter B chuckled. Miguel frowned deeply and he walked over. Hobie subtly pulled Miles behind him and Polina bit her lip.
Miguel looked down at Malik then glanced at the day-pass watch on his wrist. "And why wasn't I informed of this?" He asked, looking at Jess and Peter B.
"It... uh... it was a surprise," Polina said nervously. Gwen cringed and Miguel raised an eyebrow. Lyla popped up next to his head.
"Well... you sure surprised us, Pol," she chuckled, "I thought you weren't fond of lying."
Gwen furrowed an eyebrow and she looked at her friend. "I'm not." Polina stated calmly. She just had to keep up this facade for a little bit.
Lyla raised an eyebrow and she looked at Malik. Then she scanned him. Malik nearly jumped back in surprise and Polina blinked a few times.
"This isn't a new Spider Man," Lyla said. Miguel looked at her, "what?"
'Crap!" Miles, Polina and Gwen thought. Before Lyla could say anything, Polina launched forward and swatted her hand at the hologram, surprising Miguel. She looked at Malik, "go!"
Malik quickly turned and started running. Miguel growled before he ran after Malik.
Polina ran after them. Miles and Gwen ran after Polina.
"Should we...?" Pavitr started to ask. Jess lifted her hand, "no, no. Let's leave them to it. In the meantime," she gave Hobie a light glare and he smiled innocently.
Polina ran after Miguel and Malik, "Miguel, leave him alone! He's not a bad person!" "In case you missed it, this is the Prowler version of Miles!" The older Spider-Man snapped, "what were you thinking, bringing him here?!"
"I thought it through!" She snapped back before she leapt over his head and she yelped as she tumbled into Malik. The two tumbled across the ground and landed in a heap. Miguel skidded to a stop and he glared at the two. He looked at Miles and Gwen, "of all the irresponsible, insubordinate-" he pinched the bridge of his nose, taking a breath.
Polina looked up at him, her wolf ears flying flat against her head. Malik looked at her then at Miguel.
"Gwen, Miles, take him back to his dimension," he huffed. He looked at Polina, "as for you, you're on probation."
"What the hell does that mean?" Malik demanded. "It means that she will be staying here and under my watch," Miguel huffed.
Polina looked at him.
A portal opened and Miles gently tapped Malik's shoulder. He glanced at Polina then at Miguel before he, Gwen and Miles went through it.
Miguel looked at Polina before he sighed heavily, "honestly, do you have any idea what would've happened if he stayed here longer? The very risk of one single villain being here is-"
"Miguel," Jess said quietly, placing a hand on his shoulder. He looked at her then at Polina who was staring at the ground, tears in her eyes. Miguel's heart sank at the sight before he sighed softly. He reached out and placed his hand on her head. She looked up at him.
"Your heart was in the right place," he said, "but next time, please tell me before you do something this dangerous."
"I don't think I can make that promise," she chuckled. "Pol," he said, frowning.
She smiled sheepishly before she burst into a coughing fit.
"You okay?" Peter B asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Yeah," Polina replied, rubbing her side, "I might've gotten a bruise on my side when me and Mal-... Prowler Miles fell. I'm fine."
Miguel frowned in concern before he gently patted her shoulder and the two walked back to Miguel's office.
