A Normal Life? Maybe Not
In New York, the streets were busy and the sun was shining.
On top of a building, Gwen and Miles sat on the roof, staring out at the horizon.
Miles sighed softly and smiled, "it's nice. And pretty quiet." "Quiet in New York? Now that's a laugh," Gwen chuckled.
He smiled at her, "you know what I mean!" The two laughed.
"Am I interrupting your day together, lovebirds?"
They looked over to see a sixteen year old girl walking over to them. She had light porcelain skin, raven black hair and light brown eyes. She wore a blue and red jacket and gray jeans.
"Hello to you too, Polina," Miles chuckled. "And no, you're not interrupting," Gwen smiled as their best friend sat beside the two.
"How are you guys?" Polina asked, resting her hands on her knees.
"We're good," Miles said, "life is good. School is good." Gwen leaned against him.
Things were okay. That's what it felt like to them. But why did it all feel so... different?
Polina looked out towards the city and she hummed softly. She let out a small sigh and rubbed her head.
Gwen looked at her, "you alright?"
"Kinda? Maybe? I'm not sure," she said, looking at the clouds, "something just... doesn't feel right. It's weird."
Gwen and Miles exchanged a glance before turning their attention back to their friend. Concern etched their features.
"What do you mean, Polina? Did something happen?" Miles asked gently, reaching out to place a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Polina shook her head, her eyes clouded with uncertainty. "No, nothing specific. It's just... a strange feeling. Like something is off or missing."
Gwen furrowed her brows, trying to make sense of Polina's words. "Have you been having any unusual dreams or gut feelings?"
Polina nodded slowly. "Yeah, I've been having these weird dreams lately. They're vivid, but I can't quite remember the details. And sometimes, it feels like something important is about to happen, but I can't put my finger on it."
Miles leaned in, his voice filled with concern. "Polina, you know we're here for you, right? Whatever it is, we'll figure it out together."
Polina smiled, touched by their support. "I know, you guys. That's why you're my best friends. I just needed to share it with you."
Gwen clasped Polina's hand, offering a reassuring squeeze. "We'll keep an eye out for any clues or signs. Maybe it's just a phase, or maybe there's something more to it. Either way, we'll get through it together."
Polina smiled gratefully at her friends, feeling the weight of her worries lessen. "Thanks, guys. I'm lucky to have you."
As the three friends continued to enjoy their time on the rooftop, they made a silent vow to be there for each other no matter what challenges lay ahead. Together, they would navigate the uncertainties and find the answers to the lingering questions that plagued them.
Meanwhile, a man walked into an alleyway, holding a case. He looked around cautiously before he nearly jumped when a woman stepped out of the shadows. She had porcelain skin, black hair and her face was covered by a wolf mask that had a purple flower on the side.
"Do you have it?" She asked calmly.
The man gave a timid nod, "y-yes. I have the dagger."
The woman snapped her fingers and another masked man stepped out of the shadows beside her. He had an espresso skintone and black hair.
He walked over to the nervous man and took the case before he opened it.
Inside the case was a dagger with a red and blue handle. The tip was silver with a golden tip. There was a purple and black wolf engraved into the handle.
"You have done well, Walter," the woman said, "the leader of the Dusk Mercenaries will compensate you greatly."
Walter nodded nervously but he slowly relaxed. The man took out a package and tossed it into Walter's hands.
"Five hundred dollars," the man said, "you will speak of this to no one."
"I-I won't. I swear," Walter said before he hurried out of the alleyway, desperate wanting to get away from them as quick as possible.
The man looked at the woman. "I'm sure the Alpha will be pleased," he said.
She nodded before the two disappeared into the shadows.
When night arrived, Miles laid in his bed, closing his eyes and listening to his music. He sighed softly.
He couldn't get shake off the feeling that something was off. But he didn't know what it was or if it was dangerous or not.
He sighed and opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. He took off his headphones and sat up.
There was a light tapping at his window.
He nearly jumped and looked over to see Gwen. Miles jumped out of bed and walked over as Gwen opened the window.
"What are you doing here?" He asked with a smile.
"Well... wanna head to the HQ?" Gwen asked. Miles raised an eyebrow and he crossed his arms with a suspicious frown.
"I know, I know," Gwen said, "but I'm sure he'll get off your back if Peter can help out. Besides... Polina has never been there and she's been curious."
Miles grumbled before he smiled, "alright. I'm coming."
Gwen smiled as she climbed up the roof. Miles made sure to leave a note for his parents before he donned his suit and followed Gwen outside.
Polina was sitting on the rooftop of her apartment building and she looked over to see Gwen and Miles swinging over.
She smiled, "are we gonna go now?"
The two laughed and Gwen smiled. "Yes we're going now, Pol," she said.
Polina cheered happily and she jumped to her feet.
Miles chuckled, "you're even more excited than I am. But wait till you meet Pavitr and Hobie. You're gonna like them."
"I can imagine," Polina said as a bright orange portal appeared before the three. She looked at the portal and fidgeted a little, feeling nervous.
"Hey, don't worry," Gwen said with a smile. Miles gave her a reassuring smile. Polina took a breath before she nodded and the three jumped into the portal.
