Chapter 5

Jane's POV

Plumtree and Fanny just returned from their walk and Fanny insisted that she go and change for lunch. Here I stand looking out the window as Clara rides on Achilles through the grounds of the estate. I can't help but somewhat wonder what she is thinking.

"She seems to free doesn't she?" I hear Plumtrees voice ask me.

"That she does, even letting her hair down at that." I tell him as I look over and see that he is also watching her as well.

"Quite a sight she is. One that would make many men want to court her?" Plumtree says almost as if her were asking me.

"I do not think she would have them, she prefers her freedom." I lie to him. I can't tell him that she is from the future and that there is no way they could be together.

As I finish my thought though my mind wonders off to another who was in Clara's place who decided she would just make the best of her life here in this time. Would Clara be willing to do the same thing though? Give up her life back in her time to possibly have a chance with someone like Plumtree perhaps?

"Perhaps she has just not met the right man yet." He says with a sigh.

"Dear sir if I did not know any better I would say she has struck an interest in you?" I ask him bravely.

"I dare say she has, much to Fanny's disappointment." He tells me as he continues to watch Clara as she rides up to the stables.

Clara's POV

Finally after riding who knows how long I return to the stables. Once inside I dismount Achilles and pet him as I notice another blonde haired man brushing a dark brown horse. Not knowing who he was I lead Achilles up to the stall the new man was in and he looked up at me with the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen in my life. I swear my heart just stopped for a moment. I can't seem to concentrate now.

"Stable boy!" a female's voice who I know too well calls out. Fanny of course.

Fanny walks over and puts herself between me and the stables boy's vision. Oh I could just shove her forward and make her land face first into the butt of that horse. Then again I would feel bad for the horse.

"Is my horse ready yet stable boy?" she asks him in a harsh manner.

"Yes my lady, I just finished with his loose shoe." He tells her handing her the reins but she refuses them.

"Well then lead him out for me." She tells the stable boy and I roll my eyes at her.

The stable boy just nods and leads the horse out to the door, once there with his assistance Fanny is on the horse and takes off. I just shake my head as I start to take Achilles to his stall. The stable boy comes and stands before the stall I am in and I look up to him.

"She shouldn't treat you like that." I tell him as I start to take a brush and brush Achilles.

"I am use to it my lady." He answers me as he looks to Achilles.

"That is no excuse, please do not call me my lady. I have no title nor do I want one. Please call me Clara." I tell him as I continue to brush the horse.

"I am called Westley. You have an odd accent Clara." He tells me. I can tell he actually struggled saying my name.

"I am an American, just a friend of Miss Austen's really not Fanny's so you do not have to act as though you like her because at this moment her and I are not on good terms." I tell him as he walks a bit closer to me.

"She is a lady, she believe she must be treated better that the others because of her title." He tells me with a shy smile almost as if he were confessing a sin.

"Ah I see, well please do not think I am like that at all." I tell him as I look back at him.

Now that I look at him I notice just how handsome he is. Medium length blonde hair, just long enough that he could tie it up in a small pony tail. He has strong facial features as well. His eyes still were so beautiful so blue like a cloudless sky. I smiled at him and I notice his lips form into a smile as well.

"Achilles does not like most people, I am surprised Tom let you ride him." He tells me as he takes a brush and brushes Achilles as well.

"Really? That is what Fanny told me as well. Still he was very kind to me, only once did he have to stop in a rude way because of Fanny as well." I tell him with a sigh.

"She stopped in front of the horse did she not?" he asks me.

"How did you know?" I ask him as I look at him shocked.

"Tom and I were watching you, Fanny was jealous you could tell that you were getting the attention of Mr. Plumtree." He tells me as our brushes touch as do our hands.

"She has no threat in me, Mr. Plumtree would be better off with her believe me." I tell Westley.

"Tom said that the minute he saw you he knew there was no way you would go off with someone like Plumtree, I agreed with him." He tells me again with the shy smile.

"Well, Westley I suppose I should go back inside. Once there I am sure Miss Austen will insist on putting my hair back in restraints." I tell him with a small giggle.

"I prefer your hair down, Miss Clara." He tells me as I feel him take my hand and I look back into those blue soothing eyes.

"As do I Westley. Will you be here tomorrow? I would prefer to ride before Fanny." I ask him as I feel my hand also take ahold of his sort of but not really against my will.

"If that is what you wish, then I will be here." He tells me.

I smile and nod at him as I walk beside him and start to the stable doors. I can't help but turn around and see him looking at me with a small smile on his face. Oh Westley is going to be big trouble for my heart, I can already tell it. I turn back around making a very girly giggling noise and walk out of the stables.
