Chapter 29
Sitting at the vanity, Clara watched as Jane helped her with a hairstyle that would help her to blend in well with a crowd. Jane had commented to Clara many times on how hard it was to tame her hair, but Clara gave it no attention.
The courts would decide what would happen and thankfully all that she as well as Mr. Plumtree and Jane would just have to give a full statement on paper and it would be given to the court. She had written down everything she could remember, any little detail that might be important to the case. In turn her statement turned out to be about three pages long.
She had signed it, placed it in an envelope and sealed the letter with wax. It was a very new custom to her to be using wax to seal a letter but it was something she quickly adapted to. She sent it off with Jane's and Plumtree's as well. Three important documents were now in the hands of one man. She had then silently prayed that they would arrive at their destination. They did.
Finally Jane patted her shoulder letting her know that the hair task was done. Smiling, Clara stood and looked to Jane. She remembered the day that a letter was delivered to them, it was from the judge in charge of the case. He thanked the three of them, and told them that justice had been served and that Angelica would be kept behind bars for the rest of her days. Clara let out a breath of relief she didn't know she was holding in until she had let it out.
"Come now, a wedding in no day to be thinking about such crazy things." Jane comforted Clara with a grin.
"You are quite right Jane, so many things have happened in such a short amount of time. It would seem as though I had forgotten myself for a moment." Clara replied.
Jane led Clara to the carriage that was waiting just outside the house. Stepping inside Clara decided to think about her future and the one she would lead being Mrs. James Plumtree. Knowing that the past was now her future mad her excited and a bit nervous at the same time.
Jane and Clara arrived at the church and were pleasantly surprised to see it was already decorated. It was now spring, in truth they had waited for a warmer time of year to have their wedding and now it was finally here.
The church had flowers on the outside that welcomed the wedding guests right into the church itself. Clara watched as Jane led her into the foyer of the church, thanks to the doors of the chapel being closed no one could see the blushing bride yet.
"This is it; you and James will be man and wife and your new life will be a brand-new adventure. Are you sure, with all your hearts of heart, is this what you want?" Jane asked making sure that this truly was what Clara wanted.
Clara took a deep breath and closed her eyes. All the memories of her past with the hospital and then the accident that led to her coming to this time. All the shock and sadness and besides Jane there was one person who stood by her side the whole time. Who actually believed she wasn't from this time, yet that did not change their opinion of her. James, her was always there. Even in times where she had no idea why he was there. She smiled as she thought of their fonder memories and how happy she was with him. Opening her eyes, a small tear of joy ran down her face.
"I am sure, this is more than I could have ever dreamed for myself. I personally thought all the best men I ever wrote about were fiction. Now I have the proof before me, James has changed everything." Clara smiled as she took Jane's hand. "I want to marry him Jane, I promise with all of my heart."
Jane smiled and turned and opened the large doors. All eye turned to the door and Clara took another deep breath as Jane led her down the path. Plumtree turned to look at her at the very beginning of the path and a large grin was revealed upon his face. Joy ran through her body as Jane released Clara into James arm.
Father Brown began the ceremony. Though it is truth that Clara and James could not take their eyes off one another. Father brown even had to clear his throat a few times just to get their attention. The father smiled as he got their attention and before they knew it, he pronounced them husband and wife. James grabbed her and kissed her with all of his passion that he had held back the moment he met her. Clara smiled as she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. Never had she felt such joy or love than she had in that moment. She never wanted to forget it, ever.
