FIVE

The clock ticked slowly but surely. She kept her eyes on the clock, never glancing away.

Nari was still fuming. At first she couldn't believe that he did that to her but, it's Jungkook that we're talking about so what did she expect?

There were only two students in this detention. Guess who wasn't in detention, Jungkook. The two students with her were a girl and a boy. They were in different chairs and they all stood silent. The teacher was on his desk grading some tests.

She still had to tell her mother that she was in detention. Nari could already see her mother grounding her for life or just scolding her.

She started doodling, like she usually does, on a paper she found on her desk. She had placed her book-bag on the chair next to hers.

Suddenly the sound of the door opening startled her. She looked up to see who entered and it was him.

Jungkook.

The teacher  glanced up but later kept writing on her papers.

Jungkook walked until he was on the chair next to Nari, he took her book-bag lightly off her chair and sat down next to her.

Nari ignored him and kept looking straight. She still wasn't having it today.

The scraping of Jungkook's chair echoed through the classroom. He had moved the chair closer to Nari, but they still had a reasonable distance.

He put his feet on the table making Nari jump from the impact.

She glared at him, he just smiled sheepishly before taking out his phone and typing on it.

"What are you doing here?" she asked him as she took a sharp breath.

He looked as if he was just sitting down on the living room of his house. He looked as if he didn't have one care in the world.

He looked up, "Keeping you company." his eyes looked at her and she fell in a trance that she tried to avoid, but eventually couldn't.

His brown eyes were the most beautiful pair of eyes she had ever seen. The way the color mixed creating a light brown astonished her.

Snap out of it! she said to herself.

"You're not fooling me, what are you really doing here?" she asked as she crossed her hands on her chest.

His sigh confirmed his real motives.

He looked at her before handing his phone to her, "Put your phone number in."

Was he serious?

She stared at the phone in confusion, "I can text you."

"Put your phone number in." he repeated.

Jungkook nudged his phone to Nari and she just took it before he began to bother again. She clicked on the buttons typing in the numbers.

She thought about giving him a fake number but she didn't want to fight with him. She was tired and it was the second day of school already.

"There," she passed him the phone, "now leave."

He chuckled, "You have one minute left of detention so what's the point of leaving." he said.

"I'm supposed to be in detention. Not you, so," she points to the door, "the exit is that way."

Jungkook chuckled, "Where did this confidence come from? Just two days ago you were trembling when I got closer to you," taking his feet off the table, he leaned even closer to her, "like this."

She looked to the front but if she turned to her right, she'd be able to kiss him. Refraining herself from showing any weakness, she kept a
straight face.

She opened her mouth to respond when the bell signaled the end of detention.

Jungkook smirked before pulling away and taking his stuff, "See you around. Tomorrow we start tutoring at my house." he said before walking away from the classroom with a smug look on his face.

Nari didn't even think it through, she just left the classroom and bolted to the middle school building. She was trying to stop her sped up heartbeat by jogging to  her mother's classroom.

What did she get herself into?

                            -

The card glistened against the sunlight. She was determined to call Suk to see how he was recovering.

Her house was silent, her mother had gone to sleep early and her sister was doing a project in her room. She sat on the couch in the living room with her phone and a card with Suk's number.

She typed in the numbers one by one before pressing the call button.

"Hello?"

"Suk? It's me Nari, I heard the news and I am so sorry."

"It's okay kid. At least I didn't get hurt."

"Thank God you didn't get hurt, because if you did-"

"Don't worry Nari. I'm actually going back to work tomorrow."

"You are? But are you okay to start working again?"

"I'm still shaken up but, you know the drill kid."

"You need to rest, Suk."

"I did rest, I may be in my 50s but I still take long naps like today's youth."

"If you need help with the store, you can tell me and I'll be more than happy to work there."

"I'll keep that in mind, I have to go sort something out with the police. Thank you for calling."

"No worries, I hope you feel better."

She hung up the phone and let out a huff. Luckily he doesn't know who Bangtan really are but she felt guilty because she knows them and could tell the police, but she didn't.

She was doing it to treasure her and her family's life.

Walking to the kitchen she took her phone and placed it on the countertop. She opened the fridge and took out some food to prepare for herself.

Before she even began to cook, she played her Spotify playlist on her phone as she started chopping all the ingredients.

She smiled at the song that began playing, singing the lyrics lowly to herself. Out of nowhere the music stopped, signaling that she was getting a phone call.

Nari stopped cutting the ingredients, cleaning her hands with a towel and answered her phone without looking at the caller ID.

"You answered, fiiiinallyyyy."

"Jun-Jungkook, are you drunk?"

"What do you think babee?"

"You could get caught for underage drinking, you know?"

"Eh, what's new."

"Are you at Jun's party?"

"Yesh. "

"Are you alone?"

"I'm with Taehyung, babee."

"Wow, you are so drunk okay. Just pass me to Taehyung."

"Okay. Tae–Taehyung!"

"Oh God, just pass me Taehyung without causing a ruckus."

"Hey Nari."

"Please tell me that you are sober."

"I am. Don't worry he'll be fine."

"I'm not worried, I'm being considerate."

"Sure."

"Just be on the look out just in case something happens."

"I am on the look out. Are you sure you're not worried for him?"

"Listen–put Jungkook on the phone."

"I am back."

"I know, just be careful."

"Aw Nari! You care for meee."

"Again for the second time, I am being considerate."

"Right...I have to tell you something."

"Okay, um go on."

"There's something you don't know about your-"

The line went off, the signal had been cut off. She texted him asking him if he was alright, he answered quickly but Taehyung answered instead.

From: Jeon Jungkook
He is fine, the signal was cut off. We're going home now, see you tomorrow. -Tae

Nari set her phone on the tabletop as she finished reading the text.

What did he mean by me not knowing something? Is he hiding something? Are they hiding something else? she thought to herself.

Maybe he was drunk so he didn't even know what he was saying. She shouldn't believe a drunk person, right?

Right?
