Meet the Sparklepires

Meet the Sparklepires

The Cullens were not so happy with the addition of demigods in town. I hadn't told them what we were but I had a feeling that they already knew, thanks to a certain brunette that I didn't like too much. How did I come to this conclusion? Well, that same brunette had walked up to my table at lunch time and told me to meet them at the Cullens' residence.

"Alice said to bring the others with you," she had added before heading back to her own table with the rest of her friends.

So there we were, three demigods, standing just outside a house full of vampires. We had shadow-traveled there, knowing full well that this part of the town was secluded and barely anyone ever came across it. I fought the urge to lie down and rest because we were in enemy territory. The Cullen vampires were supposedly "vegetarians" but we were not going to rule out a possible fight.

They sensed our presence, probably smelling the weird combination of seawater, smoke and corpses that we emitted (as Paul not-so-politely pointed out before) when we were together. One of them, the one posing as the mother, came out to greet us.

She was polite enough, I guess, and we followed her inside the house.

"Nice place you've got here," Natty commented as she plopped down on the fancy-looking couch. Esme Cullen smiled warmly at the comment, unaware that my cousin really didn't care for the state of their house.

The three of us sat close together, defenses up, and the vampires noticed that.

"We won't hurt you, we promise," Dr. Cullen said.

I looked to Andi, who still didn't seem too comfortable in a house full of blood-drinking beings, then back to the vampire. "Do you swear it on the River Styx?"

"Huh?"

"It's an empty promise unless you swear it on the river," Natty piped in. "At least, to us it is."

"Well, then we swear it on the Styx river, Nile river, Mississippi River or whatever river you want," big idiot vampire dude cut in. There was a rumbling sound in the distance, which we demigods took as a sign that we could trust them. The sparklepires heard it too, obviously loud and clear thanks to the super vampire hearing, though they looked more confused or in awe.

"That's good. If you keep your promise, you don't get struck by lightning," Natty told them.

"What?" big idiot vamp asked. I knew it was him who would ask that just because he seemed like the least smartest out of the lot. I'm jumping to conclusions but whatever.

"It's Greek mythology. The Greek gods take promises seriously. Swearing on the Styx is a binding oath," Carlisle Cullen explained. Then he turned to us. "Although we would also like to know that our safety is not compromised."

I shrugged. "We're just three teenage girls. What harm can we do to a bunch of vampires?"

"I doubt you think you're absolutely defenseless," big idiot vamp replied. Well, at least someone knows we can kick ass.

"Like you said, we take our promises seriously," Natty said. "We won't attack unless we think we have to. No need to involve the Styx here." I'm sure I've said it before but sometimes I forget that Natty can be the serious leader whenever needed. "So, what is the reason for our summons. The girl said you wanted to meet with us, but for what?"

"For a truce," Edgar, I mean Edward, cut in. "And an explanation as to why you're in Forks."

"I live here," I deadpanned. "Any other obvious questions?"

Edward let out a sigh. "We want to know why there's suddenly more of you." His gaze was fixated on my cousins. "It affects us," he said. I remembered that they had powers and they didn't work on demigods. It must have been so frustrating for them that Andi and Natty had just come to town and made it harder for them.

"Well, too bad. We don't care if it affects you," Natty said, shrugging nonchalantly. This earned a growl from the vampire.

"This is a life-or-death situation," he said, jaw clenched. "Someone's life is at stake here."

"What do you mean? Who is in danger?" Andi was the one to reply, fortunately. I was sure if either Natty or I kept talking, nothing good would come out of it.

"Bella."

"Lemme guess: the redhead is still after her?" They nodded. I didn't say anything else. They wouldn't appreciate if I actually voiced out my thoughts on this topic. Especially Eddie. I didn't think he would like me calling his girl a few names. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to help that girl. I mean, the last time I had actually had an actual conversation with the Swan girl it was right after she almost drowned. She didn't strike me as the sort to want to live back then.

My cousins and I glanced at each other, coming to an agreement. As the person least likely to offend them, Andi was made our spokesperson. It was the only logical choice considering mine and Natty's socializing skills.

"We'll help you."
