Finally! An Update!
Finally! An Update!
We explained the concept of Imprinting to Andi, and I had thought she would be taking in the information well. I thought wrong and I don't think anyone had expected her to just get up and run off. Seth moved to follow after her but Natty somehow got him to stay put.
"Let her cool off a bit," Natty said, "It's probably a lot to process. She'll be back when she's had enough time to think it over." I smiled, admiring her thoughtfulness. It's not everyday that Natty shows the softer, understanding side of her personality.
Seth looked hesitant but I guess he realized that Natty was someone he should listen to. I couldn't blame him, though. A lot of people have said that she's pretty intimidating. It was probably only Thalia and I who would test her patience. Natty probably wouldn't touch a single hair on Andi if the latter ever tried to piss her off, but Andi's too lovable to really get on anyone's nerves.
"Anyway," Sam cut in, "We've been getting a lot of vampire activity lately. We might need some help with it, since it stays out of the boundary line."
Natty raised an eyebrow. "What's in it for us?" she inquired. "Just 'cause we can fight, doesn't mean we want to."
I cleared my throat and spoke up. "You guys get to help me prove to Embry that I can fight and that I don't need him to protect me all the time." It was probably a good thing that Embry wasn't here because I could hear the other guys muttering things like, "Shots fired" or some other dumb shizzz.
"Yeah, I know that," Natty retorted, "But I mean, other than that? What will I get? I don't have a boyfriend to prove a point to. He's knows that I can kick his ass." I snickered, especially when she indirectly confessed to already be dating her long-time crush, and she shot me a glare. I knew she was only saying that to seem cool in front of the wolves. In reality, she was like a fluffy bunny when it came to her boyfriend. I mean, in front of him she probably doesn't make it so obvious but she had a soft spot for him.
"C'mon, Natty," I pouted. "Do it for your awesome cousin." When the self-complimenting didn't work, I attempted to do the puppy dog face. I kept my eyes on her as I did so, ignoring the looks I was sure I was getting from the other people in the room.
She sighed. "If you don't make that face again, then I will," she muttered. "I swear, that face of yours is gonna give me nightmares." I just sent her a wink in response.
"So, you'll help us?" Sam asked for confirmation. For a second I had pretty much forgotten that I wasn't alone with Natty, that we were with the wolves in Emily's house.
"On the condition that we do it our way, yes," Natty muttered.
"Then that settles it then. You'll help us," Sam concluded.
It was in that moment that Andi came back into the house, followed by Embry.
"Found her wandering around," Embry muttered. "And I heard someone Imprinted."
Andi walked over to me and Natty, keeping her head down as if she was trying not to look somewhere. She was, obviously, and the boy she was avoiding eye contact with just watched her. I'd give it maybe a day or two and they'll be besties in no time. Seth was just that happy-go-lucky kind of guy and Andi is probably the nicest kid on the planet.
"What'd I miss?" Embry questioned. He didn't seem like he was going to move closer and I wondered for a while if that was a good thing or not. I realized that thinking like that made me sound like I'm clingy or something. I don't want that. So I didn't comment when he stayed in his place.
"Ashley's cousins are going to help us with the vampire," Sam told Embry.
"We've got names, you know," Natty piped in. "Ash is cool and all, but I prefer not to be called 'Ashley's cousin' the whole time."
"I know the other one is Andi, but your name is?" Paul inquired. For a second I thought Natty was going to summon another bolt of lightning but she remained composed.
"It's Natty. Really easy to remember, but I guess your pea-sized brain won't be able to," she retorted calmly. That wiped the smirk off Paul's face real quick.
I'm probably exaggerating but I was surprised he didn't go all wolf on Natty. Instead he rolled his eyes, subtly admitting his defeat.
"Y'all are sure it was just Seth who Imprinted today?" Leah joked. I wasn't expecting her input--I didn't think anyone was-- but we all burst into laughter. Paul scoffed and started complaining, and Natty just looked disgusted.
I didn't think bringing my two cousins here would make the day so eventful, but I should've expected it. I mean, three demigods in one room? We're monster magnets. Something always has to happen.
