Chapter 3 | The Echoes of Regret
His POV
"Why?" I questioned, my voice trembling with a mixture of longing and anger. Yet you remained silent, the weight of my words hanging in the air between us, a suffocating barrier of unspoken truths. "Are you going to say something or not?" I pressed, desperation seeping into my voice.
You met my gaze, your eyes filled with a storm of emotions. "Which question should I answer?" you asked, your voice a faint whisper carried by the wind.
"All of them," I replied, my voice tinged with frustration and betrayal.
Your gaze dropped, and a heavy silence settled over us. "I am sorry," you finally uttered, your voice laced with regret. I couldn't help but feel a pang of bitterness at your apology - the mere words held no solace for the wounds that had been inflicted upon my heart.
"I don't need your sorry," I retorted, my voice laced with a bitter edge. "Just tell me why did you go to England, leaving me?" The words tumbled out, tinged with a mixture of hurt and longing.
You hesitated; your gaze locked with mine. "Because I got a big opportunity," you murmured, your voice barely audible.
A bitter smile tugged at the corners of my lips. "Oh, great! Then why are you back?" I asked, my voice heavy with sarcasm.
Your eyes widened, and you raised your head, meeting my gaze with disbelief. "Why do you even care? Aren't you already married?" The accusation hung in the air, mingling with the tension that crackled between us.
A sharp pang shot through my heart, but I refused to let it show. "You have a really big misunderstanding," you insisted, the desperation evident in your voice.
"I don't think so. I guess I know what would have happened. You married a guy who was richer than me at that time, but now you learned that I, your ex who is now thousand times richer than your husband, is getting married. So, you left your husband. This is what happened, right?" I spat out, the bitterness lacing every word.
"No! Trust me, Kookie," you pleaded, your voice trembling. But as the endearing nickname slipped from your lips, I couldn't help but feel a surge of anger at the audacity to call me by that name. "Don't you even dare to call me that! You have lost that right," I snapped, my voice laced with a mixture of pain and resentment.
You took a deep breath, struggling to find the right words. "Listen, Jungkook, I was never married," you finally revealed, desperation etched across your face.
"If it's like that, then why did you leave?" I questioned, my voice softening slightly.
"Because I got a big opportunity," you repeated, your voice trembling with an unspoken weight.
"And that big opportunity was getting married to a guy richer than me?" I countered, my voice tinged with bitterness.
"No, it wasn't," you exclaimed, your voice filled with frustration and pain. "Yes, it was," I interjected, unable to see beyond the walls of my own hurt.
The scene around us seemed to blur as our voices intertwined with raw emotion. People stopped in their tracks; their gaze fixated upon us as if drawn to the intensity of our exchange.
"Will you guys leave?" I yelled, my voice cutting through the air like a sharp blade. The people quickly averted their gazes, scurrying away like frightened mice.
Defeated, I turned away from you, my heart heavy with unresolved emotions. "I think you should go back to your husband," I muttered bitterly, my words filled with a bitter resignation. "You can never get me back because I don't love you anymore," I spat out, my chest constricted with a torrent of unreleased anguish.
As I retreated from the tumultuous scene, the weight of my pain threatened to consume me. Each step I took was weighed down by the echoes of regret that reverberated within my soul. The house, once filled with laughter and love, now seemed to imprison me within its walls, reminding me of the love we had once shared, now shattered beyond repair.
Returning to the confines of my empty home, I found solace only in the cold solitude that enveloped me. Seeking refuge in my room, I opened the drawer and my eyes fell upon the watch you had given me. My hands trembled as I held it, memories flooding my mind like a crashing wave.
I couldn't bring myself to throw it away, despite the pain it represented. It became a cruel reminder of what once was, a tangible token of the love that had faded to ashes, leaving only bitterness in its wake.
Time passed unnoticed as I sat there, trapped in the swirling storm of my own emotions. The night seeped into my soul like darkness itself, the weight of despair pressing upon me from all sides.
A knock at the door shattered the haunted silence, and I mustered the strength to answer. Opening the door, I found my secretary, Noah, standing there, a solemn expression on his face.
"The wedding planner is here," he informed me, his voice laced with an understanding of the somber state I found myself in.
I nodded in acknowledgment, my mind weighed down by the upcoming event that served as a harsh reminder of a love lost. With a heavy heart, I made my way to meet the wedding planner, anticipation mingling with a cocktail of emotions that threatened to overwhelm me.
As I stepped into the room, my eyes were drawn to you. There you were, radiant yet wounded, the pain etched across your features like a veil. The sight of you stirred a storm within me, an amalgamation of love, anger, and longing.
Our eyes locked, and time seemed to stand still, the intensity and weight of our shared history crashing upon us. The room faded into the background, and it was as if we were the only two souls existing in that moment.
"I didn't expect to see you here," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. The emotions within me churned, threatening to spill over, but I fought to maintain a semblance of composure. "What are you doing here?"
