*Shadow's POV*
[1 Week Later]
"He should be getting the divorce papers soon. You may want to go somewhere where he won't find Sonic if he doesn't want to put a restraining order." The lawyer said to me as I rubbed Sonics back. He had been feeling sick all day from how scared he was. I nodded at him, and he moved some papers closer to Sonic that he needed to sign.

"Are we done?" I asked, and the lawyer nodded and then placed the papers in his portfolio.

"Yes. I will contact you soon." He stood up, and we shook hands, then I chaos controlled back to my house with Sonic in my arms. He only felt comfortable being around me.

"Are you hungry?" I asked, and he shook his head. "You need to eat something. How about a fruit, at least?" He nodded at that. I walked to the kitchen and grabbed an orange, then peeled it for him.

It had been a lot of work having him here. I had learned that Sonic could not sleep in a room by himself but was afraid to be in a bed with me or anyone else. I had set up a chair beside my bed, and I spent the night there, making sure he was okay and would sleep through the night.

He also could not be in the darkness nor have anything tied to his wrists in any sort of way. Amy had tried to give him a bracelet, and he had freaked out. He had been shaking and started to cry quietly. It was instantly removed. He could not be near sharp objects or he would have a breakdown, as well as he was already feeling so worn out with no substances in his system. He kept scratching, and his leg was constantly shaking. He kept chewing toothpicks every once in a while to get out of the habits that Fleetway introduced to him.

No one could raise their voice, or he would immediately start to apologize or try to do whatever he thought would get us to calm down. I was not going to give up on him. I will make sure he gets better.

"Thank you." He said as he got comfortable in his usual corner and started eating the orange i peeled for him. He seemed to like the corner because no one could come out from behind him or scare him.

"No problem." I smiled and sat down beside him, then turned on the TV and put on a movie for the two of us to watch.

"I'm sorry for putting all this stress on you, Shadow." Sonic said, his voice calmer than I have heard him speak the past week he's been staying with me. I tried not to react too much at that, not wanting to scare him, but I couldn't help and smile.

"There is nothing to apologize, Hedgehog." I said, moving slightly closer to him and kept looking at the movie. One of Sonics favorites.

"Shadow?" I looked at Sonic when he called my name halfway through the movie. "Have you been seeing anyone?" My ear flickered at that.

"No." I answered truthfully. "I didn't want to date anyone again after we broke up. I felt like the connection we had was too strong for me to move on from it, ever."

"I'm sorry." He whispered and looked down.

"What are you apologizing for now?" I asked with a soft chuckle and held his hand gently.

"I kept pressuring you for things you weren't ready for during our relationship. Wanting to get married and starting a family, I -"

"I loved that idea, Sonic. And I really wanted to as well. I was just scared." I squeezed his hand. "There is nothing you should be sorry about."

"You deserved someone better than me. Someone who was stronger, make you happy. Someone who would have realized you were afraid. You should move on, Shadow. Find someone new to make you happy. I can't do that, I will never be able to do that." He kept looking down at our hands as he pulled his hand away.

"Sonic." I said almost in a whisper. "You make me happy, more than anyone in the world can. There is no one else like you, and I don't even need to go find someone new when the perfect one for me is right in front of me." I cupped his face and pulled him closer. He flinched and moved his face away, so I didn't try again, but I noticed he didn't pull away from my hold. I noticed he glanced down at my arms around him, which I had learned was a signal for me to hug him. So I did.

"You could have anyone in the world." He whispered as he hugged back.

"I only want you." I said softly, then pulled away and looked into his eyes. "I love you."

Sonics eyes got teary, and for the first time since I brought him here, he smiled. My eyes widened, and I kissed his forehead, causing him to let out a quiet laugh.
