*Sonic's POV*
I looked down at my hands after I sat down on Shadows couch, sitting at the corner of the couch with pillows and blankets surrounding me. Shadow was trying to make me feel comfortable and safe, but if I was being honest, just having him around felt like it was enough. I couldn't help but look at my wedding ring, I couldn't take it off, I was too afraid that if anyone found it, Fleetway would find a way to find me as well. Coming to Shadows place may be a mistake and I know it, because it would be one of the first places he would come look for me at once he realizes Shadow is still here and not on a G.U.N. mission.
"Take it off." Shadow said as he sat beside me and looked at where I was looking at. "You're not going back with him."
"I'm still his husband." I mumbled, I knew I would end up back with Fleetway soon since we were still married.
"Not for long." He answered, so I looked up at him. "Give me the ring. I'll contact a lawyer to help you get a divorce." He extended his hand and waited. I stayed quiet and removed the ring off my finger without saying anything else. Being around Shadow, I felt safe, but I was still scared.
I was scared that if I said anything wrong, Shadow would go back to hating me and beat me up. I was afraid he'd snap like Fleetway did. I was afraid he'd do anything Fleetway had done to me or use me as his sex toy.
"Look at me." I listened instantly and looked up at him. "I'm getting you out of this situation. I promise." He lowered his ears at me.
"Shadow. You don't have to do anything. You're busy, and this will cause you more problems. Fleetway is never going to let me leave." I whispered, my ears pinned down, and I closed my eyes, expecting a slap for talking back.
"I'm not going to hurt you." He spoke softly. The way he used to speak to me whenever he wanted to tell me he loved me. I can't believe my ex is the one trying to help me.
"How pathetic am I? Shadow. You don't have to help me. He's never going to drop this. I will end up back with him." He leaned forward, closer to me, and I instantly raised my head, expecting him to start choking me like Fleetway did whenever I talked back.
Shadow froze and moved back, then stood up and walked to the kitchen. He came back with a cup of tea and some cookies and then extended them to me so I could take them.
"I'm not letting him get near you again. You're not going back to him. You're getting a divorce." He said softly. "Please eat something."
"I can't get a divorce." I looked down at the cookies and took one, then grabbed the cup and did what he wanted me to. I took a sip and started eating the cookie, trying to ignore how sick it made me feel.
"Yes, you can. Chaos, just look at how he left you." Shadow looked me up and down. "You have more than enough proof that he's an abusive husband."
"No. I do not." I answered back. "Sorry." I apologized again and tensed up when Shadow got closer to me and started petting back my quills. Chills ran down my spine as I remembered the times Fleetway would suddenly grab me just to drag me to the bedroom. "He turns it around and says it's from me being attacked because I'm a 'hero'."
I closed my eyes and leaned at his touch when I realized he wasn't trying to hurt me. A few tears escaped my eyes as I tried to relax. Without knowing, I fell asleep.
*Shadow's POV*
"Is everything okay?" Rouge asked me over the phone as I carried Sonic to the bedroom and placed him down on my bed. I remember he said he always liked how comfortable it was instead of the one in the spare bedroom. I covered him with the blanket and placed a few pillows around him to make him feel comfortable. Then I walked out, leaving a lamp on just in case as I closed the door.
"No." I said with honesty. "I've never seen him like this before. I hugged him without thinking when I saw him, and he kicked me off and then started apologizing to me. He was crying. He looks so hurt and broken. I don't know what to do. I want to kill Fleetway."
"That may be easier than trying to get him a divorce." Rouge hummed. "But you can't kill him. You'll just make Sonic afraid of you."
"I know." I pinched the bridge of my nose and walked to the spare room and laid down. I could see the door to my room from where I was, which made me feel better even if my house had security to alarm me if anyone tried to break in.
"He needs to see a doctor, but I don't think he will want to." I sighed and rubbed my face.
"I doubt he will want that." She said. "Maybe Tails can -" I shook my head and interrupted her.
"He doesn't know what is going on a d he doesn't want to see Sonic anyway. I haven't even had the chance to ask what happened to make him say those things. If I am being honest, I doubt he was the one who said that anyway. It's not like him to do that."
"It's also not like him to get married to someone like Fleetway either. You may want to ask him these things before Tails goes over." Rouge said calmly because she knew she was getting on my nerves.
"I said he's not going to see Sonic. I can't just ask him those things. He barely can say a sentence without stuttering or apologizing to me." I rolled my eyes.
"He needs medical attention Hun, whether you like it or not, Tails has to go visit him." I knew she was right, I was just afraid Sonic might be more afraid.
