Making Up Chpt. 12
Later that day, I was inside my house eating all alone. Bella had to leave, which I didn't want her to, but I had to be nice and let her go.
I was eating in peace in the dining area when I heard knocking coming from the front door.
I put my fork down and perked up with a bewildered look. 'Qui que ce serait?' I thought to myself. Who would that be?
I got up and walked over to the door. I opened it and on the other side was Wayne and Mitty.
And Wayne didn't look happy at all.
"Hey...what's up?" I asked, leaning against the doorjamb.
"Where's Toosk?" Wayne questioned harshly.
"Toosk...?" I straightened up as my eyes widened. 'Je suis en grande difficulté.' "About that...um..." I felt myself going num for a moment, so I walked past them out into the porch and sat on my favourite chair. They followed me and each of them pulled up a chair to face me and sat on them. I'm in big trouble.
"What happened?" Mitty asked more calmly.
"I..." I stared at the wooden flooring.
"You..." I heard Wayne say, wanting me to finish my sentence.
'Il suffit de dire qu'il.' I snapped my head and blurted out: "I left him behind." Just say it, force it out.
I spotted the two gawking at me.
"I left him...behind...last night during our mission."
"Why?" the blond managed to say. "Why did you leave him there?"
"Because..." I propped my arms on my thighs. "...I had to--"
"You had to? You had to‽" Wayne repeated, beginning to grow in ire. "Give me one reason that's good enough that made you leave our leader in the villain's headquarters!"
"Ugh, it's complicated, okay?" I shot back.
"Everything we're doing is complicated, Captain," he growled. "Nothing can't be more complicated than what we're dealing with."
"Look, I left him and there's nothing we could do about to undo it, okay?" I shrugged.
"Yea, but now there's less of us and more of them! Now we have to add on to the list of our captured friends!" Wayne threw his hands in the air.
"Our? Our friends?" I placed my hands on my chest. "More like your friends. I don't even know the people we're trying to save!"
"Well guess what, Captain?" He stuck his face into mine. "I don't know all of them either! But why are we doing this? Because we care! We're selfless! We put others before ourselves! And we never, ever leave a partner behind like what you did!" He backed away with narrowed eyes and a frown.
I swallowed with shock. I had no idea how to compete with what Wayne laid out because what he said was true and what I did was selfish. I did it for my own sake, not for other's and now we got another load to take care of with less of us to do it. I sighed, dipping my head down. "Look, I'm sorry, okay...I was selfish for leaving him behind. I won't do it again." I gazed back up at them.
"Sorry won't cut it," the blond snapped back.
"Wayne!" Mitty gasped. "At least he apologized!"
"He freakin' doomed our leader, that's what he did!" he shouted, extending a hand at me. "Now we got no one to plan our mission and heaven knows if Toosk's still here or not! And if Pierre already got ahold of him, then we're screwed for life!" I sprawled out on his chair, looking up. "We're doo-omed."
"Well, remember you told me that Toosk escaped from Kari's trap once? He can do it again, right?" Mitty reminded him.
"Yea...but this is a setback--" He straightened up. "--we could've gotten what we wanted if it wasn't for you--!" He pointed an angry finger at me while leaning towards my direction.
"Wayne, we already know, stop it!" the brunette told him as she pushed him back to his chair. "Look, we already know that this is Captain's fault, but if we keep on accusing him and thinking about what we have to go through now, it would not help at all. We need to go on without Toosk, we can't give up now."
"So what do you have in mind to make this work?" Wayne muttered, crossing his arms.
"We need to make a plan to go back into the headquarters and get Toosk and the plans."
"Are you crazy?!" the blond cried. "We couldn't get the plans alone with the four of us, you think we could get two things with the three of us?!"
"We didn't get Pierre's plans because the plan didn't go as planned. We luckily escaped as it was going downhill," Mitty explained, gazing at Wayne. "But Captain--" She turned to look at me. "--for this plan to work, you must use your powers."
"No." I closed my eyes and shook my head. "No way."
"If he's so stubborn about not using his powers, he can go grab Toosk from Pierre since he's 'Pierre-proof,'" Wayne pointed out.
My eyes widened. "You want me to go face-to-face with Pierre?"
He shot me a dirty look. "Either that or you use your powers!"
"Fine!" I threw my hands up in the air. "I want to make up for what I did, so...I'll save Toosk."
"Good choice."
Mitty darted her eyes at Wayne, telling him to shut up with her facial expression. She turned back to me with a sophisticated look. "So you'll save Toosk and we'll go grab the plans. Okay?"
I nodded my head. "It's the least I could do."
"Awesome." She smiled. "We'll execute this tonight at the cliff same time as last night." She turned to Wayne. "Wayne, we'll do the same thing to grab the plans as last time, except we'll go through the front, not the back--the back was where all the guards are at night."
The blond nodded his head. "Sounds good."
"Alright!" Mitty pumped a fist in the air. "We got things straightened out, we came up with a plan of our own-- See, we can do this!"
"We're still gonna let Toosk do this job though when we get him back, right?" Wayne asked.
"Haha, definitely. This is an emergency, so it's an exception." She winked.
"Good." He nodded his head, then landed his eyes on me. "Don't back out now, okay? Remember what happened last time...!"
I sighed and nodded quickly. "Alright, I won't. Trust me."
