Chapter 23//Belief
Hoseok left Hana's house in a rush, not really paying attention to where he was going. Luckily he didn't face any mishaps on his trek home. It would have been easy for him to have been in an accident with the distracted mindset he was in. A few motorists had to honk their horns in order to stop him from walking through the busy traffic. Hoseok was too caught up in his own thoughts to react much, and he had only looked at the motorists with a bewildered glance.
He opened the apartment and found Jimin sitting on the couch.
Hoseok would normally have just nodded in his younger roommate's direction or completely ignored him and went about his business, especially with the current tensions between the two of them. However, Jimin locked his gaze on his hyung as soon as the door had swung open, and it was hard for Hoseok to ignore Jimin's expression. His usually small and crescent-shaped eyes were narrowed and his mouth was set into a stern frown.
Usually, Jimin and Hoseok got along very well.
However, lately, Jimin had grown tired of Hoseok's actions.
Especially with how he had been treating Hana.
******
Jimin admired and looked up to his hyung a lot. The way Hoseok loved and served other people with abandon inspired him. He knew that Hoseok's job wasn't an easy one, it obviously came with a lot of emotional baggage. He saw the weight that hung heavily on him, weighing his shoulders down. He saw the tired eyes and dark circles from too many sleepless nights away from him. He saw the weight his friend would lose while away from giving his food to someone else too many times.
Hoseok was selfless wherever he was.
When Jimin had wanted to move away from the college dorms, Hoseok had been the first person to offer to be his roommate. Hoseok had always been there to help Jimin with his college assignments and to critique his dance technique honestly.
Their relationship worked out so well because they had so many similarities. They both enjoyed making others happy. They both loved to dance and music. They both had insecurities that they pushed aside in order to help encourage others.
However, they didn't always get along. But of course, no two friends ever get along all the time.
Hoseok had a tendency to hide his feelings from those he loved, especially from the one he loved the most. It hadn't happened all of a sudden, but gradually as he'd continued to travel and work. Slowly, Hoseok had begun to shut people out.
Including Jimin.
Of course, it hurt the younger, more sensitive guy.
What hurt him the most though was seeing Hoseok shut Hana out.
It didn't take a high amount of perceptivity for someone to see how much Hoseok loved Hana. Jimin had picked up on his friend's sentiment the first time he'd been around the two of them together.
It was also obvious to him that Hana felt the same way about Hoseok.
Neither was willing to admit it though.
That was why Jimin always flirted with Hana. He thought she was a beautiful person, but he wanted Hoseok to act on his feelings.
However, other than that, Jimin didn't like to get involved in the pair's business. He believed that if things were meant to be, they would be.
Lately, though, he was growing worried.
Especially after that day he'd watched Hana run out of the apartment close to tears. He knew that Hoseok was going to push her away for good if they kept going on like this.
He had hoped that things would be settled between Hoseok and Hana when his hyung had left that morning. However, the phone call he'd received from Jin Myung had revealed otherwise. Jimin had heard the notes of frustration in her tone as she'd recounted the argument Hana and Hoseok had been in yet again. Jimin had resolved to confront this hyung as he listened.
He didn't like confrontation, but for Hana and Hoseok, he could do it.
******
Jimin didn't say anything to Hoseok at first as he sat on the couch. He knew that his expression was showing his displeasure, he could read it on Hoseok's face.
For a few moments, the two just stared at each other until Jimin decided it was time to talk to him while he was still standing there.
"You have to stop this hyung."
"Stop what?"
"Don't play dumb Hoseok," Jimin shook his head at Hoseok's lame response and stood from the couch. He began to pace the living room as Hoseok continued to stand in the apartment entryway. "You need to stop pulling Hana around like this. It isn't right." Jimin watched as Hoseok set his jaw.
"I'm not tugging her around, she's the one he keeps asking to see me Jimin." Hoseok's voice was low, and Jimin could tell that he was pushing him past frustration and to full-on anger. Both Jimin and Hoseok were intimidating when they were angry, which wasn't often, but it wasn't wise to push either of them to that point. However, Jimin continued.
"Yes, you are. You can't expect her to not be worried about you, not after all the time you've been together."
"Well Jimin, she doesn't have to stick around. In fact, it would be better for her if she just cut ties with me." Hoseok's volume was reaching higher volumes, but so was Jimin's.
"We both know that isn't true. Hana cares too much about you to just give up on you Hoseok. And if you truly love her, you won't give up either!" Jimin's words were caused by silence to hit the room. Both men stood to study each other for a moment. Hoseok felt as if he'd been punched in the face, and Jimin was growing nervous that he'd gone too far.
For a few moments, the two stood silently, allowing themselves to calm before they responded.
"After today, I don't think she'll try to save me anymore." Hoseok's voice was resigned and detached. Jimin could hear clear notes of fear and despair in his friend's voice. It worried him. Surely Hoseok didn't believe that.
"Then I guess you don't know Hana as well as I thought you did." Jimin looked at Hoseok's eyes and saw a pain that scared him. However, he knew who Hana was.
He knew she wouldn't give up, and he had to trust that.
He just hoped she would be able to break through to Hoseok soon.
A/N: I hope this gives a bit of insight into Jimin and Hoseok's relationship!
Please eat well and take care of yourselves!
