ch2-Lotus Hotel And Casino

The car came to a halt I opened the door and stepped out, Bianca followed after me. It was past dusk almost night. In front of me stood a large building probably a hotel. Loud music was blaring out. The entrance was a huge neon flower, the petals lighting up and blinking. The glittering chrome doors were ajar, spilling out air conditioning that smelled like lotus blossom and to tell you the truth I had no idea how I knew that.

The lawyer ( at least that what he claims to be ) who escorted us here told us that we're in a place called Las Vegas.

It's been three weeks since the incident that changed our lives, three weeks since Mama's death. One stupid line of electricity that's all it take to destroy three lives. Why did it have to be her out of hundreds of people in the entire DC? why their hotel? why?

To say that the events of the next few days were blurry would be an understatement. Honestly, the last thing I remembered was the hotel going up in flames and then everything's black. The doctor said it was due to trauma. Sure there was the stress, in fact I was terrified but that does not explain the black out. There was something else ; something deeper ; something darker. Did i mention I hated dark stuff?

Bianca and I were rescued by the fire fighters or so we were told. They were surprised we hadn't burned completely let alone the fact that we were alive. We were taken to the hospital from which this lawyer guy took us from hotel to hotel and now this bank trust is paying for us. Fishy even for my standards.

Bianca is determined to not shed her tears in front of me but at night when she thinks I'm asleep ( how can be asleep when the second I close my eyes night mares creep their way into my mind_ nightmares of that day ; of her screams, telling us to run away) I could hear her weep. Better to hear the cries of my living sister than my dead mother.

Our luggages which included two back packs containing two sets of cloth for both of us bought after the 'accident' was carried inside by some hotel staff and we followed the trail of what little property we owned.

I would've said I'd entered heaven if not for the extremely loud music. Not that it was bad it's just like it quite - more than before now. The whole lobby was a giant game room. From old school video games to at least forty floors tall water slides to wall climbing and bungee jumping. Basically, you name it and this place had it. And for the first time in weeks I smiled " Wow".

A bellhop practically materialized out of no where and started blabling   " Welcome to Hotel Lotus And Casino Here's your room key Just go to the top floor room 4000. If you need anything call the front desk. Here are your LotusCash cards. They work in all the games and rides. " He handed us each a green plastic credit card. "Off you go"

Bianca muttered a "uh..thank you" to the bellhop before we headed to the elevator. I won't lie but i'm pretty sure we waited for at least a couple of minutes in there. When we finally entered our suite I was dumbfounded. It totally looked like as if we had traveled to the future with all its machines and majestic decoration and guess what there was a television too. That would be the first time I actually saw one in my entire life , not that it was long , I was barely ten years old .....ok nine but I'd be ten soon.

There were two bed rooms. I went for the small blue one while Bianca carried her back pack to the silver-ish room. There was a huge window with a beautiful view and a large bed. At the corner there was a refrigerator stuffed with food, now you need to know this about me- I Love Food.

As I looked around my room I found all the wardrobe packed with expensive clothes, peculiarly all my size. Suspicious.

This was undoubtedly the best hotel we have resided in till now.

My thoughts continued to wonder until I heard Bianca's muffled sobs. Earth to Nico. At first I felt guilty for forgetting about her but soon the guilt changed into worry and I hurried to her room.

She was sitting on the bed holding mama's picture. I wondered where she got it from, I thought all her memories burned down with our previous residence. I don't really like pictures I mean how can you capture a moment in still images. Without the emotions, the thoughts a memory doesn't mean anything.

I slowly approached Bianca and sat down beside her. My vision blurried as my tears threatened to spill and I didn't bothered to stop them. I wrapped my arms around her and held her tight like she held on to me like the day our lives went up to flames. The memories of that day started to surface up. I missed my last home though I only lived there for a couple of months I grew fond of it. It was the last place all three of us were together as a happy family. I felt safe there safer than now.

Time flew by and we siblings stayed like that, not moving a bit, afraid to let go of the remains of our broken family. Orphans. That's what we were. As the thought crossed my mind fresh tears tickled down my cheek tracing the line of dried up ones had left behind. Finally Bianca broke the silence.

" Go Nico you don't want to waste the few months we have here"

" But Bianca..." I started to say in my broken voice-

" I'd be right behind you" she said managing a little smile.

I knew arguing would be futile so I headed towards the door. My head was throbbing, my sight still unclear. One step at a time . Just when I reached the door I turned around and asked " where did you get the picture from?"

"I..I don't know it wasn't here when I entered but then... then when I started crying it....it was there I.." she faltered. I didn't felt right to press for more so I just left after flashing her a half hearted smile. You wouldn't have guessed it wasn't genuine if you saw it. But she knew.

After spending another couple of minutes in the gigantic elevator I finally reached the lobby. At one corner there sat a group of children play something that apparently included cards, small plastic statues and a lot of shouting.

I slowly walked towards them."Uh What are you playing ?" I managed. I've always been  good with starting conversations. That is when I wanted to.

"Mythomagic" said a girl with dirty blonde hair without even looking up from her cards " Wanna join?" she added after a while still absorbed in the game.

" Sure " I said with a shrug while sitting down on one of the empty seats. As I played a faint smile appeared on my lips and for the first time in a long time I felt happy again.
