Chapter 16
Dipper slowly grabbed the phone on his pocket.
Hey, he hesitantly texted, waiting anxiously for an answer.
Hey! Have you arrived already? Are you ok?
Actually, I'm already at the building.
Should've texted me!
Yeah, I know, but... You know, I was just thinking, maybe we could actually see each other?
What?
I don't know. I just thought it would be too weird to just say everything I need to say to a wall, you know?
You still need that hug?
Yeah...
It's ok. Just knock on my door.
Actually, I'm standing outside your door already.
What- Dipper, you gotta text me about things. Hold on a minute. I'll start making coffee before answering the door.
Ha. Thanks.
He waited for a few more five minutes or so. It didn't matter much to him though. He'd wait for hours, and wouldn't bear to complain.
He couldn't lie about how nervous he was. Perhaps, nervous wasn't the correct word to describe the feeling, though no word ever was correct to describe anything in history of little planet Earth.
The door slowly moved, making Dipper stop in time for a while. The boy, who was significantly taller than him, and wearing an old yellow sweater, looked down to him, without saying a thing.
"So... That's you," Dipper smiled awkwardly.
"My laugh theory was right," Wirt whispered, shaking his head, and giggling.
"What?" Pines laughed back.
"You know? You can't have a nice laugh and be ugly, or whatever. Uh, that didn't explain anything, did it?"
"No," he chuckled even more, "Nothing you say ever makes sense, actually"
"Oh, ok, uh. Let me think in a way of saying it... Uh," he made a pause, "I guess it means you look cute"
"You guess?"
"No, I mean it. It's just embarassing to say it to your face, ok?"
"You're even more awkward in person, did you know that?" Dipper smiled.
"Yeah. But I have coffee, so...?"
"You got me"
"Do you want that hug now or...?"
"Yeah, please"

After minutes, and more minutes of explaining, or at least attempting to, telling all Dipper had discovered about the truth, about himself, and everything him and Wirt had been stressing over for weeks and more weeks, he was finally able to enjoy a sip of coffee.
Lord, he needed some coffee.
"That's... Terrible," Wirt shook his head, "Well, we got close, right?"
"Uh, yeah. We just never thought I was the one who did it to myself"
"Look, I guess you shouldn't feel bad about it," Wirt shrugged, as he tried his best to give Dipper a comforting smile, "Of course, I mean, it's impossible not to feel bad about it, and end up having huge existential crisis, but still. Since you're so convinced it wasn't an accident, just keep in mind you had your reasons, right? And whatever they were, you decided they were the best for yourself"
"That doesn't help. It does, a little only"
"A little is better than nothing"
"You have a valid point," Dipper agreed in a giggle, glancing down to the empty cup of coffee. "It was so weird"
"What exactly? Because, there's nothing in your story that sounds not-weird"
"Mabel. The way she was talking. And looking at me, like she was pity? Sure she was, but... Why did she hide it for so long?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Wirt smiled, "She knows you. She knew you would react this way, and I gotta say, it's concerning"
