Chapter 12

The talk is something that comes, eventually, to every human being in the planet. It might be coming out of the closet for your grandparents, or telling a kid where babies come from.

For Dipper Pines, the talk was a little bit more complicated.

After all, he never had a problem with coming out of the closet, neither with telling kids the truth about those cute chubby babies.

Although, his talk was about to be the most tough thing he ever had to face in his entire life.

He knew he had been seeking truth for such long time, yet, it was all different when it came. The truth works like an old friend. You invite them for a cup of coffee, and never expects them to really show up.

It is a vague and polite invitation, it doesn't come from the deepest parts your heart has.

Mabel Pines arrived sooner than the desperate expected. He didn't bother asking what was in her pink bag, he simply knew it.

Her bag was full of ugly truths, and things he didn't dare name till that fateful day.

The only question left was if he still wanted to know. Though it was too late for doubting, or second-guessing.

There they were.

Silently staring at each other. No hugs. No "hello". No smiles. Leaving all of politeness behind, and sitting down in chairs, never daring to look away. It was time for a very long story.

"Tell me everything," Dipper finally spoke, murdering the eternal silence. "Tell me what happened. Tell me why I am like this. And tell me why you were hiding it"

"You might think I have all the answers, but I don't," she replied, looking down to her shoes. "I know what happened, I know why I was hiding it. But I don't know why you're like this. I don't even know what like this means"

"Why am I mentally fucked up?" He asked one more time, going straight into the point, and letting uncertainty and fear take over him.

"I don't know," Mabel made a pause, "But, do you want me to tell you the truth?"

"Do you need to ask me again?"

"It's your last chance to give up"

"Stop being such a weirdo, and just say it!"

"Alright," she took a deep breathe, as her mind walked through memories she had buried deep down, and as she looked up to meet her twin's eyes. They were just the same as they were ten years ago. Nothing had changed in him.

"Come on, Mabel!"

"We visited Gravity Falls for the first time. It was supposed to be a lame summer. Well, for you," she smiled, "I was having a lot of fun with the boys around here. But... You found a journal, that changed everything"

"Wait, what?" He giggled. "Mabel, that makes zero sense, I honestly..."

"Let me talk. You found journal number three. I say, I didn't believe you at first, but when I got kidnapped by those gnomes. Ugh, I just had to"

"What the..."

"They are such annoying little creatures, ew," she shook her head,"In the beginning, it was fun. We had adventures, we laughed. Even when our lives were in danger. I guess I never noticed it until later. You were always the concerned one, anyways"

"What exactly are you telling me?"

"Dipper, look at me. Not only the nightmares, but the full of fantasy dreams are real," she stopped for a while, "Gnomes, unicorns, undead, dinosaurs. They are all real things that we've lived and seen"

"Mabel..."

"They are. Grunkle Ford was never mentioned because he was supposed to be dead. He was accidentally thrown into a gate, and came back decades later. When we were at town. Grunkle Stan was arrested by the government, and... It's such a long story"

"I thought he was traveling... I... I thought he has fought with the entire family, and that was why..."

"Traveling? Yeah, right. Through weird dimensions. He didn't fight anyone, he was considered dead"

"I...," Dipper knew he had been expecting it. He knew he had his theories, which weren't much different from what he was listening, but still.

He tried to stand up, but not only gravity was pulling him down, and forcing him to stay in the couch.

His body couldn't obey to the orders his brain was giving. He silently stood sat. Speechless, trying to process the entire thing in his mind.

"The nightmares with the triangle guy. Bill Cipher. They were real. He destroyed the journals, and that's why we don't have them anymore"

"The nightmares..."

"The nightmares are completely real, Dipper," she carefully whispered, "You're not mentally fucked up"

"If it was real, then why...?"

He didn't have to finish his question. By the look his sister gave him, she was about to tell him the answer to why everything was buried inside him.
