Chapter 11
Mabel was very determined in trying to figure out what was going on in her brother's mind. Attempting to discover the weird things in his head was always fun, but at that specific moment, it was terrifying.
She knew where he was. She knew what he intended to do, and she needed, above everything, to stop him as soon as she could.
Quickly, she packed her stuff. In fact, what she did could never be considered packing. She threw coats, jeans, shoes, and everything she needed in a bag, closed it, and went to get a bus.
Her mind still couldn't figure her brother's. Something inside her always wished she did. Not because she wanted the "genius gene", but because then she'd be able to stop him from doing things without thinking properly.
He's thinking properly, she told herself, walking down the streets, in her way to enter the first bus to Gravity Falls. Now, he's thinking properly. He just won't be soon.
She felt bad that he wasn't telling her a thing, that for the first time, they were actually lying for each other. Though, deep down, she wished he could just ask her, she knew she wouldn't answer.
Dipper was Dipper, after all. Whenever he wouldn't get an answer the easy way, he'd hunt the answer down.
Mabel was never sure whether it was his best quality, or his worst flaw.
She jumped inside the bus, walking between empty seats, and taking one right in the end, near the window. She sighed, as the city started to become small, and seemed so far away. As she reached for what would be the worst talk with her brother.
The memories of that summer flooded her head. It was all so great, she didn't see that ending coming. She should've had.
He was her twin. He was with her every single moment of his life. If there was someone who should have noticed it, it was her.
And she didn't. She failed him for the first time of what would be many.
Now, while going after him, to try to keep a secret she didn't even know why anymore, she knew she was failing him again.
**************
Dipper knew his sister was coming. He knew by her tone of voice in the call. He knew by the way she ended it.
Something that had recently became usual happened again. He didn't know what to do.
He had no clue of how to act under those circumstances. He wanted to escape from her, because she was stopping him from discovering what was behind his nightmares.
He never thought he'd find himself in a journey to discover himself again, but there he was.
Dipper had never felt so useless, helpless, hopeless. He felt as a stranger to himself. Not knowing who he was.
All he knew about himself was basic. It was what the world itself was seeing. He couldn't tell what was inside him anymore, and all that mess was driving him insane.
He wanted it to stop, yet he didn't.
Thus, he did what he had been doing recently during times of need, he grabbed his phone, and quickly searched for the well-known name, not sure when that name had became his guiding light, just knowing it had.
"Why you calling me? Did something go wrong? Are you ok?" Wirt's voice asked, in the other side of the phone, confused and concerned.
"I think my sister is coming," Dipper whispered. "I'm sure she's coming. And I don't know what to do"
"What does that mean?"
"It means, I don't know if I should wait for her, I don't know if I should hide. I don't know what she wants"
"You told me you knew her better than you knew yourself. Think"
"I don't think I know her anymore," he sighed, "I don't even think I know myself anymore"
"Look, you're two grown ups, right?"
"Kind of"
"Yeah, you are. You can confront her, and have the talk you two have been needing for a long time," he made a pause, "Or you can keep running away from your problems. Anyways, she can't stop you from finding yourself. Unless she shoots you, but I don't think she'd do it"
"So, you're saying I have to stay?"
"I'm saying you should stay. And then all me right after the talk. I need to know everything"
"Curious little bastard," Dipper giggled, "Ok. Gotta it"
"Ok, so... Goodbye?"
"Uh, wait, hold on," he said hesitantly, "Thanks"
"For what exactly?" Wirt laughed softly.
"For, I don't know, believing me, I guess. This all is starting to sound insane, but you're still here. There, I mean. So... Yeah, thanks"
"I wouldn't doubt a strange neighbor, ever," Wirt joked, "You're welcome"
"I'll call you after the talk"
"Please!" The boy in other side of the line made a pause, smiling to himself. "Goodbye"
"Bye!"
