70

A war cry that was not a cry, but a statement that would lead to the end of days that many knew. Greediness had led them all on the rooftop to have death stare them in the face in forms of weapons of all sorts. Two sides separated themselves, thinking they were much different from each other. They waited patiently and fearfully for what was only a matter of time. In the middle of it all two brothers held hands, unsure of what their next step would be. They knew what was to come, but they also knew that it wasn't a route they wished to walk down. Many were going to be lost whether they liked it or not, there was no way around that.

"Take your sides, sons."

They were out of time, and by the look of everything, out of choices.

"Take sides!"

The boys turned to each other, uncertainty filled the eyes of only one. Jihyun was afraid while Jimin had accepted what was. He squeezed the younger's hand before pulling him in for a hug. Tightly he held onto the young man who once had laid in his hands when he needed protecting in the world. Jihyun didn't need him, but Jimin needed him. He loved him too much to live without him in what cruel world they were in.

"Do you remember how you said you wanted the throne?" Jimin whispered softly to his brother who could only be confused as to why minutes away from one of their ends this had to be brought up. "And I said I wanted to see you try?"

They both turned their heads to look at their father, the man that sat on it.

"Well... I don't want to see you try." Jimin smiled at his brother, a tear falling to his cheek. "I want you to live a real life."

"What are you-"

"Sohyun's downstairs, take the envelope, and don't come back. Go live, Jihyun."

"I'm not leaving you-"

Jimin put his hand to the side of his brother's head and kissed his forehead as he shook from the overflowing emotions. It was what was best, even if it meant having to say goodbye to the person he loved most in the world. Just like he had no other choice, he had no more time to mourn in his brother's presence. He whispered three loving words and pushed him back, then turned to face the man that had brought them to the very moment.

"Let D-Day begin! May the best of the best serve the throne!"

The father smiled. "Finally son, you see it must be survival of the fittest. Now take your sides, and begin. May the best continue life as they know it."

One last squeeze was given to Jihyun's hand, but it did not suffice. Jihyun threw himself into his brother's embrace. The eldest savored the last seconds he had of his brother before pushing him away and nodding to him, letting him know that it was okay. They took their sides, staring straight at each other. For the last time they understood each other without words.

D-Day had begun.

The first shot of firearm came from one of the brothers. It did not point to the opposing side, but to the throne. Jihyun ran the other way as soon as the swift movement of his brother's arm came up and pointed the gun. He did not look back to see the hole in the body of his parent. By the time everyone had come to the realization of what happened, the youngest was gone.

No one moved as they watched the mother's blood stain spread throughout the dress she wore. She stared down at it, then at her son who had done the deed. She lost control of her legs and fell, her eldest son ready to hold her. Attention had turned to the father who's eyes had widened and rage began to fill them. He reached for the gun and pointed it to return the gesture to his son. His shot missed as the doer of the deed was pulled out of the way.

A loud demand that led into chaos was screamed, but Jimin could not hear it. After the sound of his shot, his ears had decided to block out just about all sound. He was in too much shock to fully comprehend that he was saved from death by a harsh tug and taken to safety behind a vent that served as his shield. He was in disbelief with himself.

He had shot his mother.

He didn't want to do it, but he had to. Jihyun was his justification for such a hateful act. Like his mother had abandoned her two sons to take care of one, Jimin had taken action to ensure the safety of his youngest brother. Perhaps, he should have shot at his father. Perhaps, but hatred led his hand and madness his finger on the trigger. There was nothing he could do now, but accept his deed and hope it served its purpose.

Jimin had become so lost in his own thoughts that he ignored the hands shaking him by the shoulder and the adoring term being used to call out for him. Yoongi was screaming over the loud sounds of chaos for him to respond, but that wasn't what had brought attention to him. His face was not what it had been last time the two had been together. He had cuts and bruises that were accompanied with dark memories of how he got them.

"I'm sorry... I know it's my fault."

A cold hand softly caressed the cheek of the injured man. Jimin blamed himself for the state of the other.

"Doll, now isn't the time. We need to get you out of here. Daehyun arranged for Sohyun to be downstairs with my car to take you, okay? Go to t he shop and call my sister, she can help."

Jimin shook his head. It was too late for that. He had talked to Sohyun on their way there and had her promise to leave without him if Jihyun showed up first. Along with the promise to get him out of town, he handed her the envelope Daehyun had left him for when the time came. The time did come, but he wasn't going to be the one using the ticket out. He was unsure of how things would end, but he was sure that his brother's safety would be put above it all.

"Fine...Joon's car is here. Take that-"

Yoongi was cut off by the harsh shove he received from Jungkook coming to shield himself. The boy was sweating and panting. He wore a long sleeve that had been sliced along with the skin beneath it. He tried to recover his breath as he leaned with his back to the hard surface shielding them.

"What the hell happened to you?"

Jungkook chuckled as he held up his arm to get a better look at the cut. "I got in the middle of a knife fight Taehyung was having with some guy. Hurt like a motherfucker. Who would know a fly knife hurts worse than a grounded one? Well I guess I do now. "

The boy threw his head back and laughed. He poked his head to get a look at the action. Ready to get back in it, he prepared to dash out of the hiding spot. Jimin who had finally come back down from the shock, held him back. His finger pointed straight ahead to a building much higher than the one they were where two snipers were aiding them. Jungkook should have been there yet there he was with a gun in hand and cut on his arm from being too close to the action.

"Why aren't you there?"

"Jihyun. I needed to make sure I could be there if he needed me to be. Thank you, for letting him go." Jungkook smiled sadly.

"I didn't do it for you."

"I know."

Jimin realized something in that moment. He may have not let his brother leave for the boy in front of him, but he had let Jihyun get away with something he was going to need more than his older brother.

"Get the rest."

From the waist band of Yoongi's pants came out his gun and a heavy sigh from him. He braced himself as he ran into the fight in search of the rest of their family. Jimin could only pray he'd return with them all so he turned his attention to Jungkook.

"I'm going to get you out of here and you need to go to him. "

"It should be you-"

"No, it needs to be you. You've done a much better job at taking care of him than I have. Look where we are right now. I need to finish this, but I can't unless I know my brother will be okay if I don't make it out of here. Can you do that? For him?"

The younger did not hesitate to agree to do just that then to engulf the other in a tight hug that was short lived because Yoongi had succeeded in bringing half to their shielded area. Hoseok and Taehyung were missing, but promised to be there soon. Namjoon and Jin who did show up showed signs of physical hits to their bodies, but nonetheless they willingly agreed to participate in a plan to get Jimin out of there. The fight was no longer just about serving the throne, but bringing the possible murder to the throne so that he could be dealt with there.

The plan was simple. They were to get Jimin to the stairs where Jungkook would accompany him to Namjoon's car while the rest tried to restore some order. They found no other way than to destroy the throne completely. They wanted peace and it would be brought with murder to end the chaos. They would attempt to reason with the father, but if things could not play out such way then killing him would be the only way. Who was to do it would be decided once Jimin was gone. They apologized to him for he would have to lose a father, but they were losing friends and family. It was the only way.

Details of their plans were interrupted by Taehyung who crawled his way into their space, dragging Hoseok's body along with him.

"Couldn't duck in time." He explained as he pulled his shoe off and then his sock. "What's the plan?"

While the sock was being used to help stop the blood from flowing to the wound Yoongi explained once more. They were all in agreement that they were to get Jimin out of there and take down the man that had started the fight in the first place. He was hidden somewhere on the rooftop, but the space wasn't endless so it was a matter of time until they found him. Namjoon and Jin were the first to leave so to be in the front to help from there when the time would come. Taehyung and Hoseok would stay to be their back up from behind due to the one's injury. Yoongi and Jungkook were to stick by Jimin's side until the time came for them to say goodbye. They would be side by side for a bit longer, but everyone decided now was the time to say their farewells.

"It's been a privilege to call you all family." Namjoon said with a smile. "May we reunite as so very soon."

Everyone gathered for a final hug. They enjoyed the last minute together as the family they were then watched the first two leave.

"It's time, doll."

The lovers joined together for a hug that was clearly a goodbye from one, but not from the other. A few tears were shed in the short time. While one knew it wasn't going to be him leaving, the other did not. However, despite knowing they'd be at each other's side longer than Yoongi thought, Jimin wondered whether the two could walk out of this together or at all. He made sure to let his love for the other be known in sweet words of reassurance and gestures. They joined their hands together seconds before they were to step out.

"We'll make the heart again soon, alright doll?"

The heart that formed with the joining of their hands were kissed before they two did so themselves. They stepped out in the fight with Jungkook leading the way. They were quick in their steps, wanting for Jimin's presence to be acknowledged once he was too far. Gun shots went off, punches were thrown about, and some things even flew from side to side. Men and women showed injuries of all sorts. Some recognizable faces were motionless on the floor while others attempted to pull them into the safety. There wasn't much time to continue watching the fight because someone screamed out for all eyes to look where three were closing in on the stairs.

It wasn't a mystery who was the man being shielded by two bodies given who those two bodies were. All defenses turned towards them, determination to bring out who was asked of from the throne. Panic arose in those whose simple plan had just gotten more complicated. However, Jimin did not hesitate to let his presence be clearly known. He saw guns pointed his way until he felt one against his back. Then he heard it. And finally he saw who held it.

It was Yoongi.

"Daesung!Come out or I shoot your son!"

Everyone seemed confused, probably because those close to Jimin looked just as them. This was never discussed as part of the plan. Those who had been present during the arrangement watched with wide eyes of confusion as Yoongi pushed him forward, towards the throne.

"Yoongi...what are you doing?"

"What I should have done from the very beginning."

The father watched calmly as his son was brought to him. He knew how things would play out. Now Jimin was afraid. He stopped right in front of his father who while angry to see him also appeared to have some happiness from his presence. It was explained when a harsh blow was delivered to his face.

"If your mother dies, so will you."

"She's still alive?"

"If your brother gets her to the hospital in time, she might just be. Now go sit and wait for me to end this. You come back with me." The father sighed heavily. "Yoongi you delivered your end of the bargain, and I know I will mine. Leave before I change my mind."

Jimin's eyes widened as he looked back, his face still stinging from the harsh slap to his cheek. "Yoongi...what's he talking about?"

"I'm so sorry, doll."

"Yoon-"

"Family first, remember?" He looked down. "Joon get the boy and head to the car."

Jungkook looked over to see Namjoon's confused yet movement towards him. They weren't going to let him go. He screamed curses and called them all traitors his words did not flow. Next he was throwing punches and kicking like a child. It was hard to watch. While he fought his battle on the sidelines of it all, Jimin had begun a fight of his own.

"No one gets left behind or forgotten...what happened to that?"

"And we won't forget you. Now end this, doll."

It was unbelievable. The guilt on Yoongi's face made it impossible to believe it was all an act. The face of a traitor was clear through the shaky movements and mourning face of a loss. Jimin could not believe it, so he didn't.

"You're lying! Just kill him already so we can leave!"

Yoongi had already turned his back.

"Min Yoongi!"

He was walking heavy steps towards those unsure of the actions they would take next. The betrayal of his lover hit Jimin so much more than that of his family. He could not think straight. The actions unfolding were incomprehensible in his brain. Before he reached a point of sadness, he became angry. He was mad at Yoongi for being a coward and not having what it took to face the man that had them facing each other off. He was angry that he could not fight for both of them, and cared more for his safety than his lover's. Jimin was so angry that he snatched the gun from his father's waistband and used it to bring Yoongi's cowardly steps to an end.

The man fell to the ground, blood spilled from the hole created in his backside.

"My son..."

The speechless father remained just that as he could not be given the chance to realize all that was unfolding so quickly. Next thing he knew the same gun was being held to his head, and the crying eyes of his middle child looked into his.

"Why did you have to do this!? Why couldn't you just be happy with the family you had!?" Jimin screamed, slowly inching his father back. "Were your children not enough for you!?"

"Son, think about what you're doing-"

"Think about what you've done! Think of the pain and misery you've caused us all while, you what? Probably relaxed on some beach with your wife while you two sons suffered and the third bathed in your attention and enjoyed it because of what you did to him! Junhong didn't deserve what you both did to him and neither did Jihyun and I! Your wife didn't deserve what she got when she got with you! No one who has ever fucking crossed paths with you deserved that! Why couldn't you just be a father!? Why couldn't you just yell at me for being out too late or spending time on wasteful things in life!? No, instead you let me make family with a bunch of fucking cannibals!"

They were now nearing the edge. The father's eyes were filled with fear as the ledge was only steps away.

"Jimin, I'm your father."

"No! You are no father just as your wife is no mother."

"I will be better, that's why I did all this. I did all this so we can all be a family, with Junhong back at our side where he belongs. I may have hated the ways things turned out, but I knew with this business all my sons had all taken an interest in,  we could run it together as one family. With no rivalry there would be no fights, we'd all be happy. We'd be wealthy and the biggest problem we would have would be expansion which we could do together. Jimin don't do this...think about your family."

"My family...my family is leaving this town as we speak. My family are those men standing behind me with my love in their arms as he bleeds from the wound I caused. My family are those you have tried to kill so that you can do what you've always done, do what benefits you without the thoughts of others in mind. What makes you think I want to be in a family with you?"

"Because you are my son."

 Jimin shook his head.

"Around the time you disappeared I received a note asking for me to choose to kill the man, the father, or the husband. I choose the father. Consider your children dead, Daesung."

"My son, you cannot mean that-"

"If you don't leave now, I will not only kill the father, but also the man."

Daesung looked into the eyes on the brim of unleashing madness, understanding very well that the threat was a serious one. He looked to the man who was no longer his son, just a man that he shared blood with. He decided only one death should involve him on that day, the death of a father.

What was left behind on the momentous day were wounds, some that would last maybe years at most and others a lifetime. The loss of lives was marked that day as well. The biggest change of it all came to be who sat on the throne that would lead the expansion of an empire that those before him could not accomplish.
