(Whoop and this book is off hiatus now)
"What do you mean the School Play has the same night as Home-coming?" Puck gaped at Mr.Reyes.
"It's just how it is!" Mr.Reyes huffed at Puck, crossing his arms, "With budget cuts, we're forced to tail-cost Homecoming and hope some kids come if they get bored from dancing- which happens quite often!"
"That's stupid." Puck scoffed.
"'Mrs. Dubois!"
"Sorry, but it's true. Kids aren't coming to Homecoming for a show, they're coming to get stoned and make-out."
"That is not true!" Mr.Reyes glared.
"You're right, there's also the lonely ones who purposefully wait at the side of the dance and look all wistful as if somebody'll come and pick them up off their feet." Puck shrugged, earning a murmur of approval and agreement from the theatre kids.
"Well despite all of your nonsense, the date is set! This Friday! Be ready!" Mr.Reyes concluded before stalking away to get a hot pocket.
Puck rolled her eyes before making her way to one of the theatre's front row seats, unconsciously tapping on the arm rest of the chair.
It was Saturday and there was still play rehearsal, and while not everybody showed up, Christine's screams of joy, for being able to be in the theatre over the weekend, could still be heard echoing through the rafters of the stage and the theatre itself. Puck was surprised to hear the screams come nearer until she looked up to see Christine right in front of her, causing her heart to jolt in surprise.
"Puck Puck!" Christine grinned.
Puck was called this frequently by Christine as she was playing the Puck in the play, she didn't mind it all that much, but coming from Christine it made her cheeks dust with a light tint of red, the girl's voice was annoying as hell, but Puck wasn't blind, "Yes?" Puck sighed.
"Aren't you just so excited for this Friday!?" Christine threw her hands up in the air happily.
"Missing the school dance...to be all sweaty in a costume...when I could be at home or- I don't know- at the dance? Yeah, sounds like a blast." Puck sunk down in her seat with an unamused expression.
"Aw, cheer up!" Christine sat down beside Puck, "It's not like you were going to be asked anyway!" She smiled.
Puck flinched, turning her head slightly to where Christine was sitting, "Excuse me?"
"I mean, you haven't been asked before and- by the looks of it- you hang out alone at break and lunch, who would ask you?"
Christine was honest. Brutally honest.
While some might tolerate this, which Puck usually did, today was different, today Dustin wasn't going to be here, so they couldn't talk, so they couldn't resolve whatever...yesterday was, today Puck felt something different in her heart, today Puck felt confused, and she needed to let this out on somebody;
Poor Christine was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Puck stood up, her fists clenched at a flurry of emotions that started to rise that she didn't really even realize existed, "What the hell, Christine?" She turned on her heel to look Christine dead in the eye.
"Wh-What'd I say?" Christine swallowed nervously.
"Maybe someone will ask me, you don't- know! You don't know my life or- whatever!" Puck was stuttering, she didn't know what to say or do, she was just flustered, which prompted her next action.
Nobody had done this.
Ever.
To Christine at least, of all people.
Yet here Puck was, flipping off Christine.
Christine looked in utter shock and disbelief before letting out a small whine.
Puck felt guilt pool in her stomach before she felt a hand grip the wrist that the risen middle finger belonged to.
"What do you think you're doing?" A growl sounded beside Puck.
Puck looked over to see who had grabbed her wrist, excepting to see Jake Dillinger, but utterly surprised when she met the glaring eyes of Jeremy Heere.
Puck had known Jeremy, not in a friendly way, but also not in an unfriendly way either, she just knew that he was an absolute geek, this however, this was not the Jeremy that she had seen or heard of, and it freaked her the hell out.
Puck tried to pull her wrist away from Jeremy but he had a surprisingly tight and strong grip, "Listen, man, I was just..." Puck wasn't quite sure what she had been doing.
"Just?" Jeremy's eyes narrowed.
"Mr.Heere!" A booming voice came from being Puck and Jeremy, prompting the both of them to turn around quickly, causing Jeremy to release Puck's wrist.
"What is going on here!?" Mr.Reyes glared at the two students.
"Puck-!" Jeremy began before he was interrupted.
"I irritated Puck and Jeremy was simply defending me." Christine stood up.
Mr.Reyes kept a tight hold on his hot pocket as he looked at each student carefully before scowling and turning around, "I have no time for this mediocre activity...get to work! I want to see blocking for scene three!"
Puck looked over to Jeremy, cringing at an eery blue glow in his eyes that slowly began to fade before he walked away.
Dustin
————
Dustin lay on his bed, his knees held to his chest as he thanked the lord above that it was Saturday, prolonging the inevitability of humility on Monday. Dustin couldn't even look at his phone in fear of hearing the gossip that was sure to be spreading like wildfire at the moment. He didn't want any of this...if only he had kept his stupid trap shut...he still didn't understand why he had been so open with Puck...but nonetheless, what had happened had happened...the most he could do was wait and...wait...wait.
What if Puck hadn't told anyone yet?
What if she was waiting to tell the school in person when Dustin was there so she could humiliate him in person?
There was still time...
There was still time!
Though there was a problem, where would Puck be on a Saturday?
Dustin thought on this for quite some time before Puck's name gave him the answer.
Play Rehearsal.
That was exactly where he'd be going.
