Dustin walked down the hallway of the high school in awkward silence beside Puck. He had his left hand in his pocket and his right at his side where Puck was walking silently there.
Finally Puck broke the thickening quiet tone, "So are we actually going to break into the health office or...just go around the block to CVS?"
"Break in." Dustin stated quite surely.
"Oh, wow- um- okay...won't someone notice?" Puck cocked an eyebrow.
Dustin glanced at Puck, "Like who? Jeremy? I'm sure he's too busy fawning over Christine to notice us at all."
"Oh my god, right?" Puck let out a short laugh, "It's like he's obsessed with her!"
Dustin smiled a bit at the fact that he and Puck could relate over this, "I'm not even in drama and I can tell that that guy is head over heels for her."
"And Christine doesn't even realize it!" Puck scoffed.
"Right? And they hardly even know each other!" Dustin rolled his eyes.
"Exactly!" Puck grinned at Dustin.
"Who would be as daft as to not know that someone else like that liked them?" Dustin grinned back at Puck, though all of a sudden Puck's smile seemed to falter and she looked away, leaving Dustin to wonder what he'd done before he looked up and saw that they were nearing the health office entrance.
"How do you suppose we'll get in there?" Puck halted at the door that led into the health office, folding her arms over her chest before wincing as she accidentally squeezed her wrist just a bit too hard.
Dustin began to shuffle in his pocket before retrieving a key and sticking it into the keyhole of the door.
Puck's eyes widened, "Whoah, how'd you get an all access key?"
Puck bit his lip and stopped from unlocking the door, "Uh just..." He felt his heart rate pick up, he hadn't the need to tell anyone or explain this to anyone before..., "Just...access to the teachers' bathrooms um, I guess..."
Puck paused before realization hit her and she slowly nodded, "Oooh..." Again there was silence.
Dustin turned to finish unlocking the door before sighing and allowing the key to sit in the keyhole as he put his arms to his sides and turned to Puck, "Listen, I really don't want to just um...to pretend like yesterday didn't exist."
Puck nodded slowly once gain, "Okay..."
"...I just..." Dustin put his hand on the back of his neck and bit his bottom lip, feeling flustered and confused.
"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to!" Puck added hastily.
"No, No. It's fine, it's why I'm here actually." Dustin gave a weak smile.
Puck furrowed her eyebrows in confusion before connecting some dots, "That's right...why were you just- randomly waltzing around the halls? It's a Saturday, on the drama department should be here."
"I...was really afraid of you telling someone," Dustin murmured.
"...About?" Puck questioned; she wasn't an idiot, she just wanted absolute clarification as she saw this as a touchy matter.
"About my-...for lack of a better word, my episode yesterday."
"Oh...yeah." Puck leaned against the wall of the health office.
"So I came down to the school because I knew you had said something about weekend rehearsal at some point and- I just wanted to stop you from...doing anything...I guess- telling people about me, that is." Dustin pursed his lips together tightly as he awkwardly swayed from heel to toe.
"Why would I do that?" Puck glanced at Dustin to make eye-contact, looking a bit confused and a bit hurt at the fact that Dustin had been so convinced she would do such a thing.
"It's just...I haven't known you for very long and- you seem like a great gal, Puck..." Dustin paused as Puck looked down at her feet, "It's just really hard for me..."
Puck was silent before looking down the hall, "What would you have done if I had told someone?" She asked quietly.
"D-did you?" Dustin's heart began to pick up pace.
"You still don't believe me?" Puck frowned.
"It's hard!" Dustin defended himself.
"Well, I'm telling you now that I didn't tell anyone." Puck crossed her arms.
"How do I know you won't tell anyone in the future?" Dustin fretted.
"I guess you'll just have to trust me." Puck shrugged.
"Yeah...?"
"Yeah." Puck nodded, "Now give me your arm."
Dustin shook his head in confusion, "E-Excuse me?"
"Did I stutter?" Puck raised an eyebrow.
Dustin stiffened up, "Sorry I-"
"Relax, Ponytail, I didn't mean it, I've just always wanted to use that phrase." Puck smirked.
"Oh- right..." Dustin felt heat gather at his cheeks.
Puck pulled a pen out of her back pocket before grabbing Dustin's wrist gently.
"Wait- Puck- please don't." Dustin before to pull his hand away.
Puck pulled up Dustin's sleeve and let out a small sigh of relief when she saw his skin seemed to be flawless...flawless? Flawless, was that the right word? Was that really the first word that came to her mind? Why was she just standing here? Write you idiot! Puck blinked out of her daze quickly before scribbling something onto Dustin's arm with the page, causing the boy to let out a small, pitchy giggle before he slapped a hand over his mouth and looked away and Puck pulled his sleeve down.
Dustin winced and looked away, narrowing his eyes.
"I like it." Puck gave a small smile.
"What?" Dustin glanced over at Puck slightly.
"Your laugh, I like your laugh."
Dustin was positive his face hadn't been hot a minute ago, but either way, it was now, "Oh...thanks." He smiled in return.
"Now, let's get to that health office." Puck turned towards the door where the key had been discarded in the keyhole and unlocked the door, holding it open for Dustin while looking into the dark rooms of the health office.
Dustin looked down at his arm, pulled his sleeve up just a tad bit to find a number written down...Puck's name was at the top...and there was a...
Squiggle?
It almost looked like she had written over a heart.
