CHAPTER FOURTEEN ━━
unveiling secrets
═════ ∘◦ 👻🔦🧸.༄ ◦∘ ═════
HE WAS BACK, BACK TO A PLACE HE HATED MOST AND while the people who inflicted pain on him might be gone, the memories certainly weren't. He hadn't uttered a word since he was led inside by some of the doctors who rushed Will away, Bob and Joyce quickly following while Mike remained closer to him for some reason. And Jim was already whisked away by some people to make sure he wasn't a hazard to their health after being down in the dark tunnels for so long.
It didn't take long for one of the doctors to come and get Joyce, leaving the three males alone with Will's comatose body.
Zero had been sitting on the ground, his body pressed against the cold wall, partly hidden in the shadows to hide away from anyone working in the facility. It may have been re-made and been cleansed but somehow he felt like that little boy again forced to obey Brenner's every command.
How could these new doctors even understand anything that came from the Upside Down let alone help Will. Zero himself couldn't even graps the concept and he had been there on numerous occasions.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door and everyone looked up to see yet another doctor standing in their door. It was a woman, tall and slender with dark brown hair and a clipboard in her hand. She looked around the room carefully like she was looking for something.
And it turned out she did, her grey eyes landed on him after a moment and she gave him a tiny smile to ease his nerves but he only wished he could dissapear into the wall right there and then.
"Did you find out what's wrong with Will?" Bob broke the tense silence and the woman turned her attention to him.
"I'm not here for Will." She replied calmy, sparing a fleeting glance at the unconscious boy before looking back at Zero. "I was wondering if I could borrow him for a minute?" She asks pointing in Zero's direction.
"Why?"
"Just a routine check up." She shrugged and Zero slowly turned to look at Mike, the only other person who somewhat knew about his past with this place. "It'll only be a minute." She added.
Unsure, Zero rose to his feet hestitantly before walking towards the woman. She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, guiding him through the door but he still tensed under her hand. "We'll back before you know it." She assured Bob who looks concerned at Zero's nervous face.
Zero catches only a glimpse of Will and Mike over his shoulder before he is whisked away to the place where his nightmares began.
They silently walk down an abandoned corridor, only the soft humming of the artificial light and the soft clicks of their shoes echoe through the hall.
But Zero was almost certain that his heartbeat could be heard from miles away right now. It was rapidly beating inside his chest and he looked around like a scared animal.
Just when they were about to turn the corner, a door in the room behind them opened and two man walked out followed by Hopper. The man was dressed in a hospital gown and he looked a bit dazed around him before his eyes fell on the blonde at the end of the hallway.
"Hey! Hey! What are you doing with him?! Milo?!" He shouted out as the doctor beside the blonde pushed him further to make him walk again. "Where are you taking him?! I asked you something!" Jim struggled in the firm grip of the man beside him bit Zero had already disappeared behind the corner.
"That's my boy! Hey assholes! Let go of me." He grunted finally getting free and he ran down to corridor and looked around the corner where the blonde teen went only to find it empty.
He turned on his heel, a scowl etched on his face. "Where is he? Where did you take him?!"
"Trust me." Owen replied calmly. "He'll be back before you know it."
"But right now, I have a present for you" he added holding out a hazmet suit for the man to take.
Meanwhile Zero found himself in a small room there was a metal table and two chair on either side. The blonde sat in one while the brunette doctor in took a seat in front of him.
He nervously played with his hands, an almost unnoticable tremble still present. He had his gaze focused on the door, like he expected Brenner to walk through any second.
"I know you've been here before." Her voice was soft, melodic and calming but despite it he still felt scared of the woman in front of him. "Different things happened around here then." She continued finally gaining the boys attention.
"You were the first one, number zero." She said softly, a sorrowful look on her face. "Zero they called you right?"
The blonde looked up from the table, staring directly in her eyes, which looked sad and had a hint of pity in them.
"Am Zero." He nodded in confirmation, his voice rough, like he tried to refrain himself from crying in front of her.
"That's not your real name now is it?" She asked before bending down to grab somehing from the ground.
Zero remained silent as he watched her place a brown file on the table in confusion and eyed the document with curiosity.
"When we took this facility over, we found some questionable things, most files had been destroyed or remain hidden but we did find this." She opened the file and there was his face, only much younger smiling happily as he clung to a man's neck.
It didn't take long for the boy to realise who it was. It was the man from Will's tunnels, the one they called Hopper. The boy blinked, reaching forward to take a closer look at the photo. His finger traced the shape of his face in wonder before looking back up at the doctor in front of him as she gave him a sad smile.
"Do you remember when that photo was taken?" She inquired watching him carefully.
There was nothing.
He couldn't even remember it, and it irked the boy to no end but he shook his head nontheless.
"That's alright" she assured him. "This photo was taken a week before you went missing."
"Missing?" He looked up in surprise.
"On the second of August, Milo Hopper vanished without a trace."
Zero furrowed his eyebrows hearing that name again, something deep in the corners of his mind was screaming at him. You know who it is!
"Zero, you are Milo Hopper." She stated when he remained unresponsive. "That man in the picture. He's your dad."
Slowly Zero reached for the picture again, trying to remember. He desperately wanted to remember a better time. The time in the photo where he was smiling and laughing and happy.
Unexpectatly, another photo fell form the file, one where he was sitting on the grass, hair dripping wet and swimming trunks on. Sitting in his lap was a much younger girl with blonde hair and a familair facial structure.
And something clicked inside of him
"Sara..." he breathed out, the name feeling familair on his tongue.
"What did you say Milo?"
He doesn't respond for a moment, not used to people calling him by that name, a real name.
"Sara." He spoke up louder this time. "She is Sara."
"Do you remember her Milo?" The brunette asked, eyes gleeming with curiosity.
"No." He shook his head. "Just name. Just Sara."
"Okay." She nodded. "Well she was your little sister."
"Was?" He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"She died sadly."
"Oh."
