A Winters Ball

(A/N: Cursing, sexual tension, etc etc. in this chapter)

Odessa was running late to the next days practice. Really, really late. Practice had started at about noon and it was now almost three. It wasn't her fault though. Her alarm went off at almost 11:30, and as she was scrambling out the door to get to practice, her landlord showed up to inform her that they were selling the floors of the apartment they own and that Odessa had approximately a week and a half to find herself somewhere else to live before they apartment would be sold and rented out to someone else.

So after that, and a huge argument with her landlord over the situation she was put in, Odessa walked around New York looking for a new apartment close to the theatre but to no avail. After her failed attempt at finding an apartment in her walk, she sighed and headed towards the dancing studio with her head hung low.

When she entered the dance studio, everyone's head whipped towards the door and their eyes went slightly wide. Odessa knew why, she was never late and she looked a mess. Her short hair was sticking up, she was dressed in a pair of jogger that were slightly falling off her hips and a shirt that was too big on her, but it was tied up in the corner and her hip was slightly exposed.

Lin walked over to Odessa and pulled her towards the corner, his face showing how worried he was about the girls lateness.

"Odessa, what's wrong? You're never late."

"I just.. I got kicked out of my apartment this morning and I was trying to find an apartment close to the theatre and near where I live now and I didn't know how late it was. I'm sorry, I'm really sorry." Odessa mumbled quietly. Lin gave the girl a sympathetic look as he placed his hand on her shoulder and nodded his head.

"Do you have anywhere you can stay?" He asked, and Odessa shook her head slightly and shrugged her shoulders.

"I have a week and a half to find somewhere. I'll be fine. I'm sorry I was late today." She said and Lin nodded his head.

"It's completely fine, I promise." Lin said. "Do you want to join rehearsal or go apartment hunting?"

"I wanna stay at rehearsal, and then I'm still coming out with you guys tonight. I need it now more than ever." She said with a chuckle, attempting to lighten the mood but Lin only gave her a slightly sad look but nodded his head.

"Okay, if you need to leave at any point, just let me know."

"I will, and please don't tell anyone why I was late, I dont want everyone knowing and feeling bad for me."

"Of course." Lin said as he turned towards the cast and clapped his hands. "Okay, beginning of Helpless!"

The rest of the rehearsal went smoothly, Odessa mostly keeping to herself and away from her friends so that she could try to keep her thoughts collected and keep from having a panic attack. She was beyond nervous, she was scared. She really wasn't sure where she was going to go, but Des continued to try to reassure herself that she would be able to find somewhere still near the neighborhood that she was oh-so fond of.

As practice ended, Odessa slid out of the studio and walked back to her house. She had managed to avoid Diggs the entire practice, and slip out the door without him noticing her. Of course last time she had managed this, he had just followed her out and driven her home. But this time, Odessa walked the entirety of the way home with her hand gripped tightly in her hand, scrolling through different apartments in New York.

When she got back home, she walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower, jumping in and washing her body, along with her hair. Once she felt clean, she got out and wrapped a towel around her torso along with one around her head and hair.

Odessa exited her bathroom and picked up her phone off the counter, sending a quick text to Jasmine to ask what club it was that they were meeting at before she put her phone back down and went to her bedroom.

She got dressed in a black dress that hugged her body in all the right way, cutting off about midthigh. After that, she went into her bedroom and started to apply more makeup that she had worn in the weeks prior due to always being active and doing some sort of physical activity. But tonight, Odessa was going to look as best as she could just because she felt like it. After she was done, she curled the top of her hair and walked back to where her phone was.

Jasmine had texted her back the name of the club and saying that they were meeting around 9-10, that anytime would be okay to show up though. Checking the time and noticing that it was 8:30, the girl slipped on a pair of heels and grabbed her purse, throwing her phone and other things she would need in it before she exited the apartment.

After about a twenty minute drivr, a few wrong turns and a lot of cuss words, Odessa pulled up to the club that Jasmine had said in her little beat up car. She got out of her car and flashed the bouncer her ID to get in, and once she was inside she glanced around the club for anyone she might know, spotting Chris and Lin from across the club. She made a quick V-Line to them, tapping on Chris's back to get his attention.

Chris flipped around and his eyes went slightly wide as he saw Odessa. He couldn't deny that Odessa was pretty from day to day, but she looked like a completely different person tonight. "Wow, Odessa. You clean up nicely." He said and a small blush formed over the girls cheeks.

"Oh, thanks Chris." She said happily as she flashed him a smile. "I'm gonna go get a drink, please don't move so I dont lose you guys." Odessa yelled over the music. Chris and Lin nodded her head as Odessa made her way up to the bar, offering a Jack and Coke mixture. The bartender smiled at her and took the money from Odessa for the drink.

The girl turned on her heel and sipped on her drink as made her way back over to the hamilton cast group which had slightly grown, adding Anthony, Jon, and Thayne to the group.

"Damn, Dessa!" Jon said, nodding his head up at her and snapping his fingers in a joking manner.

The girl chuckled quietly and nodded her head at him, taking a sip of her drink. The music of the club was causing her drink to move slightly and a vibration inside of her chest but she wouldnt have had it any other way. The group stood around for a little bit, bullshitting back and forth and waiting for more people to arrive.

Once Jasmine and Pippa finally showed up, Odessa was dragged out to the dance floor where the three girls danced in no particular style or with any form of actually trying, their drinks held in the air. Odessa threw her head back laughing as she danced crazily with the girls.

As she was dancing, she felt a hand brush against her backside, placing a small smack against her bum. But, the girl decided to ignore it due to being on a crowded dance floor. She continued to jump around and dance with the girls.

It was around 10:30 when Daveed finally showed up, dressed in pair of demin pants that had holes where his knees were on both legs, and a flannel short sleeve button up with the top couple of buttons unbuttoned. He glanced around and made his way over to Anthony, Lin, and Oak once he saw them.

"Yo!" Daveed said as he slid beside of Oak, everyone in the group smiling and waving back at him.

"We got you a drink, but Anthony drank it already." Lin said, laughing as Anthony threw his hands up in a defense motion.

"I did no damn thing!" Anthony said, slurring over his words slightly. Daveed only chuckled as he nodded his head and headed towards the bar, ordering a random drink and paying for it before making his way back to the group of men.

The group laughed and joked for a little bit, Daveed throwing back drinks with the rest of them as quickly as they came, before Anthony leaned over towards Daveed and let it a drunken laugh. "Have you seen Odessa yet? She looks really hot."

Daveed's fist curled at his side as the word "hot" and Anthony face instantly went red and he shook his head frantically from side to side.

"I mean hot in the most platonic way possible. She just cleaned up really nicely." Anthony screamed over the music as he looked back to the dance floor, eyes scanning over the crowd until he saw Odessa. He instantly pointed in her direction and Daveed's head followed his finger until his eyes landed on Odessa and he choked on his drink.

The girl was swaying her hips from side to side, her body pressed up against some random guy. Her hips moved slowly with his from side to side and Daveed's grip of his cup tightened as he watched.

For a few more moments passed and the song ended, Odessa laughing quietly as she attempted to move away from the guy. But the man reached forward and gripped onto Odessa arm tightly and pulled her back against him, the girl starting to struggle to get away from him. His hands were trailing from her arm down across her body, but he held her tightly against his body.

At this point, Daveed placed his drink down as calmly as he could and walked across the room to where Odessa and the stranger man was. The girl had managed to get out of his grip and was pushing the man back when Daveed arrived and he stood beside of Odessa.

"Daveed?" She asked as she glanced over at him, he had his arms crossed across his chest as he stared down the man she had been dancing with.

"Odessa, go over there with Jazzy and them. Please." Daveed said, his voice barely reaching over the music. Odessa pulled her head back in shock and raised her eyebrow.

"Who are you to tell me what to do?" She asked, and Daveed let out a low chuckle. The guy she had been dancing with motioned towards Odessa before starting to talk.

"Oh, is she yours?" The man asked, chuckling quietly. "Better keep your slut on a leash. If she keeps dancing like that with random gu-"

The guy didn't get to finish his sentence becauze Daveed's fist flew out and connected with the man's nose. Odessa and a few people around them gasped as the man stumbled backwards, his hands instantly going up to his nose.

"Dude, what the fuck?!" The guy shouted at Daveed, who pushed Odessa behind him slightly.

"Don't you ever disrespect her like that again." Daveed said, venom pouring from every word that he said. The guy pulled his hands away from his nose, his palms covered in blood from his bleeding nose. The guy attempted to swing at Daveed, but the taller of the two simply put his hand out to hold him back until Daveed took a step back and the man fell foward onto the ground. A few people laughed when he fell, but Daveed turned around and grabbed Odessa's arm, pulling her toward the exit.

The girl was barely able to stand, stumbling behind him and whining quietly. Daveed rolled his eyes as he pulled her out of the bar and down to his car, opening the door and slowly putting the girl in. He put her seat belt on and while he was leaning across her, the girl reached up and touched his scruff lightly.

"You're cute." She giggled out, and Daveed chuckled, shaking his head.

"You only think so because you're drunk." He said softly as he got out, shutting the door and walking over the drivers side. He was a little tipsy, but having hit that guy and knowing he had to get her home made him sober up.

Once he was inside the car, Odessa looked over at him, giggled and leaned over, putting her head on his shoulder but still looking up at him. "You're so cute. I miss you." She said.

Daveed chuckled, starting his car and heading towards his apartment. He decided to take her to his apartment so he would be able to make sure she was okay until the morning. He glanced down at her for a second, before his eyes went back to the road.

"Oh do you now?" He asked, and the girl started to nodded her head quickly.

"A lot! I'm just scared you're gonna leave again!" She said as she sat back up in her seat, placing her hands in her laps. As they pulled up to a stop light, Daveed glanced over at the short haired girl sitting beside of him and he shook his head slightly.

"I'm not going to, Des." He said quietly and the girl shook her head quickly from side to side.

"You said you werent going to last time!" Odessa said, shrugging her shoulders slightly. "And you did! You chased her all the way out here without even so much as a goodbye to your life long best friend!"

"I'm sorry." Daveed said as he pushed on the gas, driving through the intersection.

"You keep saying that, but how am I supposed to know that you're actually sorry? You fucked me, and then left not even a week later with a girl who didn't love you. Avoided me that entire week, made me feel like I did something wrong."

"I know." Daveed said softly.

"I've been doing so good without you, almost completely over everything. But no, here you come back into my life." She said, balling up her fist at her side. Daveed pulled his car up in front of his apartment and sighed quietly.

"Where are we?" Odessa asked as she looked over at his apartment building.

"My home. I wanted to make sure you were somewhere safe for the night since you got wasted." Daveed said, and Odessa scoffed quietly as she fumbled with her seatbelt, attempting to get out of the car. Daveed rolled his eyes as he got out of the car and walked over to her side.

He opened the door and Odessa started to flail her arms at him, hitting his arms slightly as he unbuckled her and helped her out.

"I don't need your fuckin' help!" Odessa shouted and Daveed rolled his eyes again as he picked up the girl, holding her bridal style in his arms as he carried her to the elevator. She continued to hit his chest as they stood in the elevator. "I don't need you to look out for me!"

"Uh huh, you did tonight at the club. That guy had his hands all over you and you didn't know how to handle the situation." Daveed said as he unlocked the door to his apartmemt with one hand, placing the intoxicated girl on the floor inside the apartment.

"I didn't fucking need your help Daveed. I could have taken care of it and myself!" Odessa said as she stormed towards through his apartment, unaware of where she was going but attempting to get away from him, though Daveed was following quickly behind her.

"What was I supposed to do? Let that bastard put his hands all over you?" Daveed shouted back, Odessa rolling her eyes as she turned around to face him. The alcohol in her system was doing nothing but making her angry now.

"I can fucking take care of myself Daveed. I had it under control." She said, her hands balling into fists as she did.

"Oh that's exactly what it looked like. A drunk bastard had his hands all over you. His hands were all over what's mine and I don't fucking share."

"What's yours? I'm not yours. I'm not your fucking property." She said taking a few steps closer to Daveed, staring up at the man as he stared down at her.

"He had his fucking hands on you Odessa. He was touching you places no one else should." Daveed said, attempting to calm down but only getting more angry at Odessa's words.

"Maybe I fucking wanted him to touch me, Daveed! Newsflash, I'm not yours! We're not dating, we're not even fucking friends anymore. You lost the right to call me your anything when you fucking abandoned me." Odessa said, and there was a small silence between them before Daveed grabbed the girls hand and flipped her around, pushing her back against the door (but not enough to hurt her) and he leaned down beside of her ear.

"You are fucking mine." He said before he pulled back for a second, the tension between the growing as their bodies were pressed up against each other's.

"No, I'm not."

"Yes you are. You always have been." Daveed said as he leaned down, placing kisses and nipping at her neck, the girl quivering under his touch.

"No, no I'm not." She said, her hand reaching down and brushing against his lower region slightly. A low groan passed his lips as he met eyes with the smirking girl, his hand pressing up against the wall beside her.

"You wanna play this game? We can play this game."

"What game?" Odessa asked, a challenging tone in her voice, causing Daveed to growl slightly.

"Take your fucking clothes off."
