Chapter 39

Paula drove me home the next day and the first one to greet me was mom with dark circles under her eyes.

"Mom," I say as she rushes to give me a hug.

"Oh, I was so worried!" she says, hugging me tightly.

"W-where's dad?" I say even though I know that he was at work.

"He's at work," she replies as I nod. "How are you? Are you fine?" she says, pulling away but keeping her hands on my arms.

"Yeah," I say.

"Why do you smell like," she leans in to give my shirt a good sniff. I back away a little.

"Stop it, mom. It's weird," I say, trying to escape the situation.

"Y-you smell like cigarettes," she says as I felt my heart skip a beat.

"Paula and I walked around yesterday at a park and there were a bunch of guys smoking beside us," I lie and she just looks at me with concerned eyes.

"I head from Paula that you probably fainted because of the smell of cigarettes. Was it because of those guys?" she says and I can't believe she actually bought that.

"M-maybe," I lie.

"Didn't I tell you that if you spot someone smoke a cigarette, keep away from them?" she says and I just nod.

Well, guess what, mom. I myself smoke one.

"Okay, you can now go back to your room," she says. "Remove that shirt off of you. It smells so bad!"

I run upstairs and strip off every clothing I was wearing. I jumped on my bed with only my underwear on and I can't help but sigh in relief. I burrow myself under my sheets and closed my eyes shut when suddenly someone started knocking on the sliding door in the balcony.

I get up to see who it was. I wrapped my blanket around my body before sliding the door open.

"Why are you here?" I hiss as he just laughs, brushing his long hair behind his ear.

"I kind of missed you," he says with a sheepish grin.

I step aside to let him in and closed the door behind him.

"Why are you wearing a blanket around you?" he asks.

"I'm not wearing anything underneath," I admit and that's when he smirked. "Oh, shut up," I tell him.

"Yeah, I better," he says before lying down on Chelsea's bed. "Why is this bed so bare?" he asks as I swallow nervously.

"It's for my cousins who might come over," I lie.

"Then why doesn't it have any sheets at all?" he asks and I just sigh as I lie down on my bed, careful to not let the blanket around me open.

"Shut up," I say jokingly as he suddenly stands up and gets on top off me.

He pins my hands against the bed and I can feel my heartbeat become faster.

"W-what are you doing?" I say as he places his body on top of me.

"I kind of missed this," he says, wrapping his arms against my waist and placing his face in my neck.

"You're the one who said to stop all these messing around shit," I tell him even though I know myself that I want to mess around with him just as much.

"Do you want to stop?" he asks and I can't bring myself to say yes.

We just both keep silent when suddenly someone knocked on the door. I sat up abruptly and accidentally kicked his stomach with my knee.

"Ouch!" he yelps and I just cover his mouth. The blanket around me soon got off and I can feel his eyes travel my whole body.

"Yes?" I call out, not bothering to wrap the blanket around me.

"Do you want to eat?" mom asks through the door as my body shake with nervousness.

"Uhm, no!" I say as loud as I can.

I can feel her finally walking away but then she stopped.

"Are you talking to someone?" she says, walking back to my door.

"No!" I say right away.

"Oh, okay. I thought I heard someone," she says before walking away.

I sigh in relief and glared at Kite. His eyes didn't mine because he was staring at my body.

"Stop it!" I say, squeezing his cheeks and forcing his face to look at me.

"Stop what?" he says, acting innocently.

"You know what you're doing," I say before standing up and grabbing a shirt. I put it on and went back to my bed.

"Why'd you put on a shirt?" he says and I just kicked one of his legs.

I put the blanket over my legs and lie down on the bed. He lies himself down beside me and turns his body to me.

"How are you and Cole?" he suddenly asks.

I suddenly remember Cole. I haven't talked to him ever since the day he knocked on Kite's car window.

"Why are you even asking that?" I say with an irritated tone and I'm pretty sure he didn't miss this because he looked hurt.

"Why shouldn't I?" he says in a duh tone.

"You know what, I don't think I even want to see your face anymore," I say, suddenly feeling so annoyed.

He looks at me with a blank face and I can't help but want to take back what I said.

"Okay," he says before standing up.

"Wait," I say, trying to grab his hand.

He soon opened the sliding door and got out. I stood up and watched him get off the high balcony like some knight that tried to rescue a princess from a high tower.

The only difference is the knight is leaving without the princess. He's leaving the princess to suffer in the tower forever alone.

Maybe Kite wasn't the one who would save me from this loneliness. Maybe we weren't even supposed to meet at all.

Maybe no one would be able to save me anymore.

Maybe it was my fate to suffer my whole life.
