CHAPTER 8

"And maybe when you wanna start growing up, we can boom boom boom maybe fall in love"
You Gotta Not- Little Mix

It's seven thirty and I'm already dressed up waiting for Sheldon. I'm putting on a little red dress my sisters made me wear and moderate makeup which I did myself because I would never let my sisters do my makeup, ever.

'Wow Leigh, you look amazing. I can't wait for Sheldon to see you,' Mary-Anne says and winks at me.

'I have to say we did a really good job, you really do look amazing Leigh,' Bonnie-Anne says, scanning me from head to toe and back again, standing akimbo and nodding her head in approval.

'Thanks to my mini glam team,' I say and hug my sisters.

'Don't hug us! You'll ruin your makeup.' Mary-Anne gently pushes me away and dusts my dress.

I laugh. 'Oh come on, it's not like you're covered in mud.'

'Whatever, just don't ruin your outfit,' Bonnie-Anne says.

'Now what do I do for the next twenty minutes?' I ask rhetorically.

'Pictures!' Mary-Anne screams and takes her phone out of her pocket. 'Pose for the camera.'

I sigh deeply and strike a few poses for her. 'Awesome poses Leigh,' Bonnie-Anne says and stands beside me drinking chocolate shake.

'Can I see them?' I ask.

'Sure, you look so cute in them,' Mary-Anne says and skips towards me but accidentally pushes Bonnie-Anne whose chocolate shake spills on my dress. I gasp, Bonnie-Anne screams and Mary-Anne screams even louder.

'Mae! You just ruined Leigh's dress!' Bonnie-Anne scolds her.

'It was an accident. I am so sorry Leigh, I didn't mean to, I swear--' Mary-Anne apologizes but I cut her off. There was no time for this, I only had fifteen minutes to get changed. Luckily, my makeup wasn't ruined as well.

'It's okay Mae, I know you didn't do this on purpose but right now I need to get changed quickly,' I say and head for the stairs.

'I'll come help you,' Mary-Anne says and is about to follow me.

'Haven't you done enough for tonight, do you also want to ruin her second outfit you dimwit?' Bonnie-Anne asks.

'Who're you calling a dimwit you dimwit! I wasn't the one who had to drink chocolate shake standing so close to Leigh,' Mary-Anne fires back.

'I didn't know you were gonna bump into me you twit.'

'Well you shouldn't have stood so close to Leigh you fool.'

'And you shouldn't have bumped into me, you could've just walked over to her, we were in the same room you dumbo.'

'Why were you even drinking chocolate shake anyway?'

'What sort of a question is that?'

'It's a question that needs an answer, you birdbrain.'

'That's it, I'm calling you out bitch. You ruined Leigh's dress for her special date and now you're trying to fight with me about it.'

'You just called me a bitch you---' Mary-Anne says and plunges towards Bonnie-Anne. They start fighting and continue their exchange of words as I rush upstairs to get changed. I can't settle them now, if I do, I'll miss my date and probably get admitted into the hospital and I can't afford either so, no thank you.

I come downstairs dressed in all-black; a strapless jumpsuit with cute pumps and a designer handbag. My sisters are still fighting and cussing each other, they have already messed up my living room and are heading towards my kitchen. There's absolutely no way I'll let them fight in there, my china and champagne flutes are in there.

'Bonnie and Mae!' I call out and they stop fighting immediately.

'Oh my god I'm so sorry Leigh, I didn't want to do this but Mae pushed me to,' Bonnie-Anne defends herself.

'Pushed you to? Really Bonnie, you're gonna pin this on me? Leigh, she started this,' Mary-Anne also defends herself and I roll my eyes very visibly at them.

'I don't care who started this, the point is, you're both in it. Just look at what you two did to my living room, and all because of a dress. The dress is mine and I'm not even mad about it. You're sisters, you shouldn't fight like this, instead you should try to be more understanding towards each other and show love even when you're upset. I never fight with you even when I'm super mad and that's because I love you so much. I know you love each other but fighting over meagre things like this shows otherwise and it's not fair, to yourselves and to me because I have to play the peacemaker and it's not easy. Please don't fight, especially in my absence, please. Even when things get annoying, just play it cool and settle it peacefully like matured adults and there would be no need for fighting,' I say and the looks of remorse on their faces makes me smile with satisfaction.

'We're so sorry Leigh for everything, you've done so much for us, we promise never to fight again,' Bonnie-Anne says.

'You made this promise last time and I wonder what happened to it.'

'We mean it this time, no more fights,' Mary-Anne says.

'Good. Now, apologize to one another.'

'What? Why?'

'Don't make me put you on the next flight.'

'I'm sorry Mae, I shouldn't have called you a dimwit in the first place,' Bonnie-Anne starts.

'Apology accepted. I'm also sorry,' Mary-Anne says and they hug.

I clasped my hands together with delight. 'Good. I'm so happy you two stopped fighting and made up, it makes me glad to see you two on good terms.' A car horns and I glance at my watch, eight o'clock. Eight o'clock!

'Sheldon's here!' Mary-Anne screams.

'Okay, I want you two to clean up this mess before I get back and I better not see anything out of place when I get back, alright,' I say and hurry out.

'You look stunning Leigh!' I hear Mary-Anne shout after me.

Sheldon is leaning on his car and quickly stands upright as soon as he sees me. Is the Prime Minister coming behind me?

I smile brightly at him and he gives me back an even brighter smile. 'Good evening gorgeous,' He says and bows as he kisses my hand.

'Good evening handsome,' I respond, 'you are right on time.'

'I would never miss a chance to be with you,' He says and squeezes my hand.

'Well, shall we?' I ask and he opens the door for me to enter the car and then gets in.

'We shall.' He starts the car.

Out of the corner of my eye I see my sisters looking through the window and I smile. Oh Bonnie and Mae.

'Can I turn on the music?' I ask after we've only driven for two minutes.

'Sure,' He says without moving his eyes from the road. I turn on the music and Rolling In The Deep by Adele comes on. I sing along softly. I am a huge fan of Adele although we've only met a couple of times on formal occasions but I love her music.

We didn't say anything to each other throughout the drive. Sheldon finally pulls up to a building and parks the car properly. We get out out of the car and I take a good look at the building- it's big and exquisite and all the cars parked around are posh. Sheldon comes over to me and smiles when he sees that I like the place.

'You've been here before?' He asks.

'No.'

'Alright, let's go.' He takes my hand as he leads me inside. The interior is even more astounding than the exterior, and the arrangement and decoration is so professionally done. The place is dazzling even the floor is so shiny I can almost see my reflection and there is soothing music playing in the background.

People start to turn their attention from their food to us. I wonder if they are staring at the handsome man beside me or if something was wrong with my outfit. Soon everyone in the restaurant- even the employees, start staring at us.

'I think they're staring at you Miss pop star, you may probably have to sign a couple of autographs,' Sheldon leans down and whispers to me.

I hate it when people stare at me, but I just flash my best smile at them and wave. 'Well, as long as none of them are obsessed fans.'

A smartly dressed waiter walks up to us. 'Good evening, would you like a table?'

'Of course not. We would like a double bed please.' Sheldon puts his hand over my shoulder the waiter chuckles.

'I am very sorry sir, you made a reservation.' The waiter looks at the list in his hand. 'This way please,' He says and leads us to a table.

Sheldon pulls out the chair for me to sit. 'Thank you.' I smile. He is such a gentleman. I pick up the menu and grin as I immediately find the dish I had in mind.

'Already having a good time?' Sheldon asks as he watches me.

'No, I mean, yes, yes I'm having a good time.'

'Glad to know.' He drops the menu and so do I.

Another waiter strolls over to our table and lazily takes our orders. She looks at me, then at Sheldon and back at me again before she leaves. What's up with her?

I sniff the flowers at the centre of the table, mmm, they're fresh and well taken care of. I look at Sheldon who is already smiling at me. 'I see you love flowers.'

I try not to blush under his stare. 'I do.'

'You look gorgeous.'

I couldn't stop myself from blushing this time but I just smile to cover it up. 'You look dashing,' I say in return.

We stare at each other for a whole minute before Sheldon breaks the silence. 'So tell me, how did you and my mum become friends?'

'When I moved to my house a year ago, she came over with freshly baked muffins just to welcome me to the neighbourhood.' I laugh. 'She was always very good to me so I grew fond of her and she takes care of me whenever I fall sick. She is like a mum to me, we just get along pretty well.'

'I'm not surprised. My mum gets along pretty well with nearly everyone she meets and you seem like the kind of person she would vibe with,' Sheldon says as he drinks some water.

Moments later, paparazzi are taking photos of us and a middle aged man, probably the manager, sends them away and walks over to our table.

'I apologize for the disturbance, these media people always like to stick their heads into where they don't belong.' He smiles at us.

'I can assure you they won't be gone for long.' I smile back at him.

'I'll make sure of that.' He looks at the door then back at us. 'Enjoy the rest of your evening.'

'Thank you,' I reply as he leaves then the waiter brings our food and serves us. She looks at Sheldon, then at me and back at him again.

'Can we help you hun?' I ask, irritated.

'No, I'm sorry,' She blurts and hurries away.

'So, where were we?' Sheldon breaks the silence.

'We were talking about how your mum and I are friends.'

'Let's not talk about that anymore. Let's talk about you.'

'Me?'

'Yes, you,' He says and flutters his eyes at me. I can't help but laugh, he almost looks like a girl.

'Okay, so what about me do we talk about?'

'Anything and everything. Let's start with the things you love.'

'I love singing and dancing.'

'Of course you love singing and dancing, Leigh-Anne, you're a pop star. Come on, tell me something else you love.'

'Okay, I love cooking, I love braids, I love pie, I love being punctual, I love driving which is why I never hired a driver, I love my family; my mum, my sisters and my best friends.'

'You must be a family person.'

'I am. My father's been estranged from us ever since I was a kid so it's just been my mum and my sisters, they're all I have and I love them so much.'

'My dad was also estranged from us since I was little so it's just been my mum and my brothers. Sometimes she wishes she had a daughter to cheer her up, we were a real handful.' He laughs. 'How many sisters do you have?'

'Two, we're triplets actually.'

'I also have two brothers, and we're triplets.' He smirks at me. 'Looks like we have a lot in common.'

'Yeah, we do. What're their names?'

'Shawn and Shane.' Shawn? Could that be Bonnie-Anne's boyfriend? Maybe he isn't the same Shawn. I shrug and brush off the thought. 'What're your sisters' names?' He asks me.

'Bonnie-Anne and Mary-Anne.'

'Bonnie-Anne.' Sheldon echoed. He sounded like he was trying to place the name.

'You know her?'

'No, but my brother's been dating a girl named Bonnie-Anne for some time now, talks about her all the time. Maybe she's the one?'

'My sister's been dating a guy named Shawn for some time too, she's probably the one.'

'Does that mean you'll be my sister-in-law?' I laugh at his question, hoping it's a joke. 'Alright, can we stop talking about our siblings' relationships and eat our food?' Sheldon jokes and we continue with our food- it's delicious by the way.

After our meal (including dessert because Sheldon insisted we had dessert), the waiter brings our bill and Sheldon pays her and tips her, then her face lits up. 'Thank you sir.' She grins and leaves.

We talk and laugh for a while until Sheldon looks at his watch and decides it's time for us to leave. When we stand up to leave, something catches his eye and I turn to see it's the piano, or the pianist, I don't really know what he's looking at. 'I want to hear you sing,' He whispers to me.

'What?'

'I want to hear you sing.'

'What do you mean?'

'I can play the piano while you sing. It'll be fun, come on.' He takes my hand and leads me to the piano. He says something to the pianist who then leaves and comes back with a microphone, he smiles at me as he gives it to me and I reluctantly take it from him. Sheldon takes his seat and gestures for me to start singing. Is he for real?

He doesn't even wait for me, he starts playing the tune of Hello by Adele and smiles at me. I turn around and everyone is already looking at me, waiting for me to sing, after all, I was the one holding the mic. I drop my handbag on the piano and take a deep breath then start singing from where Sheldon gave me a signal. Most people start taking photos and recording videos of me and I just smile at their cameras. I glance at Sheldon and catch him staring at me, he smiles at me and I smile right back.

When we're done, we get a standing ovation and Sheldon stands and holds my hand as we bow. The manager runs to us looking so excited. 'Wow that was amazing Miss Leigh-Anne and Mr Sheldon, you really thrilled our customers and they are very happy. Perhaps we could book a gig with you?'

'Thanks for the offer sir but we really need to take our leave now,' Sheldon says and takes my hand as we leave. 'You were really amazing back there, you have such a lovely voice,' He says to me once we were outside.

'You were really amazing too, I didn't know you knew how to play the piano.'

'And I didn't know you could sing so well.' He looks into my eyes. 'You have such mesmerizing eyes.'

'And you have the most beautiful smile.'

'Your smile is more beautiful, it drives me crazy.'

'Sheldon...'

'I mean every word I say. I love you. You're beautiful, you're nice, you have a big heart, you're everything Leigh-Anne. You're always on my mind and I can't seem to shake you off of it no matter how much I tried. I guess this is what they call love at first sight.'

'I guess it is,' I say. 'I love you too Sheldon, I love you.'

He moves closer to me and wraps his arms around me and draws me even closer, we are so close I can hear his heart beat. I also wrap my arms around him. The electricity our bodies produce would be enough to power a house. Then out of nowhere, just as we were about to have our first kiss, an elegantly dressed woman bumps into Sheldon.

'What the--' She stops on seeing Sheldon. 'I am so sorry, I didn't see you standing here.'

'It's okay.' Sheldon tries to brush it off but it seemed she seriously wanted to flirt with him.

'Oh, no, I am really sorry.' She put her hand on his chest, glancing briefly at me but deciding to go ahead with her task. 'By the way I'm Ava and you are?'

'Taken.' I step in between them, looking her in the eye. 'Why don't you try flirting with someone who'll love you for your plastic nose and oversized lashes,' I snap and take Sheldon's hand as I walk towards the car. I hear her scoff and murmur but I honestly don't care. I may have been a bit rude - which is not in my character - but she deserves it.

'Put her in her place much?' Sheldon says as we get in the car. I turn on the music and When We Were Young by Adele comes up. Wow, he must be an Adele fan too. 'By the way, how did you know her nose was plastic?' He asks amusedly.

'It was looking a bit deformed so it was kind of obvious it was a nose job gone wrong.' I shrug indifferently and he chuckles. When we get to my house he parks the car and comes out to open the door for me.

'Thank you for an amazing evening. When are we doing it again?'

I giggle. 'Soon.'

'Can't wait.'

'Me too.'

'Good night gorgeous.'

'Good night handsome.' He enters his car and I blow him a kiss as he drives off. I smile sheepishly, it was indeed an amazing evening, thank goodness paparazzi didn't ruin it.

As I walk up to my porch, a pungent smell attacks my nose and I become alarmed. What have my sisters been up to? I quickly enter my house and I freeze. What the hell!
