Chapter 19 || Falling ungraciously for the enemy
Kaynath smiled as she followed Anya along. It seemed she was in a better mood now. Wait, where were they going anyways? She abruptly stopped and watched Anya walk without once turning back.
Stupid girl, if she walked with someone, she was bound to lose them.
As Anya reached the bend in the road, she finally did look around. There was a healthy three metre distance between them. "What are you standing there gawking at? Your feet fail you?"
It seems she imbibed some of Kaynath's snarkiness.
"I mean..." Kaynath looked around. "Where are we going, anyways?"
"You're not going to find out if you just keep standing there," Anya called out as she made the turn and disappeared.
Kaynath hurried along and then felt her leg twist. Oh, Allah. She looked down. Her ankle had twisted. She moved to the sidewalk and crouched down. She shouldn't have worn heels today. Well, this was embarrassing.
She pulled out her phone to text Anya to wait, because who knew she could walk that fast? Or maybe she conjured up some vines to pull her along.
She saw Anya rush back to her before she even typed out a text.
"How the hell do you walk–?"
Anya cut her off. She looked genuinely worried. "What happened?"
"Well, I kinda twisted my ankle trying to walk fast."
"You wore heels," Anya raised an eyebrow suspiciously. "You're already tall, you know."
And then without warning, she eased off the heel away from Kaynath's leg as Kaynath hissed in pain.
"I guess you're going to have swelling or something. Does it hurt a lot? Do we need to go to a doctor?"
"Uh, I don't think anything's broken enough for that? I'm sure I would know if it were..." she trailed off, wondering why Anya still hadn't let go of her leg.
"So. Looks like we won't be meeting at my special spot I wanted to show you," as Anya properly sat down, cross legged and opened her phone, typing away, one hand absent mindedly trailing circles on the soles of her foot.
Putting her phone away, she waved her hand as flowers appeared. "Don't think this will help much, so I called an uber to my home as it's closer."
Kaynath didn't respond for some time. "We can go another time to the spot," she said quietly.
"What?"
Kaynath glared at her.
"Careful, if you're mean to me, I might just leave you here stranded."
"Please, I'm sure I could've booked an auto and gone in one myself."
"Alright, I'll take my leave then," Anya made a move to get up, but stopped before slowly easing Kaynath's foot off of her onto the pavement.
A car honked as Anya looked around. "That's your ride."
She folded her hands and turned around, as Kaynath scrambled. She caught Anya's wrist.
"So, you want me to stay?" Anya gloated, and Kaynath just knew she was smirking even though her back was turned.
Anya turned around and put an arm around her waist as Kaynath's arm wrapped around her shoulder.
"To be honest, I just needed the pin code for the uber as you have it," Kaynath laughed as Anya made a face and helped her in.
"I have half a mind to unlock this car and throw you out."

Anya picking a car wasn't something that Kaynath expected she would do. After all, autos were a little bit cheaper. But the AC combined with the plush cushions on the headrest made it easy to rest a little bit before they reached her home.
"Anya, what happened to your scooter?" her mom, Kaynath assumed, came out as she looked at both of them.
"Amma. My friend hurt her leg, so I called an uber. I'll go get it back soon, it's not that far."
Her mom looked at her as Anya supported Kaynath and then rushed to help as she glanced at the heels that were in her hand. "Sprain?"
"Yeah my ankle twisted."
"Alright, sit down," her mom said, as she sat her down on the cool granite verandah. I saw Anya pay the uber driver quickly as she hurried along while her mom returned with an ice pack.
"Are you sure we don't need to get you to the hospital?" her mother looked concerned.
"No, aunty, I am fine. Besides, I have a personal doctor at home...who can check me once I reach, if needed."
She had the same curly black hair as Anya did which was tied up in a bun, strands slipping out. She had an apron over her nighty, as she handed Kaynath the ice pack and she pressed it to my feet, wincing.
Anya disappeared before bringing her a glass of water. Kaynath was starting to wonder why the hell did she agree to arrive at her home when she could have been lying down on my bed.
"Hold the ice pack," as she waved her hands and vines appeared to shoot from somewhere Kaynath couldn't see and hoisted her up.
"I would carry you, but you're too tall and we can't have two injuries right now," walked forward as she manipulated the vines around her.
"Why are you carrying me like an object?" Kaynath huffed and crossed her arms.
"Oh, I didn't realise you wanted royal treatment, your highness," she scoffed but nevertheless produced a huge marigold which acted like a soft cushion. Kaynath was aghast as she carried her up the stairs.
"Watch your head," she muttered as Kaynath looked around and promptly bumped her head to the low rise ceiling as they climbed.
"Ow."
"Told you to watch it," she smiled as she opened her room.
"That was on purpose, wasn't it?"
She lowered her gently on her bed as she saw Kaynath holding her heels and her eyebrows shot up. "Why are you carrying your heels inside my house?"
Anya grabbed them from Kaynath and went downstairs to keep them outside as Kaynath scanned her room. She had expected Anya had lived inside a flower house, but not this. It was all dark green walls and several potted plants along her window sill. She had a bookshelf close to the tv stand and Kaynath wished to look around simply so she could poke fun in her choice of books.
Coming back up she settled on the bed. "Do you want to change your clothes? Aren't they uncomfortable?"
It definitely was. The material was starting to get scratchy and the sequins on the sleeves were starting to dig into Kaynath's skin.
She pulled out two pairs of two shirts and went to the bathroom to change. Kaynath saw her come out in the shortest shorts as her legs were exposed and Kaynath looked away.
"This one's pretty oversized," Anya handed a black tee to her as she rummaged through her cupboard for her shorts. "Right, so maybe my pants are probably too big for you..."
"It's fine, I don't mind not changing, besides, if I have to get off these things, I need to stand up again."
She pursed her lips. "Ah...you are right. "Well, change into this anyway, I'll go out for a minute."
"You could help me out of these pants," Kaynath called after her, just to see her get worked up.
"Shut up!" Anya slammed the door as her mom called from downstairs probably scolding her for not slamming doors.
Her tee was impossibly soft but also worn out, like it went through multiple washes and faded over time, making it that sort of comfortable which only came when one wore it for a long time.
Kaynath raised her hips and eased out of her churidhar pants, which she realized were so impractical. Midway through, she realized she got it off her right leg, which was alright, but struggled to get it off her other leg. Sighing, she changed into the tee that Anya had given her.
It was long enough that it reached midway to her thighs.
Anya hesitantly knocked and opened the door, her eyes shut. "Are you done?"
"Yeah," Kaynath nodded and waited for her to open her eyes. "Help me out of these horrible pants, please."
Anya nodded, getting to work, easing them off her leg, softly.
"Ow, ow, ow."
"Sorry, sorry," she hastily apologized, setting her leg down. "I got you some more ice. Meanwhile, we can watch something to distract you."
"You know, I could be sleeping in my bed in my clothes right now, I've never even worn pants that were this short..." Kaynath glanced over at Anya as she crouched down to insert her USB drive but then paused. Those stupid thighs. She looked so good in those shorts.
"We can pick what you like," Anya handed Kaynath the remote. She looked at her folders which were divided by language.
"That's good, because I'm sure you would have picked horror. Also why the fuck are your folders not divided by language and genre...insane."
"I am severely regretting bringing you home."
Kaynath looked at her as Anya looked up at her with long lashes, expecting her to pick a movie, no doubt. Cupping her cheek, Kaynath smiled lazily. "I could double those regrets, honey."
Anya's eyes widened as she swatted Kaynath's hand away. In the end, Kaynath picked a romance movie to which Anya laughed for ages, teasing her. Romance was the only thing which made Kaynath feel like everything was a film. It wasn't real. Least of all, breaking out into a dance in the middle of nowhere.
"They're probably going to kiss now," she gestured at the TV, and watched Anya slump against her.
Was she asleep?
"Anya?" she whispered as Anya muttered something and nuzzled closer to Kaynath's neck.
She felt her phone buzz and saw it was a text from Mirza and quickly angled her phone to snap a photo of sleeping Anya and her swollen leg to send to Mirza.
Your best friend's taking such good care of me.

Glossary:
Churidhar: a type of salwar pants where the pants are more fitting from the top itself, kinda like leggings but probably made of cotton/polyester materials which gather at the bottom.
A/N: Look at these two enemies not being enemies for a hot minute. This chapter was going to be Anya taking Kaynath somewhere but I guess I made Kaynath trip so the plot changed for this chapter xD
