Chapter Twenty-Six
I was frozen in place, standing in the hallway in front of Lisa's door.
Did I really just see what I think I saw? Or was that just some kind of hallucination from the tea I drank earlier?
I really hope it was the tea.
The door opening shocked me back to reality and Leo came stumbling out of the bedroom, thankfully with shorts on.
Lisa followed after him, her usually happy blue eyes wide and panicked.
"I-I can explain." She stammered when she saw me standing there, dumbfounded.
I silently walked into her room, and she trailed after me, closing the door behind us.
I almost sat on the bed, before remembering what was just going on in it, and chose to stand instead and wait for an explanation.
"When I left the bonfire it really was to go to sleep, but then Leo followed me and we started talking. It somehow slipped out that I really like Garrett and Leo had an idea that he thought would help Garrett notice me more." She rambled, pacing around the room nervously.
I stayed quiet and she continued, "He said if I fooled around with him he could brag about it to Garrett and that would make Garrett more attracted to me. I told him it wasn't a good idea since he's with Steph, but he said he's going to break up with her because they're always fighting. You have to believe that I wouldn't do anything with Leo if it was going to ruin his relationship with Steph."
I stared at Lisa, more dumbfounded than I was when I caught her with Leo. Why would either of them think that this was a good idea? Leo hasn't broken up with Steph yet, which means he just cheated on her, it doesn't matter that he's planning on breaking up with her.
"I wasn't thinking, I just really want Garrett to like me and then Leo kissed me and it felt so nice to be wanted by a guy. I just couldn't stop. I never meant for this to happen." She rambled some more, pleading with her eyes for me to forgive her.
I shook my head and backed up in disgust when she stepped towards me, "You should have said no, and then told Steph what happened. You should have pushed him away when he kissed you. How could you do that to our best friend?"
Tears welled up in her eyes at my words but I didn't care.
"Best friends don't hook up with each other's boyfriends. If that was Liam I would never forgive you. Steph will never forgive you." I spat, and then turned around to leave. I've said all I needed to say, now I have to figure out how to tell Steph.
"I'm sorry!" She cried after me.
I swung the door open without a word, and slammed it behind me once I was in the hallway. Lisa and Leo just ruined the vacation on the first day. I'm pissed.
I was barely any calmer when I made it back to the bonfire, but I managed to compose myself enough to conceal my anger. Before I tell Steph what I saw tonight, I want to get Liam's opinion on everything.
"Our saviour has returned! Now we will have a delicious sugary snack to feast on!" Steph cheered when she noticed me.
I froze mid-step.
I didn't get the marshmallows. I completely forgot why I even went back to the beach house once I caught Lisa and Leo.
"Actually I couldn't find them, but it's getting late and we shouldn't be eating sugar right now anyway." I quickly lied, avoiding Steph's stare as I sat down beside Liam.
"You're right, I have to watch what I eat since I'm going to be spending this week in a bikini." Steph replied, not sounding the slightest bit disappointed.
"So how about we have a sleepover in my room tonight." I suggested to Steph, changing the subject.
There's three bedrooms in the beach house, and the sleeping arrangements were for Leo and Garrett to share a room, Steph and Lisa to share another, and the last room was for Liam and I. But I wasn't going to have Steph share a room with Lisa after what I just saw, and I sure as hell wasn't going to let her sleep in the bed her boyfriend cheated on her in.
"Sure, sounds like fun." Steph easily agreed.
I gave her the best smile I could muster up, and thankfully it was dark enough outside that she couldn't see how fake it was.
Unfortunately, Liam saw right through me.
"Let's take a walk." He suggested, standing up and offering his hand to help me up.
I gratefully took his hand and didn't let go after I was up from the log.
"What's wrong?" He asked when we were out of ear shot from Garrett and Steph.
"I walked in on Lisa and Leo hooking up." I admitted, feeling the slightest weight lift from my shoulders. It felt good to tell someone, now it's not just on me to figure out how to tell Steph, or if I even should.
"Damn, why would they do that?" He asked.
I sighed and explained everything Lisa told me, and by the time I was done talking Liam was tense and obviously angry.
"Leo is a pice of work, a spoiled rich kid that always gets what he wants. Maybe a couple punches in the face will set him straight." Liam spat.
I put my hand on his chest in an effort to calm him down, "That won't solve anything. I think we should sleep on it and decide what to do tomorrow. Steph is staying in our room tonight because I don't want her anywhere near Lisa, maybe I can prepare her before I actually tell her what happened."
He nodded in agreement and I felt his body relax against my hand.
"Let's go back, it's getting pretty late." I suggested, and he nodded again.
The walk back to the bonfire was short but loaded with what ifs.
What if I tell Steph and she's completely heartbroken? It would ruin the whole trip, and I'd feel terrible for her. Lisa, Steph, and I would never be the same again, our friendship would change forever. I don't want that. Lisa made one mistake, and Leo is going to break up with Steph anyway, is it really my place to tell Steph what I saw?
But what if I don't tell her? She could find out and hate me for not telling her. Then I'd lose her, and I'll always be cautious around Lisa because she slept with her best friend's boyfriend. Liam could he next. I could lose both of my best friends.
This whole situation is a complete mess.
If Liam was the one that cheated on me, and Steph caught it, would I want her to tell me? I just don't know.
"We should get set up in your room." Steph suggested when Liam and I returned to the fire, breaking me out of my thoughts.
I nodded in agreement and turned to Liam.
"Goodnight." I said, going on my tippy toes to give him a kiss.
I went to pull away a second later but he snaked his hands around my waist and pressed harder against my lips to prolong the kiss.
All my problems disappeared as I kissed Liam. I couldn't even feel my feet under me, I was on cloud nine and I didn't want to come down.
But seconds later reality came crashing down on me when he pulled out of the kiss and rested his forehead against mine.
"I'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning for our next coffee shop visit." He whispered.
"Bright and early." I confirmed, and then joined Steph on her walk back to the beach house as Garrett and Liam trailed behind us.
"If you caught Liam cheating on me, would you tell me?" I asked Steph once we were inside and on our way up to my room.
Her eyebrows raised in confusion, "Where is this coming from? Do you think Liam's cheating on you?"
I shook my head, "No, I'm just wondering."
"Okay then, I'd tell you if I caught Liam cheating on you. You deserve to know." She finally answered.
She deserves to know that Leo cheated on her.
"You're a good friend." I told her, my voice full with sincerity. She deserves better friends, and a better boyfriend.
I have to tell her about Lisa and Leo.
Tomorrow.

Deep breaths Emma, you can do this.
You have to do this.
As I sat on my bed, waiting for Steph to meet me up here in five minutes, I tried to calm myself down.
Steph is one of my best friends and she deserves to know that her boyfriend cheated on her. Who knows, maybe this isn't even the first time he's cheated on her. He could've hooked up with anyone from our school and I would never know.
It's the right thing to tell Steph.
A knock at my door brought me back to reality and I hesitantly answered "Come in."
Am I ready to break Steph's heart? Absolutely not, but I'm out of time now.
Instead of Steph walking through the door like I thought, Leo entered the room.
"What are you doing here?" I demanded, my nerves being replaced by anger immediately.
"Please don't tell Steph what you saw. I'm going to break up with her today, she never has to know." He begged, his eyes pleading with me to do as he asked.
I shook my head, "She deserves to know, there's nothing you can do to stop me from telling her."
"Telling who what?" A new voice asked from behind Leo.
We both froze when we realized that Steph was right there. At least she didn't hear the whole conversation, that would've been horrible.
"You should leave." I told Leo, and he nodded and left without a word, leaving me with a very confused Stephanie.
"What's going on?" She asked, cautiously walking over and sitting down beside me. I'm sure she could sense that something bad was happening.
"Leo cheated on you with Lisa last night and I caught them, I just thought you should know because you're my best friend and it felt wrong not telling you but now you're going to be sad and that sucks. I'm so sorry." I rambled, my words coming out so quickly and jumbled that I thought Steph might not have understood me.
But then her bottom lip quivered and tears welled up in her eyes.
My heart ached for her as I pulled her into a hug and she began to sob. I just broke my best friend's heart. I'm not the one that did anything wrong, but I was the one to tell her what happened. If I didn't say anything, she'd be happy right now.
This vacation was about to get a lot less fun.
"I have to talk to them, and break up with Leo." She cried into my shoulder.
I nodded in agreement, she needs to hear everything from them herself.
After about ten more minutes of crying it out, Steph was finally composed and went off to find Lisa and Leo, while I went downstairs to find Liam for our coffee shop date.
"Hey, I told her." I said when I found him sitting on the couch watching t.v.
He turned to face me, "I think you need a cup of tea."
I nodded in agreement and then we were on our way to my new favourite place.
