Chapter Five
*Erik's POV*
"What is the song you are to sing to the king," I ask Christine as I stand up.
"I don't know the name," she says as she walks over and picks up two sheets of paper. "Oh, it called 'Think of Me'".
"May I see those sheets," I ask as I walk closer to her.
"Sure," she says as she hands me the sheets.
I gently take the papers from her and look over them. The papers are actually pages of sheet music with all the notes written down. Then remembering the piano that I always played years ago, I turn and walk over to it. I hear Christine's soft footsteps behind as I continue walking to the piano.
Once at the piano, I pull the bench out and sit before I place the music sheets on the piano. I look over at Christine who is standing next to the piano facing me with a nervous expression.
"Just breathe," I say. "I want to see what we need to work on so you can master this song."
She smiles a little and takes a deep breath. "Okay," she says. "I'm ready."
I nod and look at the sheets of music. I place my fingers on the keys and start to play the music. I see Christine take another deep breath before beginning to sing. "Think of me," she begins to sing with a slightly trembling voice. "Think of me fondly. When we say goodbye."
I stop playing and she instantly looks down at the floor with a look of shame. I stand up and walk closer to her. "You have an amazing voice," I say. "You just look nervous. You need to relax, especially your shoulders." I walk behind her and gently press her shoulders down.
*Christine's POV*
I hear the piano music stop and instantly know I messed up. Not wanting to see his face, I look down at the floor. I hear the sound of the piano bench moving as I hear Erik stand. He's giving up on me; I should have known.
"You have an amazing voice," I hear him. What? He thinks my voice is amazing. "You just look nervous," he continues. "You need to relax especially your shoulders."
I open my mouth to ask how, when I suddenly feel his cool, thin hands on my shoulders. I take a sharp breath as I feel his hands gently push my shoulders down. His touch makes my heart skip a beat and I feel a little sad when he takes his hands off my shoulders, but I don't show it.
I watch him walk back over to the piano and now I'm determined to impress him. "You ready to try again," he asks me.
I nod my head and he starts to play. I feel more confident and sing the whole song with only a few small mess ups. When the song is finished, Erik looks at with an impressed expression. "That was much better," he says as he stands. "Now all we need to do is work on the few mess ups you had."
I smile as he walks over to me. We then work on the few problems I have and before long I perfect the mistakes I had. We then re-sing the song, which O easily perfect.
"That was perfect," Erik says once the song is done.
I feel myself beginning to blush a little. "Thank you," I say with a small smile. "It wouldn't have been perfect if I didn't have you to help me."
I see Erik smile a little. "It was my pleasure," he says. "You should get some sleep. You have a big day tomorrow."
The second after he says that, I realize how tired I am. "Yeah, you're right," I say. "I don't know where to sleep though."
"There's a bedroom down that hall to the left," Erik says, pointing to the hallway to my right.
"Thank you," I say, but then realize something. "How do you know that?"
"I looked around here before you came," he says.
"Oh," I say. "Well goodnight, Erik." I turn to go, but I want to do something. I walk to Erik and give him a hug.
I feel his body stiffen as I hug him, but he eventually puts his arms around me. "Thank you for the lessons," I say as I pull away.
I see Erik seem to regain his composure before smiling a little. "Like I said earlier, it was my pleasure."
"Goodnight, Erik," I say one final time before heading towards the hall. As I walk down the hall, I begin to think of Erik. He's a nice guy, has an amazing musical talent, and is handsome......Christine! Stop it; you just met him today! But he's not like the other guys I know.
I see a door to my left and open it. Just as Erik said, it was a bedroom. I see a dresser in the corner and head towards it. Opening it, I see about one or two dresses and a nightgown hanging in it. Hoping it's my size, I take the nightgown and put it on; the dress is slightly too big, but it will have to be good enough.
Once dressed, I head toward the bed and climb in it. As I drift off to sleep, I begin to think about Erik and the how tomorrow will go.
*Erik's POV*
Once Christine is out of sight, I breath a sigh of relief. I almost told her that used to live here. She can't know that I used to live here. I need to find out why this is the king's property know and where my mother is. I hope wherever my mother is, she's safe and happy. She deserves that for everything she's done for me. My thoughts then drift to Christine.
Christine. Her voice is like an angel's and now her voice can truly make the angels weep. She's also very beautiful. Erik! You don't have a chance with her. If she saw your face......
I close my eyes, remembering the first time I saw my face. No! I can't think of that right now! I have to stay focused and make sure Christine impresses the king.
I walk over to the chair, knowing that I won't be sleeping tonight. I sit in the chair and begin to plan out how I will find my mother and, possibly, become good friends with Christine.
