Shadows of Xandar

Gamora POV

After a way too long flight we finally arrived to Xandar. I was quite happy, to be honest, my brains wouldn't been able to last much longer. Sometimes it just gets really annoying to be the only female member in a group. Especially with these guys.

I quietly sighed as I stretched and stood up from the pilot's chair. I stifled a yawn while I walked toward the door. I could really use some fresh air right now.

"I am Groot?"

Oh, Groot was still awake.

"Hey Groot! I didn't realize you were awake too!" I flashed him my best fake smile. I really wasn't in the mood right now to talk to any of the guys, but he's probably the nicest person I know so at least I can try to be nice to him.

"I am Groot."

Oh, just great. I still hadn't learned how to understand him so I just tried to think anything he might say. Was he tired? Did he just say hello? Maybe he was hungry? Does he even eat? I'm not sure...

A loud snoring filled the air and we both glanced at Peter. Seriously? I knew humans can be loud but... That can't be healthy. Groot shook his head and looked at me expectantly.

"What?" I asked him, furrowing my eyebrows.

"I am Groot." He said back. He motioned with his hands to Peter and did a shaking motion as if he was shaking an invisible person by shoulders... No.

"Groot I'm not waking him up." Last time I had to wake him up he just started acting like a child. He even whined about not going to school or something like that.

"Groot you can wake them all up. I'm going to get some fresh air. Meet me at the Nova Corps." With that I went out the door into the fresh, cool air. Cool? That's not really what Xandar's usually like. I looked around and didn't see anything unusual. Then I looked up, and realized why it was so chilly; the sky was covered by weird shadowy figures. Maybe that's also why the message we got had so bad quality.

"What are those?" I heard rest of the Guardians walk towards the place where I was standing. Peter was currently gaping at the sight over us. I caught Groot staring at me. He didn't look too happy. I just smiled sheepishly to him and entered the Nova Corps' base.

Inside the building it looked like a mess. There were people running in every direction and there were alarms blaring everywhere. Luckily we didn't have to dodge all the people because as soon as they saw us, they moved away, leaving us a nice clean path. We were all quiet as we walked up the stairs to the meeting room. And yes, surprisingly even Peter decided to shut his mouth.

The meeting room was a bit more peaceful than the rest of the building.

"Good! You came!" Nova Prime sighed and motioned us to sit around the large table. She walked to the front of the room before she started speaking.
"As you may have already seen, there are some weird creatures out there. We don't know yet why they are here but we are quite sure they are after the infinity stone."

Worried glances were shared across the table before she continued.
"We know they are up to no good. They have already started blocking out all the signals we're trying to send to our people outside Xandar and couple of minutes ago they destroyed one of our ships. We need a way to send them back where they came from."

Silence fell as everyone was thinking ways to stop them and then started to shout their own ideas.

"Our normal weapons won't work, they're nothing like we've ever seen before."

"Maybe it's dark magic?"

"No, that's just stupid!"

"We could just blow them up!"

"Really? Who would clean up all the mess?"

Finally, Rocket stood up and walked to the centre of the table and yelled everyone to quiet down. One by one, all of us calmed down and stared at him expectantly.

"I have a plan," He smirked, "but I'll need a couple of things."
